General Permit InformationThe Child Development Permits are issued through theCalifornia Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC).Permits are valid for 5 years from the date they are issued*Most of the permits require 105 hours of professional growth inorder to get your permit renewed.*number of hours may increase

Why have a permit? Allows you to be employed as a Child DevelopmentTeacher or Supervisor/Director within a state funded (Title 5)or federally funded child development program. Head Start Programs School District Child Development Programs receivingTitle 5 Funds/CDE Grants Public or Private Preschools with CDE Grants Positions requiring a Permit typically have higher salarieswithin the industry Having a permit can make you more marketable tomore programs

What kind of Permits are Offered?

All Option One Education qualifications above theAssistant Permit MUST have completed or include these12 CORE units within your course work:* Will require two, 3 unit classes to complete the required 12 units total

All Option One qualification above theAssistant Permit MUST also have a specificamount of experience, (days/hours)depending on permit levelAssociate Teacher Permit 50 Days 3 hours per day within 2 yearsTeacher Permit 175 Days 3 hours per day within 4 yearsMaster Teacher Permit 350 Days 3 hours per day within 4 yearsSite Supervisor Permit 350 Days 3 hours per day within 4 years and atleast 100 days supervising adultsDirector Permit 1 Year as a site supervisor

Alternative QualificationsDepending on permit type, willrequire an AA Degree or higher* Industry is moving towards BA degree

Alternative Qualifications are another way to qualify for apermit without having to meet the days/hours “ExperienceRequirement” from Option OneAll permits ABOVE Associate Teacher can require a Degree**See Matrix for specific degree informationAll permits can require that you successfully completed asupervised field experience; This would be CHDV 2200 or apracticum course (interning in the classroom)(Observation courses cannot be used to satisfy thesupervised field experience)

How long is my Permit valid? All permits are valid for 5 years You MUST complete 105 hours of Professional Growth withinthe 5 years your permit is valid Professional Growth Hours can come from a variety oflocations College classes that contribute to your growthas a teacher or supervisor Workshops and in-service trainings CPR/First Aid Certification Being a professional Growth Advisor for otherpermit holders (if qualified) There are many other ways to fulfill these hourswhich are listed on the Professional GrowthManual found on the ABACC website ocs/pg manual childdev.pdf

What is a Professional Growth Advisor?This advisor is there to assist you in setting your professional growthgoals and verifies you have met the 105 hours required to renewyour permit.Can anyone be my advisor?No. Refer to the Professional Growth Manual for criteria youradvisor must meet regarding education and experience.Is there paperwork that needs to be signed by my advisor?Yes. The paperwork (Log and Goal Sheet) can be found in theProfessional Growth ManualWhere can I find an earch/advisor

What else do I need in order to receive apermit?1. Official Transcripts (Sealed) with proof of your units or yourdegree posted on the transcript2. A copy of your Live Scan receipt that proves you completedthe fingerprint scan.1. If you have an active Certificate of Clearance throughthe CCTC, you will not need a second Live Scan2. If you need a Live Scan, make sure you bring the correctLive Scan application to the Live Scan agency, with theCCTC information listed on the application form3. A check for the processing fee: 100.00 for initial permitand/or renewal and 50.00 for upgrade

How long does it take to get my Permit? Can take 2-6 months depending on how busy the CTC is You can check the status online at the CTC website Permit Certificates will not be mailed, you can print outyour permit information online once it is grantedHow do I renew my Permit? Permits can be renewed online at the CTC website Permit upgrades will require a new application withupdated paperwork

What permit will I be qualified for whenI graduate with my B.A. in ChildDevelopment?Once your Child Development Degree* hasbeen posted, you will be qualified to applyfor a:“Master Teacher” or “Site Supervisor”Permit* Successful completion of CHDV 2200 is required
