Impropercharging may result in serious injury and or death.Charging your unit:1. Plug the provided AC cord into the back of the unit (see B); then plugthe cable into the AC wall outlet.2. While unit is charging, the lightning bolt will appear, and the batteryindicator will animate.3. The lightning bolt icon will remain illuminated as long as the unit isplugged into a charging source.4. Wait 10-15 minutes for the cells to settle. If you notice the batteryindicator drop down to 5 bars, reset the unit by pressing the mainpower button so the unit is off and then again to power the unit backon.5. When your unit is fully charged, turn the unit off. Then remove theplug from the wall and back of generator. Never leave your unit unattended while it is charging. Never let your charge via AC for more than five hours at a time.Charging more than five hours may damage the unit. Never store your unit in a charging state. If the unit is plugged into an AC outlet at the same time it is beingused to power an AC device, the unit will continue to functionas normal and charge during use. However, you must still stopcharging the generator after five hours. Caution: Do not charge your unit via AC and DC simultaneously. The unit does not accept both. DO NOT leave your generator unattended while charging throughthe AC port.14

DC CHARGINGWARNINGNever use damaged or frayed DC cord;electrical shock can occur if DC cord isdamaged or frayed. If DC cord is damaged, replace with a new cord before proceedingwith DC usage (request replacements viaContact Information on page 2).Charging your unit:1. Plug the provided Anderson extension cable into the back of the unit(see C); then plug the cable into the output of your charging source(for example, solar panel, handcrank, windmill, etc.).2. Depress the master power button on the back of the generator to theON position.3. While unit is charging, the lightning bolt will appear, and the batteryindicator will animate.4. Once the unit is fully charged, the battery symbol will display all sixbars as full. The lightning bolt icon will remain illuminated as long asthe unit is charging and will disappear when the unit is fully charged.5. This will turn the charger back on sothat it can fill up the balanced cells.6. When your unit is fully charged, turn the unit off. Then disconnect thecharging cables. Attention, The acceptable DC charging voltage rangeis 16. 5 - 32 VDC. If any other VDC is used, the unit will be damaged.AC USAGE OUTLETSWARNINGNever use damaged or frayed AC cord;electrical shock can occur if AC cord isdamaged or frayed. If AC cord is damaged, replace with a new cord before proceedingwith AC usage (request replacements viaContact Information on page 2). To use your AC outlets, plug in the devices you want to run. Thenturn on the inverter by switching the main AC power switch (see D)to the ON position. A green LED indicator will light up to confirm the15

power has been switched on. Once on, the outlets will work likenormal AC wall outlets in your home. In order to protect the inverter and battery, any sustained dischargeover 1800w will cause the unit to shut down. It can subsequently bereset. The watt meter, found on the bottom row of the LCD display, showsthe amount of energy being used by the inverter. Please note thisenergy output is an estimation, and actual output may vary fromdisplayed values. Because the watt meter measures inverter output, it will showwattage only for loads plugged into the AC output ports. This meterwill never display energy output from DC ports.DC USAGE OUTLETSWARNINGNever use a damaged or frayedDC cord; electrical shock canoccur if DC cord is damaged orfrayed. If DC cord is damaged, replace with a new cord beforeproceeding with DC usage(request replacements viaContact Information on pg. 2). How you use the DC Anderson Powerpole outlets (see E) dependson the amperage of your chosen load. For loads between 0 and 15amps, you can use an Anderson Powerpole extension cord. First, plug the extension cord into the desired device. Then, plug the otherend of the extension cord into the Anderson Powerpole outlet on thefront of the generator (plug black into black and red into red). Do notuse an Anderson Powerpole extension cable for loads greater than15 amps. For loads greater than 15 amps but less than the 20-ampmax, plug the device directly into the Anderson Powerpole outlets. To use the DC cigarette outlet (see F), simply plug in any 12-voltdevice that is rated for a maximum of 10 ams and operates asnormal. Please check with 4Patriots Customer Service for proper powerrequirements and compatibility. See Contact Information on page.16

