Fall 2014THEIssue 30NEWSLETTERAAnother Successful Buildlthough Mother Nature was attempting to wash out this year’sdedication, she took a breaklong enough for the dedication of Jean and Patrice Claude andtheir five children’s house to be dry andsuccessful. The dedication was very wellattended as many of the workers andthe family’s friends showed up to wishthem well in their new house. The familyis very grateful to the entire CtBS familybecause they now can raise their familyin a safe and affordable home.With this hand up, the family becomes just like the majority of us: payinga mortgage, home maintenance to doand property taxes. To be eligible for ahouse, the family must contribute sweatequity hours to either Habitat (office/restore) or another build. The number ofhours is 275 for a single parent household and 500 for a two parent household. The family must also completeclasses in finance (budgeting), homemaintenance, and nutrition.If you’ve never been to a dedication,please join us. It is truly an upliftingexperience to see the joy in the facesof the family. Catch the Building Spirit Receives Grantfrom Bike and BuildBike and Build, a program thatintroduces young adults to theaffordable housing cause, hasawarded a very generous grant toCatch the Building Spirit. In the letterannouncing the grant, Bike and Buildstated “our riders identified your organization as having strong potential to impact the affordable housing landscape inyour community while involving youngadults in these efforts. Our program is2unique in that the trip participants themselves decide where their fundraised dollars should go. After all, they were theones who worked so hard to raise it!”Catch the Building Spirit considers itself blessed that the young adultswho stop and work at our build siteevery year provide good hardworkingvolunteers to our building effort. Wewere doubly blessed last year when wehad two different groups make a stop inCatch the Building SpiritDayton and volunteered on our house.The grant reinforces the effort the boardhas made to include young adults inthe building of our house.
