Having the Business Intelligence (BI) Insight To Your ValuableProjects DataSubmittals 2014 CMCS

Why It Is a Must To Manage Submittals? Regardless of the project type, size, nature, location among others, it is a requirement thatbefore procuring and installing any material on the project site, that a formal approval issecured by the client and his authorized consultants. Usually all submittal items are planned at early stages of the project life cycle. The submittalrequirements will be stated in the contract documents including specifications, drawings, billof quantity among others. Submittals could include drawings, BIM models, samples, O&MManuals, Guarantees, Insurance, Method Statement, Test Results, Alternative Material,Installation Steps among others. Delays in the submittal process submission and approvals could result in project delays andclaims could be raised depending on who caused the delay. That is why it is highlyrecommended to link each submittal with the Project Schedule activity that represents thissubmittal to identify the needed approval date to allow enough time to procure the material. Therefore, managing the submittal process in any project is a must and needs to be done in atransparent and accountable format to ensure that the contractually obligations as it relatesto submittals is fully met. 2014 CMCS

Capturing Submittals Using PMWeb PMWeb provides the web-enabled platform to capture, share, store and report on projectSubmittal process by using the default out-of-the-box RFI form. The Submittal form has thefields that is needed for Submittal process for which some could be pre-defined in lists toensure standard data entry. The Submittal form allows attaching all supportive documentsand links to the relevant Submittal record. The PMWeb workflow allows formalizing thecollaboration when it comes to submitting, reviewing and approving the Submittal form. Those workflows could have conditions and branches that are based on the Submittal formattributes and values. The captured data can then be reported on using tabular and graphical reports as well ascustomized dashboards. PMWeb comes ready with SQL Reporting Services which is theapplication used to create reports and dashboards. This presentation explains how MS Power BI can provide greater analysis of the capturedSubmittal data to have better insight to make better and faster decisions. In addition, the MSPower BI dashboards enables sharing this valuable PMWeb Submittal data with otherstakeholders who might not be a PMWeb user but yet needs to be able to visualize Submittalperformance as well as verify the source of reported data. 2014 CMCS
