Theregistration window will open for Southeast Guilford Middle School from Wednesday, March 17th to Friday,March 26th. Parents/guardians may review their son’s/daughter’s 2021-2022 course requests by accessingthe PowerSchool Parent Portal. It introduces and reinforcesthe beginning elements of grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation, with anemphasis on listening, speaking, reading and writing. An introduction to thehistory and culture of Spanish-speaking countries is presented throughlanguage instruction. *Successful completion of Spanish IB in 8th grade is requiredChorus 7Every Week (Yearlong)This is a course which is open to all interested seventh-graders. Students begin amore in-depth study of vocal technique and choral literature. Students areencouraged to participate in local, regional and statewide festivals. Groups areinvolved in performance-related activities throughout the school year.Band 7Every Week (Yearlong)This is a course in which students continue to build on skills taught in Band 6.Previous experience is preferred. The musical literature, techniques andconcepts studied reflect an intermediate level. Students are encouraged toparticipate in local, regional and statewide festivals. Emphasis is placed on brainstorming, visualizing,modeling, testing, and refining designs. Students develop skills in researchinginformation, communicating design information, and reporting results. Activitiesare structured to integrate physical and social sciences, mathematics, Englishlanguage arts, and art. Technology Student Association (TSA) competitive events,community service, and leadership activities provide the opportunity to applyessential standards and workplace readiness skills through authenticexperiences.This new music program utilizes popular music as means to teach Music as a SecondLanguage. Modern Band teaches students to perform the music they know & love and tocompose and improvise.
