Watchman, What of the Night? In Biblical times, an ancient city was protected by its massive walls and its alert watchmen. Thewatchmen’s duty was to sound the alarm if anything threatening to the city’s safety was sightedoutside the city walls. But the watchmen had another responsibility as well. It was the watchmen’s job to know what time it was. Throughout the night, citizens could call out to the watchmen,“Watchman, what of the night?” This question meant, “What time is it?” And a good watchmanwould always be able to faithfully tell the time. Spiritually, we are all called to be watchmen. Thismeans that we should know what time it is, prophetically speaking. Discerning the times requiresan understanding of Yahweh’s holy Appointed Times, Sabbatical Years and Jubilees.“He calleth to me out of Seir, Watchman, what of the night? Watchman, whatof the night?” Isaiah 21:11

According tothe Strong’s Concordance, kairosrefers to “set times”. And sincethe context is clearly refering toYahweh’s people who walk inlight and not darkness, these “settimes” must be Yahweh’s Appointed Times. But the Greek wordmeanings are somewhat vague, ascompared to these same terms inHebrew. The Old Testament (whichis translated from Hebrew) references to “times” and “seasons” aremuch more clearly defined (see theyellow panel on the right).(continued.)v. Dec. FEATURE6Sabbatical Years and the Last JubileeWhat do the Feasts ofYahweh have to do withthe Saviour’s Return andthe End of the World? The same Hebrew word(mo’ed, #4150), whichis translated as “feasts”(Leviticus 23) and“seasons” (Gen. 1:14),appears in Daniel 8:19and in Daniel 11:35. Inboth of these cases, theword mo’ed is translatedas “appointed time” andspecifically referencesthe “end of the world”.prophet Daniel that theworld would end (andYahshua would return)on a Feast Day—specifically the first Day ofTabernacles, which prophetically points to thetime when Yah dwellswith man. Clearly, theAppointed Times ofYahweh do indeedpinpoint the Day ofYahshua’s Return. Butwhat about the year? One must know theyear also, if Yahshua’sReturn is not to come asa surprise.“.Behold, I will makethee know what shallbe in the last End of theIndignation: for at theTime Appointed the Endshall be.”Daniel 8:19In plain English, Yahwehtold us, through theYahshua will Return on the First Sabbath of Tabernacles—This is the Day, foretold by the “Seasons” of YahwehActually, God has appointed far more thanannual Holy Days aloneas set times for prophetic events. Yahwehhas given us a cycle ofSabbatical Years andJubilees. Since ancienttimes, it has long beenknown that our Kingwill come on the finalJubilee. Thus, if one canpinpoint the year of thefinal Jubilee, one canrightly identify the yearof Yahshua’s Return. Before we proceedon this, we must firstaddress the questionof whether or notwe should know theyear. This is especiallydifficult to deal with because most of us havebeen deeply ingrainedwith the idea that weIs the Jubilee Cycle 49 Years or 50 Years? How Can We Determine the Timing of the Next Jubilee?Sabbatical Years and the Last Jubilee“And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all theland unto all the inhabitants thereof: it shall be a JUBILEE unto you; and ye shallreturn every man unto his possession, and ye shall return every man unto his family.” Leviticus 25:10years apart. This claim is because the Book of Jubilees makesthe 50th year of the Jubilee cycle the first year of the nextJubilee cycle. But this cannot be the correct way to calculateJubilees, as it is not the original way. The older way, according to the Encyclopedia Judaica, was in use when Solomon’sTemple (the first Temple) stood. Originally, Jubilees werecalculated by adding 50 years to the last Jubilee date, not 49.“Why are the Jews confused (about Jubilee timing)? BeThat brings us to the next issue: are Jubilees calculated bycause they did not obey God. They admit that when theadding 49 years, or by adding 50 years to the date of a known First Temple stood, full fifty-year cycles were used.”Jubilee? The Book of Jubilees indicates that Jubilees are 49(Encyclopedia Judaica, Vol 2. pp 579-580)How does one go about calculating the next Jubilee? Thereare two issues which much be considered in order to correctly calculate the future Jubilee. First, one must know—beyond question—the year of at least one past Jubilee. TheJubilee Year which we will be using will be the year of Christ’sCrucifxion. Once this year is nailed down, it is a simple matterof addition to arrive at any future Jubilee. The Lighted Way News Magazine Issue 3

