MARQUETTE ASSEMBLY #1197SEPTEMBER 2019FN Chuck Burg: 920-822-8482FC Bob Reich: 920-469-0859Faithful Friar: Father Daniel SchusterCulture is defined as the living and active values, attitudes, beliefs, andpractices that are specific to a group of people. Each community we come from has a uniqueculture. The east side of Green Bay is different from the Luxemburg area which is different fromDenmark. When you travel to other cities or spend time at other parishes, you get a sense thatyou have entered into a different culture. Local culture can foster important and life-givingqualities within a specific community, and it can also reinforce bad habits, prejudices, andsin. Think for a moment about all of the competing cultures that enter your life: Americanculture, anti-religious culture, Christian culture, sports culture, and the Knights of Columbusculture. Please add to that list the culture of the Green Bay Diocese. Our Bishop knows that wecannot instantly defeat the negative elements of our culture of death, but that we can impact itand overcome it by introducing a new culture. “My grace is sufficient for you,” said Jesus (2Cor 12:9). We call our movement Catholic Culture. As believers, we are agents of this lifegiving and life-saving culture. I want to share with you (again) the vision and mission of theGreen Bay Diocese so that you can be influenced by the culture of the greater Church.Vision: We are missionary disciples striving to lead all people to the Kingdom of God.Mission: As friends and followers of Jesus, we are devoted to fostering households andcommunities of discipleship through the mission and ministry of the Catholic Church.Communities of Discipleship: Discover Jesus, Follow Jesus, Worship Jesus, Share Jesus withothers.

How does our Knights of Columbus culture help influence the world? People hear the way wetalk, they see rosary we carry, they encounter the way we refrain from swearing and honor theHoly Name. People should know that we are not afraid to stand up for our country, for themarginalized, and for Christ. Take a moment to think specifically about the Knights’ culture, and the culture of our Diocese as shown above, and in our hearts, let’s make any adjustments sothat we are aligned together for the greater glory of GodFather Daniel Schuster, Faithful FriarCALENDAR OF EVENTSTuesday, Sep 10, 2019 Business Meeting at Wertel’s Tap2545 Manitowoc Road, Green Bay WI 54311. However, it will be nice to socialize among us, especiallysince it has been several months since our last gathering. Please, before youforget, call with your reservation and do one better, bring along another SirKnight.Next is the Exemplification that will take place on Oct. 5th in Kenosha Wi. This iscoming up quick and we need to bring this up at our individual Council meetingsin hopes that we will have a few candidates to join our Assembly. I am sure wewill have the forms and directions at our meeting or call me. Let us all promotethe Patriotic Degree.

I do have a story that I want to share with you. Last Tuesday, I received a textmessage on my phone from a priest who I heard of but never met. His completename was spelled out and he referred to me as Chuck and asked for a kindgesture. I was driving so I pulled over to text him back. Now I know he is aPastor at a parish near my parish, but not knowing him I did think it rather odd. But, the thought of charity first and a call from a priest. I must see what I coulddo. So, within six minutes of his text to me I sent back my answer, Father howmay I help you. He explained to me that he wants to help a family going throughcancer in a hospital but can’t do that now because he is currently out of his office. Then he asked if I would go to Walmart and buy a steam card. Of course, he wasgiving me all kinds of blessings in his request and explain he would pay me back. This is when I took the time to check out the phone number and found that thenumber was not registered under a name and out of this area. That evening wasmy Council meeting and I showed the whole text message to our Friar Fr. Tony.He checked the number out and notified the priest, whose name was used in thatfalse request for money. Incidentally, a steam card is a form of a gift card, I hadto look that up too. And, the phone number used, is now marked unsafe. I guess Ijust wanted to share this story with you, be cautious.God Bless you and your families.
