SAINTT CLAREE OFF ASSISII PARISHHNovemberr 28,, 20211LOVEE GOD,, SERVEE GOD:: EVERYTHINGG ISS INN THAT.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,I have two recurring dreams. I guess they are kind of nightmares. One is that I am hos ng a big Mass at my church anda bunch of priests and bishops are there and I am running around anxiously making sure everything is set up. I run outof me. Mass is star ng. The opening hymn begins, and I don't have my vestments on. I run hurriedly to the vestmentcloset and I can't find any. I finally find one, go out into the Sanctuary and realize that I am wearing the wrong color! This is when I usually wake up all sweaty and breathing heavy. The other dream I have, I’ve had for a long me. It involves looking for a classroom and not being able to find it. I can't find it because I haven't been to the class all semester. When I finally find it, I realize that the teacher is giving the final exam. I don't even know what the subject is. Ihaven't cracked the book all year, and now I have to take this test! Again, I wake up pan ng and swea ng.As we begin Advent this week, the Gospel reminds us that, in the end, we will all stand before the Son of Man. "Thedays are coming" the Prophet Jeremiah tells us in the First Reading. How does that make you feel? The fact that therewill be trials and tribula ons and that we will stand before the Son of Man? I'm not going to lie. In some ways it makesme feel like I do in my recurring dreams. Am I prepared? Have I done enough? Do I have the right color on? Will I beable to find the right room? And I start pan ng and swea ng.The thing is, what we have been hearing in our Readings for the last few weeks, the apocalyp c language, the comingend, the final test, it is all true. It will come for each of us, and then for all of us. But before we get all sweaty and anxious, lets remember two things.First, in the Second Reading, St. Paul tells the Thessalonians, and us, that we know the answers to the test! St. Paulsays, "you received from us how you should conduct yourselves to please God." So in essence, St. Paul is saying thatthe final exam is open book, open note, you can use your phone! Don't let the "anxie es of daily life" as Jesus says inthe Gospel, distract you. You will have a test, but you know theanswers and it is open book. Don't be afraid.Second, think about who is giving this final test. Don't get mewrong, Jesus will judge us. What we do and the way we livema ers. He is not a pushover. But He is Jesus. His Mercy endures forever. He is Jesus. He loves you so much He dies for you.He is Jesus. He loves us so much He became one of us.The baby in the manger that we so long for.He is Emmanuel. He is God with us.So as we begin our Advent, understand that we arepreparing for a test. One that will surely come.s.But it is an open book test and it is being given by Jesus.Stay awake. Raise your heads. Don't let this me bethe same as the rest of the year. It isn't. Prepare yourhearts for Christmas and prepare your hearts forthe end. Don't be afraid. We have all that we need.Peace and Love,Fr. Ma