The Lighted Way News Magazinecan’t know the timing of HisReturn. Yet, the Scripturalprophecy in 1 Thessalonians5:1-6 clearly tells us that wenot only can know it, but wewill know it, if indeed we arechildren of the Light. Not onlyis it plainly stated that we willknow the timing of Yahshua’sSecond Coming, it is also indicated in the prophetic types. For example, in the prophetictype of the watchmen, as wehave already seen, the watchman must know the time. Inaddition, we are propheticallycalled to be Christ’s Bride. Andwhat bride does not know thetiming of her wedding? Andthen, of course, there’s theJubilees. What would be thepoint of establishing the structure of the Jubilees if Yahwehdidn’t intend to fulfill themwith His Return? So where did the idea comefrom that we couldn’t orshouldn’t look into the timingof Yahshua’s Return? Manyhave misunderstood Yahshua’sWords in Matthew 24:36:literal term, it is a figureof speech.literally. So what does itmean? There are many figuresof speech, also knownas “idioms” in Scripture. For example, when theWord tells us that Yahweh owns the cattle ona thousand hills (Psalms50:10), it isn’t intendedto be taken literally.Does He not also ownthe cattle on the 1001sthill? Of course He does! The number 1000 isa Hebrew idiom. Itmeans “complete, allencompassing”. In otherwords, saying that Yahweh owns the cattle ona thousand hills actually means that Yahwehowns everything. In the same way, theexpression “no manknows the day or thehour” cannot be understood correctly, if takenThe Feast of Trumpetstakes place on the NewMoon of the Seventhmonth. The timing ofthis Feast dictates thetiming of all the Feastsof the Seventh Biblicalmonth because the restof them are calculatedby counting from theFeast of Trumpets. As Avi Ben Morchechaiexplains, the expression“no man knows the dayor the hour” is an idiomreferring to the Feastof Trumpets. Since onedidn’t know which daythis Feast would actually fall upon (withoutsighting the new moonsliver in the sky) thisFeast came to be referred to in this manner. But it never meant thatend-time watchmenTITLEFeatureshouldn’t study the timingof the King’s Return! Such aconcept ignores huge chunksof Bible prophey—all for oneterribly misunderstood verse!By misunderstanding Matthew24:36, we end up ignoringevery other time prophecyin Scripture. In so doing, welose our ability to be effectivewatchmen who know the hourof the night. Thus, as we nearthe Seventh Biblical Month ofthis year, which kicks off withthe Feast of Trumpets—alsoknown as the Feast of theWatchman, it is appropriateto discern the prophetic timeswith respect to the SabbaticalYears and Jubilee Years cycle. The Jubilee template is thesecond vital key which mustbe joined with the timing ofthe Annual Sabbaths to discernYahweh’s “times” and “seasons”(continued.)“But of that day and hourknoweth no man, no, not theangels of Heaven, but My Father only.”Understanding the expression“No man knows the day orhour” is not possibleby simply taking the Englishtranslation literally. In his bookSigns In the Heavens, Avi BenMordechai explains what “noman knows the day or hour”truly means from a Hebraicperspective. Rather than being aWe know that Messiah was Crucified in a Jubilee Year because of Luke 4:18-19. HereHe read from Isaiah’s Jubilee prophecy proclaiming freedom to the captives. FEATURE88Sabbatical Years and the Last JubileeAs we addressed (in theyellow box) on page 6of this article, the wayJubilees were calculated when Solomon’sTemple stood was byadding 50 years—not49. Since Solomon’sTemple was indwelt byYah’s visible Presence(Shekinah Glory), it isa fair assumption tobelieve that