STUDENT RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIESSTUDENT RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe Board of Trustees has approved a Student Conduct Policy and these guidelines are intended to providestudents, faculty, and administrative personnel with a comprehensive set of procedures associated with studentrights and responsibilities at Community College of Beaver County.Please understand that the information that follows is intended to be used as a source of information. Pleaserefer to the College’s website for current policies and procedures.Students, whether in day or evening classes, part-time or full-time, credit or non-credit, are responsible to befamiliar with the rules and regulations of the College pertaining to academic affairs, social conduct, andstudent activities which are stated in the handbook or in the College Catalog. Each student is responsible forconforming to these rules and regulations.The primary right of students is to pursue their education as long as they maintain their eligibility to remaina member of the College by meeting its academic standards, and as long as they observe the regulations andpolicies of the College.As a member of the student body, each student has all the privileges of College services and facilities. Collegeproperty is defined as any property associated with instruction, including but not limited to buildings, parkinglots, sidewalks and driveways.STUDENT CONDUCTAdmission to Community College of Beaver County carries with it obligations in regard to personal conductboth on and off campus. Students are requested to conduct themselves as responsible adults at all times.Student members of the College are those who are registered or enrolled in any credit or non-credit course orprogram offered by the College.Any individual student or group of students who fail to observe either the general standards of conduct or anyspecific ruling adopted by the College or who act in a manner not in the best interest of other students of theCollege shall be subject to disciplinary action.The following conduct may result in disciplinary action; however, the listing of causes for disciplinary action isnot intended to be, or should not be, considered restrictive or a waiver of any other act not listed or specificallymentioned herein:1. Possession, use, sale, or distribution of narcotics or other controlled substances2. Public intoxication; use, possession, sale, or distribution of alcoholic beverages3. Gambling on College premises4. Smoking on College property5. Possession of any knife, cutting instrument, cutting tool, nun chuck stick, firearm, shotgun, rifle,10

STUDENT RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIESexplosives, incendiary devices, and any other tool, instrument, or implement capable of inflictingserious bodily harm on College property. College property includes any property associated withinstruction, including, but not limited to, buildings, parking lots, sidewalks, and driveways. Storingfirearms or weapons in a personal vehicle on college property is likewise prohibited6. Attempted or actual theft of or damage to property of the College or of a member of Collegecommunity7. Conduct which endangers the health or safety of any person. This includes social media posts thatindicate an intent to harm self, other students, or employees.8. Academic dishonesty including, but not limited to, cheating and plagiarism9. Furnishing false information to the College or other similar form of dishonesty including knowinglymaking a false oral or written statement to a College administrator, faculty member, staff member,Council or Behavioral Evaluation Team.10. Forgery, alteration, destruction or misuse of College documents, records, identification cards, papers,or systems11. Unauthorized entry into or use of College facilities12. Violation of federal, state, or local law on College premises or at College-sponsored activities13. Failure to comply with the directions of College officials or law enforcement officers acting in theperformance of their duties14. Disorderly conduct: Engaging in disorderly, disruptive, lewd or indecent conduct, or sexuallyinappropriate behavior. The item includes but is not limited to: inciting or participating in a riot orgroup disruption; failing to leave the scene of a riot or group disruption when instructed by officials;disruption of programs, classroom activities or functions and processes of the College; creatingunreasonable noise; or creating a physically hazardous or physically offensive condition.15. Discriminating on the basis of race, color, sex (including sexual harassment), sexual orientation,religion, ancestry, national origin, age, or disabilitySTUDENT CONDUCT AS RELATED TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMICWhile the world is working through the new realities presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, the CommunityCollege of Beaver County has taken significant steps to ensure the health and safety of all members of itscommunity, including the instituting of specific protocols related to sanitization, personal conduct and campusdecorum. Being a member of the Community College of Beaver County community in this era requiresstudents and employees to conduct themselves in ways that ensure optimal health and safety conditions canbe maintained on our campus. Student members of the College are those who are registered or enrolled in anycredit or non-credit course or program offered by the College.As authorized by item 7 in the Student Code of Conduct, the Community College of Beaver County hasdeemed that the conduct that is listed below is essential to ensuring the health and safety of our community.Please note that this list is subject to change as conditions merit, as public health requirements change, or asregulations introduced by local, commonwealth, or federal authorities supersede.Any individual student or group of students who fail to observe either the general standards of conduct orany specific ruling adopted by the College in this code, or who act in a manner not in the best interest ofCOMMUNITY COLLEGE OF BEAVER COUNTY STUDENT HANDBOOK 2020 - 202111

This listing ofCOVID-related causes for disciplinary action is not intended to be, or should not be, considered restrictive ora waiver of any other act not listed or specifically mentioned herein. While the list of conduct that follows isaccurate at the time of printing, as circumstances change any additions to or amendments to the institution’sconduct standards related to COVID-19 will be found at www.ccbc.edu/coronavirus. To be in good standingat Community College of Beaver County, members of the CCBC community must:1. Wear masks or face shields at all times while on campus.2. Engage in Social Distancing (being 6 feet from others) in all classroom settings, resource spaces andcampus gathering areas3. Use designated entrance and exit points in various academic buildings4. Use provided cleaning supplies upon entrance and exit of classrooms to sanitize their specific seatingarea.5. Use the Campus Clear app (or the CDC’s self-check online tool) prior to coming to campus to ensurethat they are safe and not showing COVID symptoms6. Follow all safety signage and recommendations, including frequent washing of hands for at least 20seconds.7.
