Milestones2008DALS Lighting Inc. was founded andquickly grew to become a leaderin Accent Lighting by launching aninnovative LED product line.2010DALS launched its Architecturalproduct line by acquiring the assetsof Diversified Architectural Lighting,which had previously been operatingsince 1967.2011 - 2014DALS continued its steady growthby shifting all of its product lines toLED light sources while continuing tofocus on best in class service.2015Following its rapid growth with LEDproducts across North America,DALS launched its LED Design Guide,which focused exclusively on LEDtechnology and included several newinnovative items. DALS also openedits LED lighting showroom at theDallas Market Center.2016DALS moved into its newheadquarters in Blainville, Quebec,Canada. DALS also expanded its U.S.operations in Coral Springs, Florida.2017DALS introduced its first Smart Homelighting products and also startedexhibiting at Lightfair international.2018DALS launched its Smart Homeeco-system which includes a rangeof connected products that areeasy to use with the DALS mobileapp. The launch of this categoryhas generated a lot of excitementin the industry and we've dedicateda team to accelerate the continueddevelopment and optimization in thisdivision.2020Heading into 2020 DALS boastsa complete range of easy to usesmart lighting as well as best in classdesigner lighting products.

How to Choose Recessed LightingProper Sizing, Spacing andDownlighting TechniquesThe componentsOur recessed kits include two main components: the driver and the fixture.ABCThe driver (A)The fixture (B & C)is what is recessed into the ceiling and consists of theelectrical parts that bring power to the light.is what’s visible to people in the room and gives the lightits aesthetic.GOODTO KNOW!Fixtures and drivers are sized to correlate withone another and are sold together with all of ourrecessed lights.Recessed dals.com 6
Panels. Spotlights. Downlights. Whatever you callrecessed lights, they’re some of the most versatilelighting options out there. The most common use ofrecessed lighting, and what we’ll focus on here, isrecessed downlighting from the ceiling.Installation typeWhat fixture you choose starts with knowing whether it will be used in a new construction, a remodel or as a retrofit.DENew constructionRemodelsRetrofitLocations with visible ceiling joistsand without drywall. Lights can beused with our rough-in plates (D) tohelp in the installation process.When the joists are not exposed orif you want to upgrade your currentsystem to LED.When an existing bulb is removedfrom the original housing, andreplaced with an LED trim (E).GOODTO KNOW!Most of Dals’ recessed fixtures are designedfor new construction and remodels. Thesefixtures are installed through a small openingin the ceiling and held in place with clips.GOODTO KNOW!A rough-in plate is designed for newconstruction or renovations where the ceilingframing is exposed. How to Choose Recessed LightingHow many downlights do I need?A simple method for estimating thenumber of downlights required is asfollows:Recessed downlights are generallypositioned 2 to 3 ft. away from wallswith a space of 3 to 4 feet betweeneach light.Dividing the ceiling height by two is away of gauging how much space toleave between each downlight.Thus, if your ceiling is 8 foot high,place your lights 4 feet apart.GOODTO KNOW!In Canada, 4” recessed lights are the most popular, in theU.S., 6” are most commonly used.Recessed dals.com 8
Notes on ratingsICIC Ratedr ated(“IC” stands for Insulation Contact) IC rating isessentially a measure used to determine if a recesseddownlight is suitable to come into contact with yourhome’s insulation or not.Wet ratedwet r atedWet-rated lighting fixtures are used in places withdirect exposure to water (ex. inside the shower).Fixtures rated for wet locations use waterproof sealsto protect their internal components from moisture.(example product: RGM4)Damp rateddamp r atedDamp-rated lights are used in places that havesome contact with moisture, but not in areas withconstant or direct exposure to water. These lights donot have the same full seals as lights made for wetenvironments, but they’re used in many situationsaround the home. You can use damp-location ratedrecessed lights to illuminate the area directly outsideyour shower. (example product: 2004-WH)Air tightair tightAirtight fixtures help keep air conditioning orheating from leaking out of the home through holesin the ceiling.Look for these icons thoughout the catalog to findthe product that’s right for you.Recessed dals.com 9