Solomonknew how to correctlycalculate Jubilees.the Sabbath and reading from the scroll ofIsaiah (Isaiah 61:1-2). Theprophecy He read wasregarding the “acceptable year of Yahweh”,which is a Jubilee reference.Yahshua read the portions of this Passagewhich pertained to setting the captives at liberty (a Jubilee promise)and being anointed byYahweh to preach goodNext, to determinetidings to the meek.the final Jubilee, weBut He stopped readingmust nail down a pastbefore finishing IsaiahJubilee, from which61:2. He did not readto add 50’s. There is athe part of the prophgreat deal of argument ecy which foretold theabout which years were “Day of Vengence”. ThatJubilees. Some say the portion of the Jubileeyear of the Exodus was prophecy was not to bea Jubilee. Others claim fulfilled in the year of Histhat Israel’s first year of Crucifixion. That poroccupation in Canaanwas a Jubilee. There isonly one historical yearthat is known to be aJubilee—without question: the year of Christ’sCrucifixion.tion of Isaiah’s prophecywill be fulfilled in the finalJubilee, which will indeedbe the day of setting thecaptives at liberty and theDay of Vengence of ourGod.“The spirit of Yahweh GODis upon Me; because Yahweh hath anointed Me topreach good tidings untothe meek; He hath sentMe to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaimliberty to the captives, andthe opening of the prisonto them that are bound; To proclaim the Acceptable Year of Yahweh, andthe Day of Vengeance ofour God; to comfort allthat mourn,”Isaiah 61:1-2But while most Biblescholars agree thatYahshua died on a Jubilee year, there is a tremendous amountof disagreement about pinpointing the precise year of Yahshua’sdeath. Some say the Crucifixiontook place in 33 AD, others sayit was 31 AD. At first, it appearsthat calculating Jubilees by theCrucifixion year will be impossible. But actually, there is a tremendous amount of evidence toshow that 28 AD was the year ofYahshua’s Crucifixion—therebypinpointing 28 AD as the Jubileeyear, from which to calculatefuture Jubilee years.Because Scripture tells us thatJohn the Baptist was baptizing inthe Jordan River in 27 AD (whichwas the 15th Year of Tiberius’reign - Luke 3:1), and becausemost Christians believe Yahshuaministered for 3.5 years, theidea of 28 AD being the year ofthe Crucifixion seems impossible. But actually, YahshuaSabbatical Years and the Last JubileeThe Acceptable Year of YahwehWe know that Yahshuadied in a Jubilee yearbecause He had cometo set the captives free, fulfilling the Jubileeprophecies (all butone). In addition, wehave the Saviour’sOwn Testimony plainlystating that it was aJubilee. In Luke 4:1819, we find the story ofYahshua standing upin the Synagogue onThe Lighted Way News Magazine Issue 328 AD

The Lighted Way News Magazineministered for 490 Days, which applied figuratively as years (Numbers 14:34) inthe first fulfillment and literally as exactly 490 days in the life and ministry ofMessiah. This was just as Yah foretold through His prophet Daniel:“ Seventy weeks are determined upon Thy people and upon Thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation foriniquity. And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off,”Daniel 9:24-26The second prophecy to support a one year ministry of Messiah is the prophecy of the Passover Lamb. Every part of the shadow picture of the lamb wasfulfilled in Christ. The lamb was without spot or blemish (Exodus 12:5) becauseour Saviour was sinless and without anyimpurity. The Passover lamb had to bemale (Exodus 12:5), because Yahshua wasa Man. The lamb’s blood was shed on the14th day of Abib (Passover) (Exodus 12:6),because our Saviour’s Blood would beshed on this precise day.Every part of the Passover lamb prophecywas fulfilled in Messiah. Yet, we oftenforget the age of the Passover lamb. According to Exodus 12:5, the Passover lambhad to be a male lamb of the first year(meaning it was not yet two years old).Yahshua fulfilled this part of the prophecyalso—not in dying before the age of twoyears old, of course—but in holding therole of Passover Lamb for 490 literal days(which is under two years). In other words, from the moment that John the Baptist proclaimed Yahshua tobe the “Lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world” until the time ofYahshua’s Death, Yahshua was the Passover Lamb. This period of time was justa little over one year—fulfilling the 1 year part of the Passover lamb prophecy.Yahshua was 30 years old, of course. But His role as the Passover Lamb beganwith John’s pronouncement at His baptism. Yahshua’s role as our PassoverLamb concluded with His Death, literally just over a year later.