DC USB OUTLETS To use your USB outlets, first plugthe device you want to use into oneof the available outlets. Then, turnthe power switch to the ON position.A green LED indicator will light up toconfirm the power is on.TROUBLESHOOTING/FAQ1. My Patriot Power Generator won’t turn on. Please make sure the main power button is turned on. The buttonshould remain depressed and illuminate with a blue light when theunit is on. Make sure the main AC power switch, found to the right of the LCDdisplay, has been switched to the ON position. When the green LED islit, your Patriot Power Generator AC outlets are on and ready for use. For the Patriot Power Generator to function at its highest ability, itmust be charged after being used and must not be abused, misusedor damaged. Please ensure all of these conditions are met. Should you encounter further trouble please contact our customerservice department (see Contact Information on page 2).2. I used the Patriot Power Generator once, and now itwon’t charge when I plug it into the wall. The Patriot Power Generator is designed to work for over 2,500 fulldischarge and charge cycles. If it will not charge, follow these steps:- Please make sure the main power button is turned on. Thebutton should remain depressed and illuminate with a blue lightwhen the unit is on.- Disconnect the power cable from the unit and wall outlet.- Inspect the cable for damage to both ends and the cable itself.- Inspect the Patriot Power Generator and the wall outlet fordamaged sockets or disfigurement.17

- After ensuring all connections are clean and free of any debristhat may prevent a solid connection, reconnect the PatriotPower Generator and check the LCD display for a chargingstatus.- If the Patriot Power Generator will not function after followingthese steps, contact customer support (see Contact Informationon page 2).3. My Patriot Power Generator won’t hold a charge. Please make sure when you store your unit that the master powerbutton is turned off. Verify that the power button is not depressedand not illuminated blue to ensure that the unit is turned off. The Patriot Power Generator will retain 80 percent of its 768 watthour capacity after one year of storage. However, please fully chargeyour unit every 3-6 months to extend the life of the battery. Afterstoring your unit for an extended period of time, it will need to berecharged before use. It will accept a charge from either an AC or DCsource plugged into their respective ports. While the Patriot Power Generator has a very large energy capacity,it is not limitless and after being used will need to be recharged.Think of the Patriot Power Generator as a glass and energy as water:When you drink water from a glass, it does not refill itself. You haveto refill it if you want it to hold more water. If the Patriot Power Generator will not function after you havefollowed these steps, contact customer support (see ContactInformation page 2).4. My Patriot Power Generator battery doesn’t last aslong as I thought it would. The Patriot Power Generator battery, which runs on DC power, hasa full capacity of 768 watt-hours (12.8 volts/60 amp-hours) andwill be able to provide that full capacity to any DC device connectedto it. When you are using the generator to power a device usingthe AC 120V outlets, the generator's battery must use a portionof its capacity to convert its native DC power into AC 120V power, meaning the battery has a slightly shorter life while running ACdevices. Yet the Patriot Power Generator battery uses one of themost efficient conversion processes available to keep the generatorworking at an impressive 90.6% capacity (691 watt-hours) whileusing the AC 120V outlet. To calculate how long (in hours) a device can be powered by thePatriot Power Generator, divide the capacity of the Patriot PowerGenerator (768 watt-hours [DC] or 691watt-hours [AC]) by the18

