JIM LDue to the COVID-19 Pandemic, your Cultural Committee hasn’tscheduled any indoor events in December. The IHC Book Club will not meet in November due to the Thanksgiving Holiday. Wewill virtually meet again on December 9th to discuss our new book, Mark Rotella’s“Amore, The Story of Italian American Song”. “Amore” is a celebration of the “Italian decade”—the yearsafter the war and before the Beatles when Frank Sinatra, Perry Como, Dean Martin, and Tony Bennett, among others, won the hearts of the American public with a smooth, stylish, classy brand of pop. In Rotella’svivid telling, the stories behind forty Italian American classics (from “O Sole Mio,” “Night and Day,” and“Mack the Knife” to “Volare” and “I Wonder Why”) show how a glorious musical tradition became the soundtrack of postwar America and the expression of a sense of style that we still cherish. Anyone interested injoining our book club can join in. Just contact Jim Dibiase at 767-2292.There are still a few Italian Flag Banners available. The flags are 12"x18" on a 2-foot woodenstick. Great quality polyester. Ideal for placing near the gravestone of a departed loved one orplacing on your property on Columbus Day or any other time. They are 5.00 each.Call Jim DiBiase at 767-2292 to order.LettomanoppelloShepherd’s Hut 2017Italian Pastries, Autofest 2017Lancia Autofest 2017Palace of the Popes, Viterbo, ItalyAbruzzese Sheepdog(cane da pastore) MaremmanoIHC Band Cultural Exchange, Nepi 2010Italian TriviaWhile you are languidly bobbing up and down in a gondola, or sipping an aperitif in front of thePantheon, you can express the pleasure that her (his) company gives you with a simple but effective:"It's wonderful to be with you".Ο fantastico stare da soliΟ meraviglioso stare con teΟ stupendo stirare con teΟ splendido essere a casaIf you don’t know the answer to this, ask Gina DiPietrantonio Ferrante, Assunta Savage or Jim DiBiase.SALUTE / BENESSEREDENISE DAVIS207-468-3941DENISEMDAVIS84@GMAIL.COMHEALTH / WELFAREIf you know of any IHC members who are ill or recently deceased (including family members), and wouldlike the IHC to send them or their family a get well card, sympathy card, or mass card, please have them callme or email me. What to do if you are sickCall ahead to a health care professional if you develop a fever and symptoms of respiratory illness, such as cough ordifficulty breathing. Tell your health care professional about any recent contact with people infected with COVID‑19.Your healthcare professional will work with Maine CDC to determine if you need to be tested for COVID‑19.If you are sick or would like to be tested for COVID-19 but do not have a primary care provider, you can visit an urgentcare or walk-in facility for care and testing. Always call before you arrive to let them know you are coming. Pleasereserve Emergency Rooms for patients whose symptoms require emergency care. What if I am under-insured?Mainers who may have lost their job or income due to the COVID-19 pandemic are encouraged visitwww.coverme.gov to find insurance options. This website can also assist Mainers who never had insurance coverage.Maine residents who are uninsured are entitled to receive coverage for testing and diagnosis of COVID-19 at no cost, administered through the Maine Care program. Coverage includes testing for the COVID-19 diagnosis as well aslimited related services, including office visits and evaluations, telehealth triage and screening, but does not includecoverage for services for treatment. What happens when Maine CDC identifies someone with COVID-19?When a person is identified as having COVID-19, they are asked to self-isolate at home if they are well enough or areisolated in hospital if required. This continues until they meet criteria for release from isolation. When Maine CDC is notified of a positive result, an epidemiologist reaches out to the patient to conduct aninvestigation. Close contacts of the positive person who may have been exposed are identified and contacted. Theseindividuals are instructed to quarantine for 14 days and monitor for symptoms. What is the difference between isolation and quarantine?Self-quarantine means that you need to separate yourself from others because you may have been exposed to theCOVID-19 virus but are not currently symptomatic. Individuals asked to quarantine should do so for 14 days from theirlast exposure to the individual with COVID-19. Self-isolation means that you need to separate yourself from othersbecause you either 1) you are infected with the COVID-19 virus and you had a positive COVID-19 test; or, 2) you areprobably infected because you are a close contact of a confirmed case and have symptoms, although you have not beentested. The length of time an individual self-isolates depends on the course of their illness. For both self-quarantine and self-isolation: Stay homeYou cannot go to public places even for essential reasons, including grocery storesPlan to have enough food available or arrange to have it delivered to you to complete your quarantine/isolationDo not have visitors in your homeKeep a distance of at least 6 feet from other peopleDuring self-quarantine, you can have contact with other members of your householdDuring self-isolation, you should avoid having contact with other members of your household as much as possibleHow can a person be released from isolation at home?People who test positive or people who Maine CDC ask to self isolate should do so until:At least 10 days have passed since symptoms first appeared, AND At least 1 day (24 hrs.) has passedsince recovery (no fever without the use of fever-reducing medications), AND Improvement insymptoms All close contacts of a person who has tested positive for COVID-19 must stay home (self-quarantine) for 14 days
