Introduction to Lindenwood UniversityThis catalog contains a description of the graduate programsoffered on the traditional day semester schedule and the evening quarter schedule of Lindenwood University. A separate catalog is devotedto the description and the special requirements of the LindenwoodUniversity undergraduate programs. All statements in this publicationconcerning policies, program requirements, fees, and other matters aresubject to change without notice. These values includebelief in an ordered, purposeful universe, the dignity of work, theworth and integrity of the individual, the obligations and privileges ofcitizenship, and the primacy of the truth.Historic LindenwoodAmid the beautiful linden trees, Lindenwood University wasfounded in 1827 by innovative pioneering educators Mary EastonSibley and Major George Sibley. They sought to establish an institution which reached across all fields of knowledge, teaching a solidacademic core along with the balanced sense of self-worth that accompanies dedication to the larger community and the world–an institution that was always up-to-date and with the times in teaching both thebreadth of the liberal arts and the attention to detail of the sciences,seeking to synthesize all knowledge in an effort to educate the wholeperson.Lindenwood University serves full- and part-time students of allages, with a wide variety of educational programs leading to baccalaureate and master’s degrees. This academic year, LindenwoodUniversity will serve more than 15,000 full-time and part-time students. More than 3,200 of these students will live on the university’sbeautifully wooded campus in St. Charles.Degree ProgramsLindenwood University offers coursework leading to the Masterof Science, Master of Arts, Master of Arts in Teaching, Master ofBusiness Administration, Master of Fine Arts, Master of Science inValuation, and Education Specialist (Ed.S.). Interdisciplinary majorsand minors are available in international studies and human resourcemanagement. In all divisions individualized degrees may be developed on a contract basis for interdisciplinary specialities. The majorareas of concentration and the format in which each degree is offeredare listed under “Academic Programs” in this catalog.Program FormatsLindenwood University strives to make quality higher educationaccessible to traditional and non-traditional students. Undergraduateand graduate academic programs are offered in three distinct formats, known as the Semester, Evening College, and the LindenwoodCollege for Individualized Education formats.The day semester programs are considered the “traditional” format,with undergraduate classes offered in the semester format during theday. However, graduate degree courses in education, art, and musicare also held on a semester basis, with some classes meeting in theevenings.The Lindenwood Evening College was established to meet therequest for part-time education for those unable to attend classes during the day. enables students to make progress toward an undergraduate or graduate degree without relinquishing career and family obligations.Many older adults who might not pursue higher education in atraditional setting find LCIE’s educational philosophy and flexibleprogram an ideal learning environment in which to earn a degree or topursue studies appropriate to personal learning goals.Together the Evening College and the Lindenwood College forIndividualized Education comprise the evening format. Since itsinception, the evening format has maintained a deep commitment tomeet the intellectual and professional needs of adult learners withemployment experience. Our purpose continues to be to provide highquality professional and personal competence.Using methods based in adult learning theory, the LindenwoodEvening College and the College for Individualized Education provide students with the techniques of scholarly inquiry. Through variedcurricula and excellent teaching designed to meet a full range of adultstudent needs, the Lindenwood evening programs realize their missionwithin the university community.housed in a modern, air-conditioned facility with ample parking.Campus LocationsBoone Campus of Lindenwood University–The site of the DanielBoone Home and Boonesfield Village is located on Highway F nearDefiance, approximately 40 minutes from Lindenwood’s main campus. This historic landmark merged with Lindenwood University in1998. The 1,000-acre Boone property, with its rich heritage and historic buildings and features, will remain a popular St. Charles Countytourist attraction.The campus also serves as a “laboratory” for students tostudy a variety of frontier-related programs, including the values,culture and history of the American frontier. Classes held at the siteinclude historic preservation, museology and archaeological digs.The tourist component provides for internships and practica in nearlyevery major in the Lindenwood curriculum, from accounting and marketing to theatre and education.In addition to the above, the university provides on-siteinstruction at a number of businesses and school districts in theregion.Belleville West Campus–located at 2600 West Main Street inBelleville, IL, the Belleville site has more than 50 classrooms, including science labs, computer labs, and multipurpose classrooms. Thereis a gymnasium, a computer room, an athletic field, a theater, andoffices.Lindenwood University Higher Education Center of LincolnCounty–located at 995 Main Street, Moscow Mills, MO, this center has four classrooms with traditional schoolhouse decorum. Thecenter includes a computer laboratory for technology classes.Weldon Spring Campus–located at 7295 Highway 94 South, theWeldon Spring site is housed in the former office complex of theDepartment of Energy. Generous parking and classroom space characterize this facility, which serves the Chesterfield area as well as theTechnology Corridor along Highway 40/61.St. Charles Campus–located at 209 South Kingshighway in the heartof St. Charles, this 500-acre site is the original campus founded bythe Major George and Mary Easton Sibley. Historic buildings gracethe tree-lined walks and house classrooms, administrative offices, andresidential living.Lindenwood University Cultural Center (LUCC)–located at 400 N.Kingshighway, a few blocks from the main campus. The LUCC is thecenter for the Lindenwood University for Individualized Education(LCIE) and the university’s music department. Classrooms, facultyoffices, and a 750-seat auditorium are among the building’s amenities.Westport Campus–located in the 12000 Building, 11960 WestlineIndustrial Drive, Suite 250, in west St. Louis County, this facility meets the needs of working adults enrolled in undergraduate andgraduate programs of the Lindenwood University evening division.Classrooms and administrative offices are housed in a modern, airconditioned facility with ample free parking.Firearms PolicyNo person is permitted to carry firearms or other weapons – eitherconcealed or visible – on Lindenwood property or to any Lindenwoodclass (offered anywhere), except duly sworn law enforcement officerswho are on duty. Off-duty police officers may carry completely concealed weapons to their Lindenwood classes only if authorized to doso by their employer and the state of Missouri or Illinois.Florissant Campus–Students in the Florissant, Missouri area cantake classes conveniently at Lindenwood’s new site, 4500 WashingtonAve. (formerly Our Lady of Fatima School). Those interested shouldcall 314-878-7653.O’Fallon Campus–located on the administrative campus of theCity of O’Fallon, Missouri at 100 North Main Street.
