IMPORTANTINFORMATIONGENERAL ADMISSIONS INFORMATIONFor all institutionsFor College Application Month (CAM) in October, all institutional admissions onlineapplications will be available for the 2020-2021 school year.FAFSA Opens:October 1, 2019Priority ScholarshipDeadline: December 1, 2019for UNLV— completing theapplication and FAFSA bythis date give a studentpriority for scholarships. Allothers are January 1st orlater.Nevada Promise Scholarship Application Deadline: October 31, 2019Third Party Fee Waivers:Only accepted at UNLV. Theother institutions, includingUNLV may have their own feewaiver process. Check withthe college representative.Verification: Additionaldocuments may be neededafter filling out the FAFSA forverification purposes. If thisis applicable to a student, theinstitutions will let themknow what forms/documentswill be needed. It helps if thestudent is proactive and staysin contact with the financialaid office and checks his/herstudent account/emailregularly.Sometimes an institution will require an account be set up on their application portal before astudent can submit an application. It is recommended that students set up accounts withthese institutions prior to the CAM event(s). They may need access to their email accountsfor verification purposes and this is not always possible in the high school setting. At thistime, UNLV, UNR, NSC, CSN, and TMCC require this account set up.Students should know their driver’s license number, if applicable.Knowing ACT/SAT scores is helpful. They will also be required to have official scores sent tothe college(s) of their choice. An in-progress high school transcript can be sent in with theapplication, although a final high school transcript will be needed at the end of senior year.Immunization records may be required for admissions at some institutions but should not beneeded at CAM/FAFSA events. It is helpful if students know the program/major they are interested in pursuing but it is okayif they are really undecided. In addition to the general admissions requirements, certain limited entry programs may haveadditional selective admissions criteria. See the institutional catalogs for more information.Student that do not meet the admissions requirements as listed in the various AdmissionsRequirements sections, may be admitted through other criteria such as: a combination of testscores and grade point average that indicate potential for success, special talents and/or abilities such as but not limited to the visual or performing arts or athletic ability, other evidenceof potential for success, improvement in high school record, overcoming adversity or specialhardship, or other special circumstances. The limit of students admitted through this criteriais 15% of the previous year’s admissions. Contact the Admissions Office for more information.GENERAL FINANCIAL AID INFORMATIONFor all institutionsFor the 2020-2021 school year, students will need income information for themselvesand their parents from 2018. If the parents are divorced, they should use the parentthat provided at least 51% of their support, not necessarily the parent that claims themon the tax return. The student and one parent should create an FSA ID and password, since both areneeded to sign and submit the FAFSA electronically: https://fsaid.ed.gov/ . If studentshave this set up prior to the CAM event, they should bring their FSA ID/Password withthem. Once all of a student’s information is entered into the FAFSA, the data can besaved and a parent can sign electronically when it is convenient.Information needed: Student’s social security number—it is important that this beentered correctly. Income/tax returns for 2018. Other forms, if applicable: Student andparent Federal Tax Returns/foreign tax returns, W-2 forms from all jobs, 1099 forms,Child Support Documents (paid or received), Food Stamp Award Letter, Untaxed Pensions/Retirement Plans, value of any checking, savings, investment accounts as well asreal estate or business values (not including the home in which the student lives.)Work Study: If interested, students need to check the box correctly in Section One ofthe FAFSA. If the box is not checked, the institution may not offer Work Study to thestudent.2Students should check their email and their institutional account, ifapplicable, for additional required documents.
