Youcan officially register for yourtraining program!Admissions TestingVocational Students:TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education)—this test isadministered for our vocational programs. Thetest measures reading and math.Vocational training programs and funding sources usecut scores to insure student success, and the TABE is apre-requisite for many of the longer-term career education programs. he TABE is a nationally-recognized, standardized test. Students may be enrolled whose scoresare below the cut-off score if there are extenuatingcircumstances, such as English not being the primary language. This is done on an individual basis. Students areadvised regarding the test results. They may qualify foracademic assistance through our Literacy department.They may also be provided with assistance with readingor math during their program.Students must call 607-739-7905 to signup for TABE.3Practical Nurse Students:TEAS—Test of Essential Academic Skills—Reading,Math, and Language—ATI Testing Company.TEAS is a nationally recognized, industry-developed test,which measures the aptitude of incoming students toensure success. The TEAS test is 70 (non-refundable)and students must call 607-739-8170 to sign up ahead oftime. InformationKNOW OURPOLICIES1. Any prospective student is welcome to visit the institution prior to registering for any program.2. All students are considered to be enrolled whenTABE, registration, and payment information is received. Enrollment in a training program is based onfirst-come, first served.3. Adult students seeking enrollment in a GST BOCES program through an agency sponsorship mustreceive agency approval prior to the registration process. Adult students must initiate contact with, andsecure endorsement from, the sponsoring agency.Agencies sponsoring adult students must confirmsponsorship with GST BOCES.4. Those seeking enrollment in a GST BOCES programas a self-sponsored adult student must contact usto receive and complete all applicable registrationforms and/or assessment testing for the desiredprogram.5. All scheduled training programs are subject tochange based on enrollment and instructional staff.We apologize for any inconvenience this may causeand strive to notify our students of changes in atimely manner.6. If GST BOCES cancels a class for any reason, tuitionand fees will be refunded 100% within 45 days ofthe planned start date. If a student withdraws on orbefore the third day of class, the student will receive a full refund. If tuition and fees are collected inadvance of the start date of classes and the studentdoes not begin the program or withdraws on orbefore the third day, 100 of the tuition and fees willbe retained by GST BOCES. Appropriate refunds fora student who does not begin classes shall be madewithin 45 days of the class start date.7. The following refund information applies only tostudents in programs receiving Federal FinancialAid or Title IV funding. If a participant withdraws oris dismissed prior to the 60% point of the paymentperiod, only a portion of the financial aid will havebeen earned. The student will be responsible for anyamount owing on his/her billing statement. At the60% point of the payment period, the student willhave earned 100% of their financial aid and 100% ofthe tuition for the payment period.8. Students in long term (100 hours ) training programs will be issued a certificate based on successfulcompletion of program requirements. Students whohave less than 90% attendance are required to makeup hours. Additional fees will be applied for thosehours.9. Smoking/vaping and the use of any tobacco products is not permitted on any campus at GST BOCES.10. Adult Education and Career Services follows the GSTBOCES established policy on social media. Information, continuedKNOW OURPOLICIESPrograms That AdmitTransfer Students:to complete. Once payment for the program has beenestablished and health form is successfully returned, thestudent will be given a start date to begin the program.The potential student must provide official transcripts showing the school(s) attended and the hourscompleted. The students must take a written assessmentand a hands-on assessment of their skills. The hands-onassessment is the New York State Board Written/Practical Examination. The Program Supervisor and an assessor (usually the classroom teacher) determine how manyhours will be transferred into the GST BOCES programbased on the success of the assessment. A placementtime-line is determined to identify a start date if the student’s current hours have not exceeded a period of twoyears. There is a 125 fee for this assessment/transferservice.Credit from other institutionsCosmetology and EstheticsWe do not accept any credits earned from anotherinstitution toward our completion requirements. However, in our Cosmetology, Esthetics and Nail Technology/Waxing programs, we accept student hours after assessing their theory and clinical hours to determine placement within the program.Policy on The Transfer of Studentsbetween Programs Within theInstitution 2020Practical NurseGreater Southern Tier BOCES does allow studentsto transfer to the Practical Nurse program from otherinstitutions, which includes both practical and registerednursing programs.GST BOCES has formal contracts with nursing schoolsin the surrounding area which allows a student to easilyassimilate from one school to another under specificcircumstances.After the potential student contacts the ProgramSecretary with interest in transferring to one of the Practical Nursing programs, the student will be required tohave a transcript sent to the Health Care Coordinator forreview. After a thorough review, the Health Care Coordinator will meet with a potential student and discussthe evaluation of the transcript. An assessment of theircompetency of Practical Nurse skills will required inorder to determine appropriate placement within one ofthe Practical Nurse classes.Once the student has been accepted into the Practical Nurse program, the student will explore paymentoptions and complete a student health form. The tuition for the student will be based upon the hourly ratemultiplied by the hours that the student will be requiredThe Adult Education Programs that are offeredby GST BOCES are separate and distinct entities. Specific trade skills do not carry over between programs.Although academic skills may be taught in all of ourprograms, each program presents academic skills in amanner that applies to the specific trade. For example,dimension sizes in a machining class are not transferrable to those used in cosmetology or welding.For this reason, we do not accommodate studenttransfers between the programs that we offer.5

