Sue North provided a few PowerPoint slides with suggestions forNovember/December.o Take a packet to a district office; bring a colleague or colleaguesfrom another agency with you – in other words, represent yourcoalition and your “community”o Invite people from legislative offices (members and staff) tomake a site visit to one or more of your programs. Commentso Ask legislators to accompany us on a Meals on Wheels deliveryrun.o Part of the bread and butter of a legislator’s life is learning abouthis or her district – providing them information is crucial forthem.o Beware of acronyms and jargon – take a last look at materials tomake sure they are understandable. There’s a good glossary ofterms and abbreviations in this year’s Summit booklet.o Will we have a formal outreach to federal legislators?

Response: The California Collaborative does review federalissues and regional coalitions members are welcome tojoin in those conversations. Also, any action that theCollaborative takes will be reflected on its website -www.ccltss.org – and through the regional coalitionlistserve. Sue North thanks the planning committee who worked on theAdvocacy Day. Laurel Mildred: The evaluations are definitely moving along ourcooperative agenda among Collaborative and regional coalitionsII.UPDATES FROM REGIONAL COALITIONS Carolyn Nava, Diversability Advocacy Network (Chico)o Focus is on health plan concerns and developing a strategy to getAnthem/Blue Cross to be more collaborative and engaged in morecommunity dialogue. They are also looking at hospital dischargeplanning to build the discharge planners’ awareness of localservices. We have a new social media presence. Brandi Orton, Los Angeles Aging Advocacy Coalitiono Building a local action team with a couple of sub-groups – thosefocusing on homeless older adults and those focusing on vulnerableat-risk older adults. These groups are focusing locally and at thestate level (e.g., working on housing with LeadingAge). Integrationof health and services with housing is needed. Within the effort toassist homelessness, there is a need to alter the assessmentindividuals go through. Also starting the planning for our summit onaging. Last year we brought labor and business to the table; thisyear, that effort is expanding. Allison Yant, Monterey Bay Aging and Disability Resource Coalitiono We had an all-day event in Monterey County with ADRC and AAA inSeptember. We heard from LeadingAge and from a housing/healthcare expert. Breakout groups in the afternoon and a closing sessionwith elected officials (120 participants). Developed action stepsand leaders for each of the work groups with follow up inNovember. Also, in Santa Cruz County was a “solutions summit.”They have workgroups as well and a follow up calendar. In thecoming year, there is a goal of a summit of some kind in San BenitoCounty.

Jan Lemucchi LTSS Workgroup of Kern Countyo This has been a growth year for our coalition. Working with theCentral Valley coalition on Advocacy Day may lead to morecooperative ventures from Fresno to Kern. Met with a localassembly member in his office and shared a transportationchallenge with him that they will also share with city councilmembers and members of the board of supervisors. The coalitionmay go through a name change, too.III. ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM THE SCAN FOUNDATIONKali Peterson, Program Officer, The SCAN Foundation Reflections on the pride and excitement around Advocacy Day – Mark’skick off remark, the well-organized nature of the event, and the depthof effort by regional coalition representatives during the day. TSF calls to each coalition have begun – check with your team leader ifyou would like details. Review of Q7 reports will happen this week.
