TIP! In addition to utilityincentives for LEDs, theremay be additional incentivesfor the embedded sensorsand controls in SpaceWiseTechnology. Check with yourlocal utility to see if additionalincentives are available.Success StoryIn a recent Chicago installation in the GSAoperated Metcalfe Federal Building, DuaLEDwith SpaceWise was shown to save 75% ofthe energy consumption as compared to thedesigned baseline of 1.09 Watts per squarefoot. The annual Energy Use Intensity (EUI) ofthe retrofitted area was reduced from a designbaseline of 3.96 kWh/ft2/yr to 0.98 kWh/ft2/year.* Energy codes, standards and utilityincentive programs are moving towards theEUI metric as a way to properly measure actualenergy consumption rather than connected load(Watts per square foot).* The project was installed under the GSA Green ProvingGround Program. Final results are anticipated for publicationin early 2015.Typical Project ComparisonProject Parameters: 15,000 square feet, Annual Operating Hours of 3,120, 0.12 kWh/yearBeforeAfterLuminaire Type2x4 - 3 lampT8 fluorescent2x4- LEDWatts per square foot1.10.5Controls StrategiesN/ATask Tuning, Occupancy Dimming& Daylight DimmingMeasured Energy Costs 1,404 6,178Yearly savings 4,774 75%3

open officesDeep energysavings withoutcompromiseThe traditional approach to energy savings in open plan iswattage reduction. In retrofit projects this often results inlight levels below recommended practice and a dreary roomappearance. SpaceWise technology overcomes these problemswith smart luminaires that provide full light output at occupiedworkstations and lower background light level at unoccupiedworkstations. The aesthetic of the space is maintained witha background light level that won’t turn off luminaires until theentire wireless group is unoccupied.Design and ApplicationSystem BehaviorWith SpaceWise Technology, the traditional needto provide a controls design and intent with wiredzones is not necessary. The controls are embeddedin each luminaire. After installation, wireless groupsare created quickly with a handheld remote, andapplications modes are chosen. When the first occupant enters, the lightinggroup brightens up gently to a background level. When configuring open plan offices with theSpaceWise Remote, large groups of 30-50luminaires are recommended. As long aspresence is detected within the group theluminaires stay on at the background light levelin non-occupied areas. Daylight harvesting occurs automatically. When choosing a luminaire and creating alighting layout, choose a lumen package thatwill provide your maximum desired light output.Once installed, the electrical contractor or facilitymanager will be able to modify the light outputper group to one of four settings: high (100%output), medium (88%), low (77%) and minimum(66%). This provides flexibility after installationto adjust to existing conditions such as partitionheights, reflectances, and energy goals. As each occupant arrives at their workstation, luminaires in the immediate area brighten up tofull illumination and the remaining luminaireswill stay at background level. When people leave their workstations, after 10minutes the luminaires gently dim to backgroundlevel. The lighting group will turn off only when theentire group has seen no occupancy for 10minutes. Please note that the lights will not start toramp up until stable presence is detected.5

private officesManual controlsallow for smartflexibilityWith SpaceWise Technology, occupancy and daylight sensing isstandard and embedded in the luminaire. With the addition of awireless switch, users have personal control of their light levels.Design and ApplicationBy linking the wireless switch to the group ofluminaires in a private office space, users canoverride the sensor determined light levelsto their preferred light levels. The system willremember this preference during short vacancyperiods and will revert back to the default lightoutput after a long vacancy period.Manual ON/Auto OFF behaviors include:System BehaviorAuto ON/Auto OFF behaviors include: User chosen light levels can be achieved with apress and hold action on the wireless switch. When occupant enters the room the lights turnon to the task level. User chosen light levels are remembered by thesystem for 45 minutes after vacancy, so thatwhen the user reenters the space, the previousmanual dimming light level is restored. When the space is unoccupied for 10 minutesthe lights slowly ramp down to the backgroundlevel. Daylight harvesting occurs automatically, exceptwhen there is a manual override by the user. When the switch is turned on lights quickly rampup to the task level. When the space is unoccupied for 10 minutesthe lights dim slowly to off. Lights will remain at the background level for15 minutes before turning off.Other system behaviors vary depending onwhether a user chooses Manual ON/Auto OFF orAuto ON/Auto OFF.7

meeting roomsCreate lighting thatenhances meetings& presentationsLighting planning for meeting or conference rooms needs to be flexibleto fulfill a variety of situational requirements. For example, audiovisualpresentations may require lower light levels. SpaceWise has the flexibilityyou need for these areas, while also providing automatic daylightharvesting and occupancy sensing within each luminaire.Design and ApplicationWhen using SpaceWise Technology in a meeting room, specify the wireless scene selector to get the flexibilitybetween automated dimming behaviors or user-chosenpresets. The scene selector does not function as amanual dimmer.*Manual ON/Auto OFF behaviors include: When one of the buttons on the scene selector ispressed, lights turn on according to the function ofthe button.System Behavior When the space is unoccupied for 10 minutes the lightsdim slowly to off. The wireless scene selector has 4 presets:Auto ON/Auto OFF behaviors include:Button 1: Automated dimming based onoccupancy and daylightButton 2: 20% default light output**Button 3: 40% default light output**Button 4: Off Daylight harvesting occurs automatically, except when apreset light level is chosen by the user.Other system behaviors vary depending on whether a userchooses Manual ON/Auto OFF or Auto ON/Auto OFF. When occupant enters the room the lights turn on tothe task level. When the space is unoccupied for 10 minutes the lightsslowly ramp down to the background level. Lights will remain at the background level for 15 minutesbefore turning off.*If full range dimming is desired in the meeting room rather than presets, the wireless switch is required. See more details about the wirelessswitch in the Private Office portion of this Guide.** Buttons 2 and 3 can be set to different outputs during configuration.9

