MARK3rd Sunday of EasterHappy Easter! It gives megreat joy to see more andmore of my parishioners areable to come “home” again inGod’s house! We are a family, and our older brother loves usand invites us to his Father’shouse! He is the crucified God-Man who “once was dead butnow he lives forever and ever.” (Rev. 1:18). What do wehave to fear? We come withsmiling faces to celebrate joyfully all of our Sunday Masses:either inside the church or the10:30 AM Mass which is celebrated outdoors among thespring blossoms, butterflies, birds, and sunbeams! We are also beginning to gather again for adult education opportunities.Fr. Joe will teach us on Wednesday evenings about the spiritual writings ofa famous Italian mystic, Servant of God Luisa Piccarreta (1859-1947).Fr. Matthew will continue leading our Men’s group on Saturday mornings. Iwill teach a Bible Study class about the Gospel of Mark on Monday evenings. In today’s Gospel we hear about how the Risen Jesus himself conducted“Bible Studies” when he appeared to his disciples after his Resurrection. When he appeared he explained that the Old Testament prophesies wereperfectly fulfilled by his death and Resurrection: “The two disciples recounted what had taken place on the way. he opened their minds to understandthe Scriptures. and he said, “These are my words that I spoke to you whileI was still with you, that everything written about me in the law of Mosesand in the prophets and psalms must be fulfilled. Thus, it is written that theChrist would suffer and rise from the dead on the third day and that repentance, for the forgiveness of sins.”How wonderful it would have been to have been a fly on the wall in order tolisten to Jesus’ Bible lessons! But the next best thing will be to attend ouradult education lessons here at the Church of the Presentation of theBlessed Virgin Mary!-Father Mark

PRAYER AND WORSHIP4CHURCH OF THE PRESENTATION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY STOCKTON, CASaint of the WeekSAINT FIDELIS OF SIGMARINGENDATES: 1577-1622 FEAST DAY: APRIL 24Born in Sigmaringen (Germany), Mark Roy studied philosophy and law at the Universityof Freiburg in Breisgau. After tutoring young aristocrats and traveling Europe with them,he began practicing law in Alsace, where he quickly became “the poor person’s lawyer.”But, disillusioned over other lawyers’ behavior, he gave up the law to follow a vocation inreligious life. As an ordained Capuchin named Fidelis, he was renowned for his holiness, preaching and leadership. He was superior at several houses before being invited toeastern Switzerland to call Protestants back to Catholicism. This mission, complicated bythe politics of the time and hatred of the Catholic Habsburgs, became increasinglydangerous and led to his murder by opponents. He was canonized in 1746.Copyright 2021, United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, Washington, DC. Whensomeone possesses the power to bring peace, it brings us to a place of safetyand fills us with joy. The resurrected Christ has this power. God can openour minds so that we can more fully understand the meaning of SacredScripture and God’s compassionate, loving, tender, and untiring embraceconstantly present and offered to people throughout history. Without theanchor of truth that only God can provide, we can easily become startled andterrified at the sight of what life brings us. Being open to God’s offer ofpeace, we can turn away from old habits and short-sighted vision andexperience the gladness and joy of God’s gift. Only then can what iswounded and broken be mended and reconciliation achieved. We are theresurrection witnesses called to proclaim the Good News. LPi

PRAYER AND WORSHIP6CHURCH OF THE PRESENTATION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY STOCKTON, CAStewardship Reflections / Reflexiones de Corresponsabilidad“You are witnesses of these things.” - Luke 24:48“Ustedes son testigos de esto”. - Lucas 24, 48Our Gospel reminds us that we are called toevangelize. The disciples in Jesus’ time were witnessesof His life, death, and resurrection. We were notphysically at Calvary, but we are witnesses of the truthof our faith and the effects that Christ has on our lives. We are called to share the goodness and love He poursout on us to all those we meet. Very simply, we arecalled to be evangelists by the way we live our lives. Reflect and RespondThink about the Sunday readings then reflect and respond accordingyour faith.First Reading:In publicly bearing witness to Jesus’ resurrection, Peter urged thepeople to repent of their sin of ignorance and their denial of Jesus. How does Jesus’ resurrection from the dead inspire you to repentance?Second Reading:John teaches his community that the key to avoiding sin is to followJesus’ commandments. What do you find challenging in this seemingly simple and clear instruction?Gospel:Luke tells us that the resurrected Jesus opened the minds of the disciples “to understand the Scriptures” and see how his suffering, death, and resurrection was connected to repentance and forgiveness of sins. What tools do you use to better understand ourfaith? LPi
