Greeting from the Director of the MSW ProgramOn behalf of the MSW faculty and staff, I welcome you to the School of Social WorkMaster of Social Work Program at Fayetteville State University. The primary purpose of theMaster of Social Work Program Student Handbook is to orientate you to the Master ofSocial Work Program and the University. Information, guidelines, curriculum, and policiesregarding the MSW Program are provided to guide you in your successful completion of theMSW Program.It is important to note that you should have two manuals: (1) the MSW Student Handbookand (2) the MSW Field Practicum Manual. The MSW Student Handbook addressesacademic and campus policies and procedures; while, the MSW Field Practicum Manualaddresses policies and procedures pertaining to a student’s field practicum. Please becomevery become familiar with both manuals as they will ensure that you have access to theinformation needed to successfully matriculate and complete the MSW Program.The mission of our program is to prepare students for professional social work practice andleadership with a focus on issues concerning children, families, mental health and substanceabuse. Our program is designed to produce social workers with the knowledge and skillsnecessary to provide leadership in addressing the complexity of problems encountered inrural, urban and military settings. The curriculum prepares students to become leaders andadvocates for socio-economic justice in a multicultural society. You will become a part ofan educational community that brings together faculty, social work professionals, andstudents for collaborative learning.Our faculty members have impressive teaching qualifications and social work practiceexperiences. Faculty members value students and are invested in student learning andprovide coherent, concise and comprehensive approaches to learning. The MSW Programmaintains outstanding relationships with professional associations and organizations onlocal, state and national levels. These relationships are established through our social workfaculty members.
