A G U I D E T O YO U R 4 PAT R IO T S 3- M O N T H S U R V I VA L F O O D K I TA GUIDE TO YOUR4PATRIOTS 3-MONTHSURVIVAL FOOD KITWHAT IS SURVIVAL FOOD?Survival food is like any food you mighteat. It’s got vegetables, sauces made fromtomatoes or cheese or milk and grains; it’s gota mix of protein and carbohydrates and fats;and it tastes great and fills you up. Survivalfood really only differs from restaurant food intwo ways.1. Survival food has all the water removed. We use a mixture of freeze drying anddehydrating to remove the water. Somethings, like peas, rehydrate to a lovelyfresh pea consistency when freeze-dried.But they remain chewy and are hard to14 PAT R IO T S .C O Mrehydrate when dehydrated, so we freezedry our peas. Our cream sauce, however, takes up less space, costs less and stillcooks up beautifully when dehydrated, sowe dehydrate it. Each 4Patriots SurvivalFood recipe is tested and taste-testedto get just the right ingredients that havetheir water removed in just the right ways,so your meal tastes like freshly-cookedfoods once you’ve prepared it.2. We use packaging that keeps out light, water and oxygen. You know that 4PatriotsSurvival Food can last up to 25 yearswith great nutrition and flavor. That mightseem like magic, but it’s all in the science.Food goes bad or becomes spoiled forreally only a few reasons: it’s infectedwith bacteria, it’s infected with fungusor the oils have gone rancid. When weremove the water and place our food in anenvironment with close to zero oxygen, likewe do, bacteria and fungus simply can’tsurvive. Our specially-designed pouchesmake sure that moisture, light and oxygencan’t seep in over time either, so thefood continues to stay fresh. Oils goingrancid is a chemical process that can’t2 0 2 1 C O P Y R IG H T

A G U I D E T O YO U R 4 PAT R IO T S 3- M O N T H S U R V I VA L F O O D K I Tbe completely stopped by blocking light, oxygen and moisture, so we take care inlimiting the amount of oils in most of ourfood and we make some recommendations(see below) on storing your kit in a waythat helps prevent that chemical process.STORING YOUR FOOD KITWe at 4Patriots really want your food to bethere for you if and when you need it, so we doall we can to make your food last. We packageit in specially-designed pouches and we sendit to you in strong totes that not only makeit easy to store, but also help deter rodents. However, there are a few things you can doonce you receive your Food Kit to make sure itlasts.or shed could be great, an un-insulatedbuilding might get too hot for prolongedperiods, depending on your latitude.Preventing RodentsMice, rats and chipmunks are just a few ofthe creatures that customers tell us haveenjoyed their 4Patriots Survival Food. If youwant your survival food to be there for you, itneeds to not be the food source for wildlife. While our totes are thick plastic with lockinglids, a determined mouse can and will gnawholes in even our thick plastic totes. The mostimportant step is not letting mice know thata storehouse of delicious food is available. We recommend washing the packages andtote in warm, sudsy water, just like you werehand-washing dishes, prior to long-termstorage – especially if you are storing themoutside. The outside of the packages oftenhave food powders clinging to them becauseof warehouse accidents and spills. The smellof those powders can attract pests that willgreedily chew holes in your 4Patriots SurvivalFood packages. The rinse will wash off thosesmells and keep your stash secret fromunwanted creatures.Open PackagesConsider Your Food Storage LocationAs we mentioned above in the What IsSurvival Food? section, one of the things thatcan shorten the shelf life of your 4PatriotsSurvival Food is rancid oils. That chemicalprocess speeds up under heat. For thatreason, we do not recommend prolongedstorage at temperatures over 75 F. So, underyour bed or in a closet are perfect places forlong-term storage. While an insulated garage2 0 2 1 C O P Y R IG H TThe 25-year shelf life for our food stops themoment the package is opened. Once oxygenand moisture get into the package, bacteriaand fungus can begin to grow. As such, werecommend cooking and eating any openpackage within two weeks of opening. Youcan re-seal the package or put it into a zipperbag to extend that time frame, but we cannotrecommend opened food over one monthold. Cooked food should be treated just likefresh food, going into the refrigerator for shortstorage and appropriately reheated beforeeating again.4 PAT R IO T S .C O M2

A G U I D E T O YO U R 4 PAT R IO T S 3- M O N T H S U R V I VA L F O O D K I TPREPARING A PARTIAL PACKAGEOur food scientists design our food to becooked one whole package at a time. Themulti-serving packages save on packagingcosts and allow more people to be able toafford our great food. At the same time, weknow that you might want to prepare partof a package and save the rest to be cookedat a later time. These steps will help ensurethat your food has the same great flavor andtexture that you can expect from the fullpackage.1. Dump the entire contents into a clean trayor cooking sheet.2. Using your hands or a spoon, try to get aneven distribution of large bits, like pasta, and fine bits, like sauce powder, all aroundyour tray.3. Once your mix is spread out, you can use aspoon or spatula to divide the mix into thenumber of servings listed on a package. Most are eight servings, so you woulddivide the mix in half, then in half again, then in half a third time so you end up witheight equal piles. Each pile is a serving. Youcan move those piles of mix to zipper bagsor sealed containers for use later.4. When you prepare your partial package, remember to divide your water too. 4 cupsdivided by 8 is 1/2 cup. 4.5 cups dividedby 8 is 1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons. Youmay need to do some math to figure outyour water needs. When preparing smallerportions, you may find you need a touchmore water than math would indicate.5. Cooking times will remain about the sameas the recipe indicates.RECIPES FOR EVERY DAYWhile our 4Patriots Survival Food is, of course, perfect during an emergency, it’s also deliciousfor a quick meal by itself or the beginning ofa great meal for just a regular old Tuesday. We’ve included some kitchen-tested recipesthat use our Food Kit meals to make youreach-and-every day stress-free.More Details:To find ingredient listings, FAQ or further information about your 4Patriots 3-Month Survival Food Kit,please visit us at: d-ingredients2 0 2 1 C O P Y R IG H T4 PAT R IO T S .C O M8
