Conclusion Leveraging the experience and sound infrastructure of ICTmanufacturing, T aiwan is well positioned for developing next generationflexible electronics. Development activity in T aiwan is propelled by the government’s seedfunding. ITRI’s role is to develop, along with research universities, thefundamental technologies and, subsequently, transfer the capability tothe industries in building a complete supply chain. Presently, flexible display is the most promising market opportunity forlaunching flexible electronic manufacturing. Large area, flexiblesensors could be the next. Recent financial difficulty drove a wave of western start-up firms to seekfund infusion, or manufacturing partners in Asia. This trend has helpedto bring to T aiwan a few important technologies in the flexibleelectronics area.Copyright 2010 ITRI21