“The next day John seeth Yahshua coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lambof God, which taketh away the sin of the world. ” John 1:29Josephus, Eusebius and numerous other early Christian historians—and eventhe disciples themselves—wrote of Yahshua’s one year ministry and plainlystated that 28 AD was indeed a Jubilee year. For the purpose of this article, several of these quotations are listed in the grey column on the right. Thus, wecan definitively state that 28 AD was the year of Yahshua’s Crucifixion—andwas inequivocally a Jubilee. We now have a point for calculation (continued.)Feature9The apostle Peter believed in andtaught a one-year ministry of Messiah:“Why did our Teacher abide anddiscourse a whole year to those whowere awake?” (Peter, quoted in TheClementine Homilies)Eusebius (the ‘father of church history’ in the early Christian era), said28/29 A.D. was a Jubilee year.According to William Whiston’sfootnotes to Josephus, 24 B.C. was aSabbatical year, and 23 B.C. was a Jubilee year. This would mean that A.D.27 was a Sabbatical year, and A.D. 28was a Jubilee year. (B. Z. Wacholder,“The Calendar of Sabbatical Cycles Duringthe Second Temple and the Early Rabbinic Period,” HUCA 44 (1973), and “TheCalendar of Sabbath Years During theSecond Temple Era: A Response,” HUCA54, 1983)Did you ever wonder why there wereso many people hanging around(with apparently nothing to do) tohear John the Baptist preach andwhy there were so many crowdsavailable to listen to Christ’s sermons? Could it be that Josephus wasright? Could it be that John beganpreaching in 27 AD—and that it wasa Sabbatical year? If so, no farmerswere planting or harvesting. In a Jubilee cycle, the 7th Sabbatical year isimmediately followed by the Jubilee. There would have been two nonplanting years back-to-back.“Moreover, they (the followers of theWay) affirm that He suffered in thetwelfth month (of His ministry), sothat He continued to preach for oneyear after His baptism.” Irenæus,Against Heresies: Book I, Chapter XXIIThe Lighted Way News Magazine

FEATURE10Sabbatical Years and the Final Jubilee. So, with 28 AD as the Jubilee in which our Saviour Died, and with the older calculation method of adding 50 foreach Jubilee cycle, we are ready to calculate the next Jubilee. But before we lay that out plainly, we need to addone more vital detail to the picture. Actually, the next Jubilee is bigger than just being another Jubilee. The next Jubilee is the final Jubilee—the one which Isaiah foretold would be the Day of Vengence of our God and the ultimatetime in which the land (earth) would be restored to its original owner (Yahweh), as is foreshadowed in the Jubileepromises (Leviticus 25:3-13).Yahweh gave a powerful prophecy in Genesis 6:3. Prophecies have literal and figurative levels of fulfillment. Mosthave understood Genesis 6:3 in a literal application. But this prophecy also applies figuratively, in numbering theJubilee cycles.“My Spirit shall not always strive with man. His days shall be one hundred and twenty.” Genesis 6:3“And as it was in the days of Noe (Noah), so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man.” Luke 17:26“Noah preached to the people of his time that God would give them one hundred and twenty years in which to repent of their sins and find refuge in the ark; but they refused the gracious invitation.” RH, October 20, 1885Since with Yahweh one day is as a thousand years (2 Peter 3:8), 120 Jubilee cycles brings us to a total of one week ofYahweh’s Time:50 (years in a Jubilee cycle)x 120 (total Jubilee cycles) 6000 (years)6000 years 120 Jubileesth7000 year Sabbath—The Millennium, in which the land restsHere are some more interesting ways the Jubilees group together:40 Jubilees—from Adam to Abraham40 Jubilees—from Abraham to Yahshua 40 Jubilees—from Yahshua to the Final Jubilee 120 JubileesPaul refers to the groupings of Jubilees, labeling each epoch. The first 50 Jubilees, from Adam to Moses, Paul calledthe Reign of Death (Romans 5:12-14 & 17-21). And the final 70 Jubilees, from Moses to the End of the World, Paulcalled the Reign of Grace through Righteousness unto Eternal Life. This yields the following Jubilee groupings:Sabbatical Years and the Final Jubilee50 Jubilees from Adam to Moses “The Reign of Death”70 Jubilees from Moses to the Final Jubilee 120 Jubilees“The Reign of Grace ThroughRighteousness unto Eternal Life”What is most exciting about this is not just the realization that Yahweh has appointed a total of 120 Jubilee cycles tomankind (during the time of sin) but also that there have been already exactly 119 Jubilees since Adam! This meansthat the next Jubilee is the 120th, or last Jubilee, in which our King will return! So when is the next Jubilee? Calculating 50-year cycles from 28 AD (the year of the Crucifixion) brings us to 2028 (see the grey sidebar on the next page). There is one more powerful time prophecy to consider, which only adds verification to this very exciting picture. The prophet Hosea referred to the time when Yahshua would die. He also foretold that from that point, it would betwo days more and then, in the third day, we would dwell in Yahweh’s Sight. Remembering 2 Peter 3:8—which tellsus that a day 1000 years— 2028 is two thousand years (2 days), precisely, from the year of the Crucifixion. And inthe third “day” we truly will dwell in His Sight! The prophecy is found in Hosea 6:1-3.The Lighted Way News Magazine Issue 3

FeatureThe Lighted Way New Magazine“Come, and let us return unto Yahweh: for He hath torn (Yahshua took our stripesupon Himself at Calvary), and He will heal us (by His Stripes, we are healed); Hehath smitten, and He will bind us up. After two days will He revive us: in the thirdday He will raise us up, and we shall live in His Sight.” Hosea 6:1-3This amazing time prophecy fits in perfectly with Daniel 9:24-26, which foretellsthat Messiah would be cut off in the midst of the week. This happened literally, and prophetically, in that the history of earth including the final millenium isone week of Yahweh’s time (1 day being 1000 years). It also fits the time prophecy of Habakkuk as shown in the table below:Creation“ O Yahweh, revive Thy Workin the midst of theyears, in the midstof the years makeknown.”CalvaryHabakkuk 3:2Day 1Day 2Day 3“Yahweh hath torn, Jubileeand He will heal us. MilleniumAfter two days willHe revive us: in thethird day.we shalllive in His Sight.”Hosea 6:1-2Day 4Day 5Day 6Day 7In the cycle of Jubilees, Yahweh has established seven periods of seven years. The seventh year in each cycle is a Sabbatical year, called a Shemittah year inHebrew. When seven cycles of Sabbaticals are complete, 49 years will havetranspired. The fiftieth year, which is the Jubilee, follows the final Shemittahyear (49th year) of the cycle.“And thou shalt number seven Sabbaths of years unto thee, seven times sevenyears; and the space of the seven Sabbaths of years shall be unto thee forty andnine years. And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof: it shall be a Jubilee unto you;and ye shall return every man unto his possession.” Leviticus 25:8-10If indeed 28 AD was the Crucifixion year, than 2028 is the 120th Jubilee. Thismeans that we are currently in the 7 years of preparation, foreshadowed inthe time of Joseph. Unless we are prayerfully preparing now, the terrible timeof dearth (years shown in red below) will come upon us catching us unprepared. So, we ask you, “Watchman! We need to consider theSabbatical-year cycle, which is part of the Jubilee cycle. In the time of Joseph,Yahweh’s Sabbatical-year cycle was a big factor in the story of the 7 years ofpreparation followed by the 7 years of dearth / famine.11
