Instead I will share a few highlights, as well asan important update and a request.We just completed our first round of state-mandated testing and we had INCREDIBLE(as in unheard of, and the envy of all schools) attendance!! Thank you forencouraging, and in many cases ensuring that your son/daughter made it to school onthose days. Wow! The community support we receive forthese panel interviews is OUTSTANDING!! Without your invaluable contributions asstudent advocates and panel members, we would not be able to conduct theseinterviews/showcases. Another person deserving special recognition is Susan Jones, ourcareer specialist. She works tirelessly to organize students, staff and communitymembers, to ensure that this event goes smoothly. Thank you, Susan!May 3PromSpring is also a time when staff may decide to make life transitions. Recently Dr. KerryMance, our principal for the past 6 years, decided to retire to spend more time with hergrandkids. We thank her for her dedication to Black Hills High School and wish her along and joyful retirement. I will be filling in for Dr. Mance until the end of the schoolyear.May 14Mandatory Senior MeetingDuring PACK in PACWith Dr. Mance’s retirement, we will be conducting a search for a new principal. As partof this process, we need your input. opportunity with a STEM scholarship. This scholarship provides full tuition/plus for a student pursuing degree in one ofthe above fields. This year,1A/2A/3A were combined for Kick and Hip Hop. Competition was fierce amongst teams that have been competing andwinning for years. The trip toAtlanta is the culminating result of a year of hard work and dedication to high academic expectations. The studentscollaborated on an event that represents a real world of work project and qualified through multi levels of competition tocompete at the highest level on the international stage. This brings each student increased opportunities forscholarships, builds resumes, creates networks for their future careers and prepares them for college and beyond.These students are an inspiration to other students. Each year DECA students continuously work to reach the samelofty goal of international competition. All three of the BHHS ensembles earned ―Superior‖ ratings fromthe judges; the highest rating possible. The BHHS Chamber Choir also won the large mixed ensemble division(performing ―Dirait-on‖ by Morten Lauridsen) and will represent BHHS at the WIAA State Solo & Ensemble Competition,to be held at Central Washington University on April 25. This is the first time that a BHHS choir has won the regionalcompetition and the students are very excited for the opportunity to represent their school.Additionally, junior Bailey Docter won the Mezzo-Soprano category and will also compete at the state competition as asoloist. This is Bailey’s second time as a regional winner. Sophomore Jacob Anderson won 1 st Alternate (2nd place) inthe Baritone division.