corridorsLight whenyou need itCorridors usually have irregular occupancy pattern andgenerally do not require high light levels. SpaceWise Technologyoffers deep energy savings by keeping the luminaires at thebackground light level when people are simply passing through, coupled with a faster time out after vacancy. Task level output isprovided only when stable presence is detected, for impromptumeetings or for paper tasks.Design and ApplicationSystem BehaviorWhen preparing the lighting layout, keepin mind that the background setting will bethe predominant light level, because stableoccupancy resulting in full output will beuncommon for corridors. Therefore extra widespacing between fixtures is not necessary toachieve energy savings. When motion is detected or when a switch isturned on, the group of lights in the corridor willturn on to the background level. If corridor luminaires are grouped separatelythey will go off when there is no vacancy after20 minutes. If this behavior is not desired, it isrecommended to group corridor luminaireswith adjacent open plan areas.* Lights will remain at the background level for15 minutes before turning off. When occupancy sensors see stable presence, they will ramp up to the task level. When thespace is unoccupied for 5 minutes then lightsslowly ramp down to the background level.* See more details about open plan behaviors in the OpenPlan portion of this Guide.11

path of egressControl & illuminatethe path of egress10 to 20% of building lighting is typically dedicated for emergency use.Traditionally emergency lights are configured to stay on all the time, wasting a significant amount of energy. With SpaceWise Technologyit is possible to provide adequate light output during emergency eventsand save energy using controls for emergency lights during normalpower conditions.Design and ApplicationIf your buiilding does not have an emergency backupsystem installed, use SpaceWise Technology luminaireswith a built-in battery pack to save energy. This willallow energy saving behaviors during normal operationwhile also providing the required light output during anemergency event. If your building has an existing generator backup system, itis recommended to activate the ‘path of egress’ setting onall the SpaceWise Technology luminaires installed on thegenerator circuit. The ‘path of egress’ setting disables theautomatic shutoff feature of the luminaire. However, theluminaire still operates in conjunction with the rest of theSpaceWise group and will continue to regulate the lightsbased on their daylight and occupancy sensing elements. It is not necessary to create a separate group of luminaireson the emergency circuit. Luminaires can be groupedtogether in any manner but care should be taken thatthe luminaires that are being powered on the emergencycircuit are identified and their path of egress setting isactivated.System Behavior When motion is detected or when the switch is turnedon, lights ramp up to the task level. When the space is unoccupied for the time configured inthe selected application mode then the lights will rampdown to the background level. If battery pack is specified then the lights will turn offafter the configured time in the selected applicationmode. If ‘path of egress’ setting is activated on select luminairesthen those luminaires will not automatically turn off andwill stay at the background level while the rest of thegroup will turn off.13

SpaceWise Technologyspecification extrasProvide room-based control and meet aggressiveenergy codes with wireless battery-less sensorsWall switches for new construction or major renovationMost energy codes for new construction or majorrenovation projects will require that the switches havea manual on/auto off functionality. Some of the mostrecent codes also require daylight dimming for certainspaces. SpaceWise Technology meets these coderequirements with integral occupancy and daylightsensing. The SpaceWise compatible wireless switchesallow the system to be configured for manual on /automatic off requirements and also provides dimmingoverride capabilities.Wall-based controls for retrofit projectsTypically, retrofit projects do not require changes to thewall based controls to force manual on functionality.Auto shutoff is typically required, and that requirementis met by the SpaceWise luminaire-based sensors. Foradditional energy savings wall based switches can beadded to replace dated toggle switches.Configure groups and light levels using theSpaceWise RemoteSpaceWise RemoteThe SpaceWise Remote is necessary to configure theSpaceWise System. In an open plan space, luminaires aregrouped into standalone networks* of up to 50 luminaires. This initiates the dimming behaviors and operation of thewireless, battery free, kinetic switches. The remote is usedto choose the proper room mode within the space, andlight level preferences are then chosen per group. Use theSpaceWise remote to connect the wireless wall switch orscene controller to the luminaire.* SpaceWise uses Zigbee protocol to create a standalone mesh networkper group. The groups do not communicate to each other or the BMS.14Philips Lighting ControlsExtend the occupancy coverage area of yourSpaceWise luminaire with external OccuSwitchWireless SensorsAvoiding false turn offSome office areas may have a non-standard ceiling grid orunusual barriers between the sensors and workstations, which may prevent the luminaire sensor from detecting allthe workstations. With the help of an external OccuSwitchWireless ceiling sensor the occupancy coverage area ofthe SpaceWise luminaires can be extended to detect theentire work space area.Note that the external ceiling sensor is not connected toany load so it will not regulate the lights between the tasklevel and the background level, it will only prevent thegroup of lights from falsely shutting off.Turn on the lights before you enter the spaceIf there is a need to have the lights turned on just beforethe occupants enter that space then it can be achieved byinstalling the external ceiling sensors at various entry pointsto detect incoming occupants. This way the space is pre-litand the possibility of a dark passage way is avoided.Features Up to 10 OccuSwitch Wireless Sensors can be addedto a group of SpaceWise luminaires 10-year no-maintenance operation with a heavy dutylong life 3.6 volt Lithium-thionyl chloride battery. Wireless controls mean no sensor wiring needed, eliminating the task of opening the ceiling to installsensor.
