Being thankful isthe seed you plant in your soul thatsprouts and produces the fruit of joy. Next, after listing three blessings, write downone thing you’re hoping for in the comingyear. It might be a hope for a person youlove, an event you want to see happen, orsomething for which you have beenyearning for some time. Then, with bothyour blessings and hopes in mind, bringthem with you to worship this Sunday aswe make a good new beginning to theyear and a new decade.Let me offer some thoughts about thenews report that came out on January 3about the United Methodist Church. The mainstream media reported that theUnited Methodist Church had announceda deal to split (“The Protocol”).But, that’s not quite what has happened.A group of people representing severalfactions in our denomination recently sat

down together at a mediation table to discussthe best way forward for the church, and theycame up with a proposal for separation. I wantto emphasize this is one proposal of many thatare slated to be considered by the GeneralConference set for May of this year. Its passageis not a certainty. Therefore, there are many inthe UMC who are nervous and anxious. I don’tknow if the Protocol will be approved at thenext General Conference or not, but I do knowwhat we will be doing here at Bellport. In thecoming weeks and months, we will worshiptogether, pray together, serve together, loveone another, celebrate God’s grace together atthe Lord’s Table, talk with one another aboutwhat Christ is doing in our lives, listenempathetically as others share their experience, and grow in Christian maturity together.Bellport is and will continue to be a placewhere everyone is welcome and will be fullyincluded in the life and ministry of the church. If you would like to talk further, please reach out to me.This year holds great promise for our ministry. Ipray that you will experience the grace of ourLord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and thefellowship of the Holy Spirit as we walk thisjourney together.See you Sunday!Peace,Pastor SuheeLONG ISLANDCOUNCIL OF CHURCHESDear Reverend Kim,On behalf of the Long Island Council of Churches'Administrative Board, staff, and the hungry LongIslanders we serve, I thank you for your contribution 300.00.