power consumption of the device (in watts) that is displayed on theLCD once you plug in the device. Capacity (Wh) / Consumption (W) Life of the device (h).- Example: A 100-watt light bulb used in the AC 120V port wouldlast about 6.9 hours (690Wh / 100W 6.9h); a 9-watt LEDbulb with a 100-watt equivalency rating would last 76.7 hours(690Wh/ 9W - 76.66h). When comparing how long different devices will function on thePatriot Power Generator, remember that all devices consumedifferent amounts of energy. For example, a newer 60-inch LEDtelevision may consume less energy than a 42-inch LCD televisionmanufactured 5 years ago and consume much less than a 10-inchCRT (tube) television manufactured 15 years ago. Always use theactual wattage consumption displayed on the LCD when using thespecific device to measure the life of that device on the batteryof the Patriot Power Generator. Please note that the wattageconsumption displayed on your Patriot Power Generator is notperfectly accurate and run times may vary from the mathematicalideal. To extend the life of your Patriot Power Generator battery, considerusing more energy-efficient devices or connecting it to solar panelsduring use.5. How do I know when my Patriot Power Generator isfully charged? To calculate how long it will take to fully charge the Patriot PowerGenerator from empty, use this formula: Capacity of the generator(768 Wh / Output power of your charging source (e.g. solar panel, hand crank, windmill, etc.) Hours needed to fully charge To ensure the Patriot Power Generator is fully charged while usingthe AC 120V charger:- Turn all power switches and buttons to the OFF position. Leavethe master power button in the ON position.- Plug the provided three-pronged AC cable into the unit, theninsert the other end into an AC outlet.- The LCD display should show a lightning symbol on the left sideof the battery charging status bar (see I).- Continue charging the Patriot Power Generator for 3.5 to 4.5hours.- After that point, the Patriot Power Generator will be finishedcharging. The LCD should show a full battery charge with nobars blinking. Note: the lightning bolt only indicates that the19

generator is plugged into a power source. It does not meanthe unit is still charging. The unit isfinished charging when the bars onthe battery indicator stop blinking. If you remove the cable from the Patriot Power Generator whileit is charging, you may need to wait one minute for the PatriotPower Generator to recalibrate and prepare to accept a chargeagain. This feature protects the battery from surges of power, harshdisconnections and over/undercharging. Charging should resumenormally. To ensure the Patriot Power Generator is optimally charged whenusing a DC 12V power source:- Ensure all power switches and buttons are in the OFF position.Leave the master power button in the ON position.- Connect the DC power source to one of the Patriot PowerGenerator's DC 12V Anderson Powerpole input ports on theback of the generator (plug black to black and red to red).- Know how much current (in Amps or Watts) is being transferredto your Patriot Power Generator through the 12V Anderson port.If you know the watts, divide 768 watt-hours by that number, and you will know how many hours it should take (with 3-30percent accuracy depending on weather conditions and physicalplacement of the panel). If you know the amps, divide 60 amphours (the full Ah capacity of the battery) by that number andyou will know how many hours it should take the Patriot PowerGenerator to charge (again, with 3-30 percent accuracy).- Let the Patriot Power Generator charge for the estimated time. When the lightning symbol disappears and the battery chargebar symbol indicates a full charge, continue to charge the unit for30 to 60 minutes (depending on sunlight conditions) to ensurethat the battery cells are optimally balanced. The Patriot PowerGenerator has a cutoff built into it that will stop current fromflowing to it after the Patriot Power Generator is fully charged.Even with this safety feature, do not leave a generator to chargeunattended. Keep the unit in a place you can monitor as youcharge the unit to ensure proper charging.- Do not attempt to charge the Patriot Power Generator beyondthe 30-60 minutes allotted to balance the battery cells. You cannot overcharge the Patriot Power Generator withoutdamaging the battery and creating an unsafe environment thatmay lead to serious injury or death. Some energy sources are more reliable than others. Know the typeof electricity and the current you are putting into your Patriot PowerGenerator. For instance, if you have a Patriot Power Generator and20

two DC 12V 100-watt solar panels, you know that when connectedto the Patriot Power Generator and in direct sunlight, the panels willgive 200 Watts of DC at 12V energy to the battery. The battery hasa capacity of 768 watt-hours, so it will take roughly 3.5–4.5 hoursof direct sunlight to charge the Patriot Power Generator. When thebattery meter indicates a full charge with no bars blinking, continueto charge the unit for 30 to 60 minutes (depending on sunlightconditions) to ensure that the battery cells are optimally balanced. Caution: The Patriot Power Generator will NOT accept a charge fromboth AC and DC sources at the same time. The AC charge alone willmax the charging capacity of your unit. If you attempt to charge theunit too quickly by adding a DC charging source, the unit will stop allcharging (AC and DC) to protect itself.6. How do I know when my Patriot Power Generator isfully discharged? The Patriot Power Generator has an LCD display that will show thewattage being used and the battery status bar. These will let youknow the status of your battery while charging or discharging. Donot attempt to discharge the Patriot Power Generator once thebattery status bar shows there is no power left. Doing so will causedamage to the unit and will void your warranty. If you have a device (such as a laptop computer with AC 120Vpower cable) connected to the Patriot Power Generator and areusing the device as it charges, the generator battery will drain morequickly. To prolong the usable life of your devices on the battery, turn them off while they charge and disconnect them from thegenerator when you are ready to use them. You should fully drainthe battery of each device and turn it off again before connecting itto the Patriot Power Generator to recharge. Leaving the device onwhile charging may give the illusion of using less energy becausethe battery of your device will show full charge, but you are in factusing almost three times the energy that you would if you were todisconnect it from the Patriot Power Generator.7. I can’t connect my solar panel to my Patriot PowerGenerator. If a Patriot Power Generator solar panel was included in your order, your solar panel will come with Anderson Powerpole connectors, which the Patriot Power Generator is specifically designed toconnect with. There are two sets of these connectors to use withany DC 12V input. These connectors are small and rectangular withone side that is red and another side that is black. Always connectblack to black and red to red.21

While the ends of the connectors may appear flat and not able toconnect to a similar connector, they are specially made to slidetogether. Simply match up the colors on the input side and pushthem together gently to form a solid connection. The solar panel connectors that fit your Patriot Power Generator areengineered only for Patriot Power Generator products. They lookvery similar and fit together easily. If you believe you have a solarpanel with a different connector that will not fit your Patriot PowerGenerator, we will be happy to send you an adapter at no additionalcost to you (once we confirm receipt of the incompatible connector). If you did not buy your solar panel from us and would like anadapter made, please contact customer service for pricing (seeContact Information on page 2).8. My Patriot Power Generator won’t charge when Iconnect my solar panels to it. Solar panels work best when pointed without obstruction directly atthe sun. The solar panel will not produce an adequate charge if it is:- Not pointed toward the sun- Placed behind a window (30-70 percent less efficient dependingon window type)- Used indoors- Positioned in shade- Not connected to the Patriot Power Generator, either directly orby using an approved extension cable.- Used with an unapproved or excessively long extension cable Please make sure the main power button is turned on. The buttonshould remain depressed and illuminate with a blue light when theunit is on. The optimum position of the solar panel is slightly angled to thesouth (if living in the Northern Hemisphere) at noon in an open area. The panel will produce less power before and after noon and atangles that are not axially tangent to the relative path of the Sun. Solar panels will produce little to no power if they are placed in ashaded area, behind a window, or next to a sun-obstructing object.Remember, shadows move, so an object that is next to the solarpanel may not create a shadow during one time of the day, but mayproduce a shadow for some or all of the rest of the day. Solar panels will produce little to no power if placed vertically orfacing down.22

9. I can’t connect all three of my solar panels to myPatriot Power Generator at the same time. The Patriot Power Generator is designed with only one Andersoninput port. To attach more than one solar panel to your generator, the panels need to be daisy-chained with the supplied wires on thepanels themselves. If you have questions about daisy chaining, orif your Anderson connector will not insert into your Patriot PowerGenerator, please contact customer service for help (see ContactInformation on page 2).10. I left my solar panel connected to a battery (not aPatriot Power Generator) overnight and now it has lesscharge than the evening before. Batteries will not gain any power from a solar panel at night. It mayeven deplete the battery if connected poorly (e.g., without a solarcharge controller or to the wrong connections). Electricity is a twoway street and will flow to and from the source and to and from thedestination depending on the current, charge, power draw, as wellas a few other factors. Unless electricity is governed and controlledwith technology
