After you’ve added location information to yourphotos, Places can also provide a better way toorganize a burgeoning photo collection. Bysimply clicking the Places tag on the Collectionspanel, you can easily drill down into yourcollection, for example, revisiting past vacationsor groups of photos taken at particular locations.Give it a tryAdding location information to photos1 In Corel PaintShop Pro X5, click the Managetab at the top of the application window.2 Click the Map Modebutton in the upperright corner of the Manage workspace.3 In the Organizer palette, select any photosthat you want to tag with location information.4 In the Search bar in the upper-right corner ofthe Map, start typing a location and chooseone from the list that appears.5 Click the Add locationbutton, and thenclick directly on the map to tag the selectedphotos with the chosen location.A location marker is added to the map, andanother marker appears in the lower-rightcorner of the photo(s).In the Collections tab, you can now click Placesto access photos that are grouped based onlocation information.New! People: With PaintShop Pro X5, you cannow use the people who appear in your photosto quickly and easily organize your collection.PaintShop Pro X5 uses facial recognition toautomatically sort people with similar featuresinto groups. This makes it a breeze to browsethrough your collection, identifying people andthen later being able to locate photos with thosepeople and automatically tag their photos whenposting to social media.You can use your social media contacts to syncwith the people tagged in your photos. HDR tools: The improvedExposure Merge now gives you more options andgreater control when you create HDR photos. Withthe new, dedicated B&W controls, it’s simple toswitch between color and black-and-white HDRprocessing. The Preview Alignment option makes iteasy to visually ensure proper positioning of yourmerged photos. The Auto Brush results have been
improved to save you time in working with photoartifacts. In addition, the Batch Merge option nowlets you apply HDR presets, so you can quickly andeasily process entire sets of photos as HDR images.With Exposure Merge, you can combine two or more bracketed photos by using HDR processing.New! Single RAW Photo: This new feature letsyou create an HDR-style effect by splitting a singleRAW photo into three exposures and thenrecombining the exposures. This process lets youcontrol the exposure of different areas of thephoto to bring out more detail.Give it a tryUsing the Single RAW Photo effect1 In the Manage workspace, select thethumbnail of a RAW photo.2 Click File HDR Single RAW Photo.The Step 1: Split Photo window opens.3 Drag the EV Interval slider to set thesimulated exposure interval.This value splits the photo into three exposures.You can also drag the Center Exposure sliderif you want the middle exposure to have a valueother than 0.Give it a try4 Click Split Photo.You can select each of the three thumbnails thatappear in the Tray to view the resultant exposures.5 When you are satisfied with the threeexposures, click Process.6 In the Step 2: HDR Adjustments window,choose one of the preset thumbnails, and clickProcess.Alternatively, you can adjust any of controls inthe Color area if you want more control overthe appearance of the merged exposures.7 In the Step 3: Fine Tune window, apply anyof the tools or adjustment options to finalizethe image.8 When you are satisfied with the results, clickSave and close.Reviewer’s Guide [ 9 ]
Get creativeWith a wealth of preset and customizableeffects, PaintShop Pro X5 gives you practicallyinexhaustible options for expressing yourcreativity.New! Graduated Filter effect: You can nowapply a semi-transparent color gradient to yourphotos which simulates the effect of using agraduated filter on a camera lens. For example,you can darken or tint a sky that appears washedout without affecting other areas of the photo.PaintShop Pro X5 includes four gradient styles, acolor picker, as well as opacity, blend, androtation controls so you can experiment until youachieve the desired effect.Give it a try4 In the Before pane, drag the line to set the sizeand direction of the gradient.5 In the Preset drop-list, choose a type of blend.6 In the Color area, click one of the colorswatches to set a color.7 In the Settings area, use the sliders to adjustany of the following: Opacity – sets the color transparency Blend – sets the gradient color transition Rotate – sets the gradient angle8 When you are satisfied with the result, click OK.New! Retro Lab: PaintShop Pro X5 introducesthe new Retro Lab, which lets you apply effectsthat were inspired by vintage-style pocketcameras, such as LOMO, Diana, or Holga. Thistrendy photo style pushes an image’s color andcontrast beyond its natural appearance, oftenwith blurred or vignette edges. More than just acollection of single-click filters, the Retro Laboffers a variety of controls that let you personalizeyour own retro style. In addition, you can saveyour settings as a custom preset for future use.The new Graduated Filter effect lets you use colorgradients to alter specific areas of a photo.Give it a tryApplying a Graduated Filter effect1 Click File Open, and navigate to the foldercontaining the photo to which you want toapply the effect, select it, and click Open.2 Click Effects Photo Effects GraduatedFilter.3 In the Graduated Filter dialog box, click aStyle button to set the shape of the gradient.The default option, Linear Graduated Filter, bestsimulates traditional graduated filters.[ 10 ] Reviewer’s GuideWith the new Retro Lab, you can create fun effects togive your photos a trendy, vintage look.
New! Instant Effects palette: Quickly selectthe right polish before you share a photo bychoosing from an array of preset effects in theInstant Effects palette. Each effect is representedby a descriptive thumbnail, which makes it easyto find the precise effect you want. The InstantEffects palette is organized by Artistic, Black AndWhite, Film Styles, Landscape, Portrait, Retro, andTraditional categories. Plus, the User Definedcategory saves the presets that you create in anydialog box, so you can quickly and easily reuseyour own personal effects.The Instant Effects palette makes it quick and easy to browse and apply preset effects.Give it a tryyou can preview the result before committing tothe effect.Applying an Instant Effect1 In the Adjust workspace, open a photo towhich you want to apply an effect.2 In the Effects palette, choose a category fromthe drop-list.3 Scroll through the list of available thumbnailsand double-click to apply an effect.Enhanced! Layer Styles: The Layers palettenow includes a Layer Styles button, which makesit easier to access and apply Bevel, Drop Shadow,Emboss, Inner Glow, Outer Glow, and Reflectionstyles. A range of new controls, such as size,opacity, and color, for each Layer Style make iteasier to achieve the precise look you want. Enhanced! Crop tool: The Crop tool nowoffers greater flexibility so you can more easilyachieve the image focus and dimensions that youwant. By default, the Crop tool provides a Rule ofThirds gird to help you with image composition.In addition, you can perform a preset crop bychoosing from a range of common image sizes,such as 16 9, 8 10, 5 7, and more. You canalso define your own crop area and save it as acustom preset.Enhanced! Text tool: The Text tool has beenenhanced to give you more intuitive textselection, which makes editing and formattingtext easier than ever before. You can also positiontext more quickly and accurately now thanks toimproved interaction between the Text tool andthe Pick tool.Enhanced! Your family andfriends will be able to view the route you’vetravelled. They can even zoom in on the GoogleMap to check out Street View for a closer look atwhere you’ve been. Prior to sharing your trip, youcan use the Info panel to add captions to eachphoto that you place on the map, sharinganecdotes or interesting tales about your voyage.Enhanced! Sharing options: PaintShop Pro X5provides enhanced social media integration, whichlets you upload photos simultaneously to yourFacebook , Flickr , and Google accounts.