Career TrainingAppearance Enhancement Commercial Drivers LicenseCosmetology – 1,000 hoursTuition: 8,995(CDL) and ConstructionEquipment OperationBush Campus Ext. & Coopers Campus Ext.Prerequisite: Must complete entrance assessment. 100 enrollment fee. The adult Cosmetology program isdesigned to prepare students for a career in the appearance enhancement field. Classes follow the 1,000-hourNew York State approved curriculum necessary to be eligible to take the state licensing exams. The Cosmetologyprogram offers students the opportunity to apply theirskills during regular classes while practical experience isgained by working in a clinical setting similar to that oftoday’s modern salons. Students will be required to purchaseblack scrubs.Commercial Driver’s License Program(CDL) Class A or B – 60 hoursTuition: 3,950Bush Campus Ext. & Coopers Campus Ext.Prerequisite: Must complete entrance assessment. Mustbe 21 years of age for class A or 18 years of age for classB, have a valid driver’s license, and must have passed theDOT physical exam and have CDL Permit prior to the firstday of class. Experience driving standard shift recommended.The student will complete a 60-hour course, whichincludes 20 hours of classroom and 40 hours of highwayand city driving instruction. You will learn about SafetyRules, Air Brakes, Tractors/Trailers, Coupling/Uncoupling,Driving Techniques, Vehicle Inspection, The Log Book,and Hazardous Materials. Full preparation for Department of Motor Vehicle road test. Road test will be takenwith GST BOCES tractor-trailer.Note: CDL B drive time can also be scheduled at the Coopers Campus in Painted Post.Esthetics – 600 hoursTuition: 7,295Main CampusPrerequisite: Must complete entrance assessment. 100enrollment fee. The adult Esthetics program is designedto prepare students for a career in skin care. The program provides comprehensive instruction that followsthe 600-hour New York State approved curriculum necessary to be eligible to take the state licensing exams.Train for one of the many careers available in the fieldof skin care. As a student, you have the opportunity toapply your skills during regular classes while practical experience is gained by working in a clinical setting similarto that of today’s contemporary spas. Drive time can be scheduled at any of ourcampuses and drive time will be a minimum of 2hours per drive time session.If you require additional driving time beyond theallowed hours, drive time can be scheduled at therate of 100/hour or in a package of 12 hours for 1,000.

Career TrainingConstruction Equipment Operation withIndustry Credentials: Forklift/Flagger/OSHA 10 – 82 hoursTuition: 2,000Industrial Electricity is part of the Industrial Technology program. Industrial Electricity is a balanced mix ofclassroom lectures and hands on lab exercises designedto give the student a fundamental understanding of electricity and electric components. Primary topics includeIndustrial Safety, Electrical Theory, AC and DC circuits,Transformers, Circuit Protection, Motors and motor controls, Semiconductor Theory in this 216 hour program.Start your new career today!Bush Campus Ext.Prerequisite: Must complete entrance assessment. If youare interested in operating heavy equipment or workingin the construction equipment field, this is the class foryou. Students will gain hands-on experience with thebasic operation of bulldozers, loaders, backhoes, andexcavators (equipment varies at each campus). In thisprogram you will also be instructed in safety, identification of equipment, operating techniques, simple planesurveying, and grades. Classroom and hands on experience will be provided. Additionally, you will get ForkliftOperation and Safety certification, Work Zone SafetyFlagger certification training and OSHA 10 Constructioncredentials. Work boots and helmet are required.Programmable Logic Controller (PLC)Prerequisite: Must complete entrance assessment. Alsoneeds to have successfully completed the ElectricityProgram, Industrial Maintenance program, IndustrialElectricity, or have an understanding of basic electricity,AC and DC theory with instructor’s approval. Also basicunderstanding and experience with the Windows PCenvironment.In this 140 hour training program is intended toprovide a fundamental understanding of the Programmable Logic Controller. This includes the hardwarecomponents included in a Programmable Logic Controller system and the software used to create, debug andmonitor the system. The program consists of both classlectures and hands on labs with PLC hardware, industrialsensors and a variety of devices typically controlled andmonitored by PLCs. By definition, this training course isnot a “programming “class. However, significant time isspent within the programming environment in an effortto enable the student to fully grasp the programmingconcepts, use the development environment in troubleshooting, process monitoring, and data collection.One-on-One TrainingThis training option offers flexibility and individualinstruction for many of our classes. Students should have a solid understanding of AC and DCtheory, single phase and 3 phase power. In this 48 hourcourse students will gain a solid understanding in the application and troubleshooting of the Variable FrequencyDrive. The course provides a balance of lectures andhands on exercises with a practical approach. This166-hour program is designed to prepare the studentfor employment as a Certified Nurse Aide and HomeHealth Aide. The course includes basic informationabout the care of hospitalized patients and residents in aSkilled Nursing Facility as well as taking care of individuals in their homes. Topics covered include patient’s andresident’s rights, medical terminology and basic anatomy and physiology. Skills taught range from bathingand bed-making to taking the temperature, pulse andrespirations. Preventative care and safety in the home isemphasized and job readiness skills are also taught. Students will gain hands-on experience using the tools,equipment and consumables of the welding trade andreceive training of in-depth skills with concentration ontechniques and proficiency in the welding field. Areas ofinstruction include blue print reading, welding symbols,theory and practice in all aspects of welding to includeStick, Mig and Tig (SMAW, GMAW, and GTAW). Moreadvance skills such as outof position welding (vertical up and overhead),oxy-fuel cutting, plasmaarc cutting and welding onmaterials such as stainlesssteel and aluminum willenhance the student’s skilllevel and overall weldingabilities.
