Selecting a CasterLoad RatingInstallationEach Wagner caster and wheel carries a maximumrecommended load capacity, based on manual operationwith intermittent service at speeds of two miles per hour.Wagner load ratings are in accordance with Institute ofCaster and Wheel Manufacturers (ICWM) recommendations.Installation is simple, with a variety of standard plate andstem mounts available to meet specific customer needs.Wheel Size and Tread HardnessGenerally, larger diameter wheels roll easier and absorbshock better than smaller wheels. Wider wheel treads spreadload for better floor protection but are harder to roll thannarrow treads. Hard tread wheels have higher load capacityand roll easier than soft tread wheels which provide acushioned ride and quiet operation.FinishAll Wagner standard casters are zinc plated for attractiveappearance and corrosion resistance. Other finishes areavailable upon request.Swivel DesignDouble Ball Swivel RaceThis style features two sets of hardened, polished steel ballstraveling in two hardened, lubricated raceways. Providesmaximum swivel and load capacity and long life.Floor ConditionsSoft tread wheels protect floors and offer quieter operation,though they are less suited for carpeted areas. Itprovides quiet operation,absorbs shock, and protects floors. Available in 2"tread width with roller bearingfor use with heavier loads. Treadhardness: 70 to 85 Shore A.Soft tread wheels haveThis all-rubber wheel has a softrubber tread integrally moldedand bonded to a hard rubbercore. It provides a cushionedride and quiet operation andis an economical and versatilechoice for light to mediumloads. Tread hardness: 70 to 85Shore A.lighter load ratings thanequal size hard treadwheels. Itrolls easily under heavyloads, has superior wearresistance, and takes shockimpact well. It is not recommendedwhere noise, shock protection of loads, or floorprotection are of concern.
Wheel BearingsPlain BearingsThese are the most economicalbearings because the naturalmaterial of the wheel hub borefunctions as the bearing. Plainbearings are most common inplastic hub wheels because theplastic material has naturallubristic properties. They are ideal for corrosive applications,require infrequent or no oil lubrication, and wear well.Delrin BearingsThese bearings are made of anengineered plastic material pressfit into the wheel hub bore. Theyare very durable, corrosionresistant, and typically requireinfrequent or no oil lubrication.Two Delrin bearing styles areavailable:1) Straight sleeve type (top) forall Cushionex Supreme, SpartanSupreme, and 1" and 2" treadwidth Poly II wheels; and2) Flanged insert type (bottom)for all other Poly II wheels.Delrin is a registered trademark of DuPont.Sintered BearingsThese sintered metalsleeves are impregnatedwith oil and press fitinto the wheel hub bore.They typically requireinfrequent or no oillubrication, wear well, and have good heat andcold resistant properties.Roller BearingsThese bearings will carry aheavier load capacity andtypically last longer than ballbearings. They provide goodstart-up and rolling ease andrequire periodic greaselubrication. Roller bearingshave hardened rollers and areinserted into a hardened splitouter race which is insertedinto the wheel bore. Rollerbearings for 2" tread wheels(top) include a wheel spannerbushing, which is not requiredfor any other tread width (bottom).Ball BearingsFlanged ball bearings provideoptimum start-up and rollingease.
