The Modular Amphibious Egress Trainer (MAET) uses a genericfuselage section representing rotary aircraft, amphibious, cockpits and cabinemergency escape exits. The MAET trainer acts as a ‘dunker,’ which functionsclosely to the general characteristics of a ‘ditched’ aircraft. During a trainingexercise, the MAET is lowered into a pool, and turned up to a 180 degreerotation on its longitudinal axis. MAET lifting systems (hoists and gantries)provide, at a minimum, a two-speed rate of descent retract. Students are ableto practice under-water egress from the MAET in an upright position (zerodegree rotation), an inverted position (180 degree rotation), or in any positionin between zero and 180 degrees. Current systems are able to simulate CH46, CH-53 and MV-22 configurations and are adaptable to future platforms. The Submerged Vehicle Egress Trainer (SVET) has the same modular coreand rotational capabilities as the MAET, but dedicated for ground vehiclesimulation. It is equipped with modules for the High Mobility Multi-PurposeWheeled Vehicle (HMMWV) and a generic amphibious track platform. TheShallow Water Egress Training (SWET) is an individual seat-type device usedprior to and in conjunction with MAET and SVET to introduce water submersionand the proper use of current Supplemental Emergency Breathing Devices(SEBD) such as the Intermediate Passenger Helicopter Aircrew BreathingDevice (IPHABD) and Survival Egress Air (SEA).161717
