FOR YOUR te:FYI10/30/17FOR DCFS-SERVED YOUTH:Know Your Rights For Sexual Health Services,Sexual Health Services Available At The Medical Hub Clinics AndReproductive Health Resources For YouthSenate Bill 528 added new language to W&IC section 16001.9(a), effective January 1, 2014, to clarifyspecific rights of all non-minors and minors in foster care. Paragraph 27 of subdivision (a) was added,which states that all minors and non-minors in foster care shall have the right: “To have access toage-appropriate, medically accurate information about reproductive health care, the prevention ofunplanned pregnancy, and the prevention and treatment of sexually transmitted infections at 12 yearsof age or older.”The attached informational material has been created to increase awareness and understanding ofthe right of DCFS youth in foster care to have access to medically accurate sexual and reproductivehealth information, and of their right to obtain care for the prevention and treatment of pregnancy atany age. Additionally, at 12 years of age or older, foster youth have the right to obtain testing for andtreatment of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs).The information provided is for both youth in foster care and their out-of-home caregivers on thesexual health services available at the Medical Hub Clinics as well as a list of reproductive healthresources for youth.The attached informational material is now included in the placement and replacement packets fordistribution to youth and caregivers.
