2015–2016Fee WaiversFOR THE SAT AND THESAT SUBJECT TESTS GUIDELINES FOR STUDENTS AND FAMILIESThe College Board offers a comprehensive set of services toassist students for whom payment of fees for the SAT andSAT Subject Tests may be a barrier to testing and applyingto college. You can use this guide to learn more about:– What’s available through the SAT Fee-Waiver Service– Who is eligible– How to obtain a fee waiver and other resources– The next steps on your road to collegeLearn more at sat.org/fee-waivers.

Fee-Waiver EligibilityIf you are a high school student who lives in the United Statesor its territories, or who is a U.S. citizen residing outside theU.S., you may be able to receive fee waivers. To be eligible,you must meet at least one of the criteria below:– You are enrolled in or eligible to participate in the federalNational School Lunch Program (NSLP).– Your annual family income falls within the IncomeEligibility Guidelines set by the USDA Food and NutritionService (provided below).– You are enrolled in a federal, state, or local program thataids students from low-income families (e.g., Federal TRIOprograms such as Upward Bound).– Your family receives public assistance.– You live in federally subsidized public housing, a fosterhome, or are homeless.– You are a ward of the state or an orphan.USDA Food and NutritionService Income EligibilityGuidelines for 2015-16NUMBER OF MEMBERSIN HOUSEHOLDTOTAL ANNUALINCOME(including head of household)1(in preceding calendar year)2123456 21,775 29,471 37,167 44,863 52,559 60,2551. The household size should be the number of householdmembers plus the filer on the family’s current taxstatement. A student who is in foster care is considereda household size of one person.2. Income levels are based on the USDA Food and NutritionService Income Eligibility Guidelines for reducedprice meals used by schools, institutions, and facilitiesparticipating in the National School Lunch Program(NSLP). To see the complete table of guidelines, go towww.fns.usda.gov/slp and select Income Eligibility.More than six members in the household?To determine income levels for families with more thansix household members, take the annual allowance forsix members, 60,255, and add 7,696 for each additionalmember.

How to Get a Fee WaiverSee your school counselor or agency official to obtain awaiver. If you are a home-schooled student, you will needto provide proof of eligibility (tax records, public assistancerecords, or record of enrollment in an aid program) to a highschool counselor in your area.Once your counselor determines that you are eligible, youcan receive up to four fee-waiver cards. You are eligible fortwo SAT registrations and two SAT Subject Test registrations(for example, you can’t use three fee waivers for the SAT andone for SAT Subject Tests).Fee Waivers for TestingFees and MoreFee waivers cover more than just the testing fees. Whenyou register for the SAT or SAT Subject Tests, the fee waiverwill cover:– The registration fee for the SAT or SAT Subject Tests (thefee covers the costs of up to three individual SAT SubjectTests taken on a single test day). You can use a fee waiverfor SAT Subject Tests anytime in high school. You need tobe in the 11th or 12th grade to use a fee waiver for the SAT.– Four additional score reports, which you can order atno charge at any time after registering for the test(s),including after you have seen your scores. You are entitledto a total of four such reports regardless of how many feewaivers you use.– Question-and-Answer Service (QAS) or Student AnswerService (SAS) if ordered at the time of registration. Thesetwo services provide more information about the typesof test questions and how you answered them. (QAS andSAS aren’t available for SAT Subject Tests.)– Up to four College Application Fee Waivers (see theinformation later in this pamphlet).– Coverage of the Non-U.S. Regional Fee for studentstesting internationally.Paying for CollegeThe College Board offers financial aid information and anapplication service called CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE .Find out more at profileonline.collegeboard.org.

Using Fee WaiversYou can use a fee waiver to register for either the SAT or theSAT Subject Tests. Talk to your counselor about registeringfor these tests and verifying that you qualify for a fee waiver.If you qualify for a fee waiver, you’ll get a card with a uniquefee-waiver code to use for registration. Make sure to registerby the deadline.Online RegistrationYou can use a fee waiver when registering online for the testsat sat.org/register. You will be asked to enter the followinginformation from your card: the 12-digit fee-waiver code, yourcounselor’s name, and the eligibility criteria you meet. You canuse each fee-waiver code only once.Paper RegistrationTo register by mail, complete all required fields on both thefee-waiver card and the registration form. Incomplete cardsor forms will be mailed back to you unprocessed. On theregistration form, make sure you indicate your name exactlyas it appears on your acceptable photo ID, your sex, date ofbirth, high school information, and grade level, in additionto the date and type of test you’re taking and test centerinformation. Mail your completed registration form and cardby the deadline (or, if testing at an international location,in time to be received by the deadline).Important Registration Notes– You will be asked to provide a photo at registration.Any registrations will be rejected if submitted withouta photo (unless exempt from the requirement). Seesat.org/test-day and the Student Registration Guide formore information.– Fee-waiver codes are good for only one registration.If you register with a fee waiver and miss the test day, youcannot reregister with the same fee-waiver code. You can,however, pay a fee to change your registration (changefees are not covered by fee waivers). To do this, go onlineor call Customer Service and transfer your registration toanother test date.– Fee waivers may not be used for Waitlist requests.– Fee waivers can be used during the late registration periodif you are testing in the United States or U.S. territories.Refer to the fee-waiver card for deadlines if you areregistering online. See the back of the Student RegistrationGuide for deadlines that apply to mailed or internationalregistrations.Test DayFor a list of everything you need to bring with you on test day,check your Admission Ticket and review the requirements atsat.org/test-day.
