MEMORANDUM OF AGREEMENTBETWEENTHE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT ARLINGTONANDJARVIS CHRISTIAN COLLEGEPERTAINING TO A PRE-ENGINEERING PROGRAMAT JARVIS CHRISTIAN COLLEGEFebruary 6, 1990The purpose of this agreement is to establish and maintain a strong workingrelationshie between the College of Engineering at The University of Texas atArlington (UTA) and the Division of Science and Mathematics of Jarvis ChristianCollege (Jarvis). Specifically, the agreement officially recognizes the establishmentof a two-year pre-engineering program at Jarvis followed by approximately threeadditional years at UTA leading toward one of the six engineering degrees offeredby UTA. Those students successfully completing this program of study will beawarded baccalaureate degrees from both institutions. The agreement alsoaddresses issues of student counseling and publicity designed to encour.age moreJarvis students to major in engineering and to optimize the scheduling of theircourses so that an orderly transition between the two institutions can be achievedThis agreement recognizes the following conditions, limitations, andresponsibilities of both of the colleges:1.UTA will expect pre-engineering students enrolled at Jarvis to maintain thesame minimal grade point averages required of engineering students enrolled atUTA in order to be considered in good standing.2.Jarvis pre-engineering students in good standing will be accepted as preengineering majors upon their transfer to UTA. ·3.Curriculum coordination and maintenance of updated transfer equivalencylists will be the responsibility of UTA If appropriate, courses offered by otherinstitutions located in the vicinity of Hawkins may be approved by UTA assubstitutions for critical pre-engineering courses not readily available at Jarvis.4.The program will be referred to as the Jarvis-UTA Cooperative Program inEngineering at Jarvis Christian College.5.The College of Engineering at UTA will erovide recommendations for theprogram. Jarvis will have the primary responsibility of promoting the program, butboth institutions will have the right to promote and advertise the program as acooperative program at Jarvis and UTA

6.The success of the program will be monitored by both institutions and maybe terminated by either party at any time when said party believes the terminationto be in the best interest of those involved.After modifications to this draft, the final document is to be signed by the chiefadministrators of both institutions.Approved:. I.PurposeThe purpose of this agreement is to establish and maintain acooperative relationship between Jarvis Christian College and theCollege of Arts and Sciences at the University of North Texas.Theinauguration of a joint degree program is aimed at best serving thestudents who elect this option in their post secondary ion through a personalized approach totrainingofwhichcommunications.betweenacademicAs a small, liberal arts college, Jarvis inTheprofessionalacareerinThe planned transition of program cationalexperiences for the greatest number of students.II.General DescriptionThe agreement officially recognizes the establishment of aprogram in mass communications at Jarvis Christian College whichculminates with approximately two-years study at the University ofNorth Texas.Students recruited into the program will be admittedto Jarvis Christian College under the admissions guidelines andcriteria applicable to all students.2Mass Communication majors

will be advised by Jarvis faculty members about career options, theJournalism and Radio, Television, Film majors at the University ofNorth Texas, and the specific core courses required by the JarvisChristian College-University of North Texas agreement.In thefourth semester of study, or during the semester that the studentwill complete 60 hours of transferable ion to the University of North Texas.the student willaiddocumentsforAcademic advisors atthe University of North Texas will work with the students to selectcourses which complete the university's core curriculum and courserequirementsFilm.forthe major in Journalism or Radio,Television,Both institutions will monitor the student's progress frequirements for a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism or oththeUniversity of North Texas and Jarvis Christian College will jointlyaward the student a Bachelor of Arts degree.III. Responsibilities and Implementation Procedures1.Coordination and evaluation of the program will be the jointresponsibility of the Office of Academic Affairs at JarvisChristian College and the College of Arts-and Sciences at theUniversity of North Texas.2.Jarvis Christian College has the primary responsibility for3

advertising the program and recruiting students, al though bothinstitutions will have the right to promote and advertise Christian College and the University of North JarvisChristian College faculty in advising students and presentingorientation sessions.4.Students must meet the admission criteria for Jarvis ChristianCollege when beginning the program.Students must remain ingood academic standing and meet the admission criteria fortransfer students before enrolling at the University of North. Texas.5.University of North Texas faculty will monitor the progress academic support.6.Thejoint baccalaureate studies programs in Journalism andRadio, Television, Film are supported by scholarships from theHallberg Foundation.Jarvis Christian CoI ege will select andadminister scholarships for students enr0lled in thejointdegree program while they are students at Jarvis ChristianCollege.Students continuing in the program will be eligibleto apply for the scholarship at the University of North Texas.4
