Dear Soon-To-Be Sixth Grade Families,Middle School is a wonderful time and we hope that your 5th grade year was full ofwonder, excitement and enrichment! Your last year at the “Hollow” will undoubtedly be full ofnew experiences and it is a time for students to become increasingly independent, to grow, and most of all to learn more! Your 6th grade teachers would like to start the new school yearby getting to know you better so we are asking you to compare yourself to a character in yoursummer reading book. Many times we read a book and feel that the main characters are very much like we are- they may act the same way, do similar things, or have the same feelings as you. If the readeradmires the characters, the reader may want to act like the characters or may imagine livinghis/her life in a similar. On the other hand, sometimes we may feel as if the main charactersare very different from us. If this is the case, we may feel that the main characters are acting ina way that we could never act, and we may even disapprove of their choices.ASSIGNMENT: Use the main character(s) in your summer reading book to introduceyourself to your teachers and fellow classmates. You will do this by comparing yourself to thecharacter(s) in the book. This a short writing piece using examples from the book and fromyour own life to compare/contrast yourself to a main character in the book, showing how youare alike or different.Due date: Tuesday, September 8. Please remember to proofread and type theassignment (or write neatly), as this is the first piece of work that your Language Arts teacherwill see.Happy Reading,The Sixth Grade Language Arts Teachers at Lounsberry Hollow Middle SchoolQuestions over the summer? - email our literacy coach Mrs. Rostami: jrostami@vtsd.comCome to our Summer Reading Book Club on August 19 9:30-11:30am at LHMS to talk aboutyour book with Lounsberry teachers and your future classmates!Visit the LHMS Media Resource Center website for details about the Summer ReadingAssignment, a list of more books to enjoy, and our Summer Reading Book Club meeting(http://www.LHMRC.com)
