Each of the 56 frontSmall Form-Factor Pluggable (SFP ) portscan function as dual-speed 1/10 GbE ports. The Brocade ICX 6650 also provides six QuadSmall Form-Factor Pluggable (QSFP ) portsin the back, including two 4 10 GbE breakoutports and four high-speed 40 GbE ports foruplink network connectivity, making it aflexible solution for environments of any size.By enabling 1/10 GbE and 40 GbE portsin a 1U space, the Brocade ICX 6650 givesorganizations the high density they needto design highly flexible networks whileconserving valuable rack space. In addition, they can utilize multiple combinations ofshort-range and long-range transceiversfor a variety of connectivity options.Increased Reliability throughRedundancy and IntelligenceThe Brocade ICX 6650 includes dual-internalredundant power supplies. These powersupplies are hot-swappable and load-sharingwith auto-sensing and auto-switchingcapabilities, which are critical for powerredundancy and deployment flexibility(see Figure 1).The hot-swappable power supplies and fanassembly allow organizations to replacecomponents without service disruption. Inaddition, several high-availability andfault-detection features help in failover ofcritical data flows, enhancing overall systemavailability and reliability. Organizationscan use Brocade Network Advisor andFigure 1.The Brocade ICX 6650 features dualhot-swappable power supplies and fans.sFlow-based network monitoring andtrending to proactively monitor risk areasand optimize network resources.Brocade Multi-Chassis Trunking (MCT)supports dual homing of servers in a rack totwo Brocade ICX 6650 switches in an MCT peergroup, eliminating the risk of a single pointof failure. In conjunction with MCT, VRRP-E(the Brocade extension to VRRP for MCT)provides redundancy and sub-second failoverfor both Layer 2 and Layer 3. For metro orcampus deployments in a ring topology, theBrocade Metro Ring Protocol (MRP-I andMRP-II) prevents Layer 2 loops and enablesfaster re-convergence than Spanning TreeProtocol (STP) with sub-second failover.GREENER DATA CENTERS WITHLOWER TCOAs application data and storagerequirements continue to rise exponentially, demand for higher port density andbandwidth grows, along with the number ofnetwork devices and power consumption.Organizations seeking to reduce TCO needsolutions that can provide higher scalabilityand density per rack unit, thereby reducingpower consumption and heat dissipation. The Brocade ICX 6650 addresses thoseneeds with a state-of-the-art ASIC, reversibleairflow, automatic fan-speed control, andpower-efficient optics to ensure the mostefficient use of power and cooling. Forlow-cost, low-latency, and low-energyconsuming (0.1 watts) cabling within andbetween the racks, the Brocade ICX 6650supports SFP Direct Attach Copper(Twinax) cables at up to 5 meters. Forswitch-to-switch connectivity, the BrocadeICX 6650 supports low-power-consumingSFP and 40GBASE-SR4 QSFP opticaltransceivers at up to 100 meters. Inhigh-port-density deployments, thesefeatures save significant operating costs.SUPERIOR ROI ANDINVESTMENT PROTECTIONThe Brocade ICX 6650 combines strategicperformance, availability, and scalabilityadvantages with investment protection forexisting LAN environments. It utilizes thesame Brocade FastIron operating systemused by other Brocade Ethernet/IP products. This helps ensure full forward and backwardcompatibility among the product familywhile simplifying software maintenanceand field upgrades. Moreover, the use of the same industrystandard Command Line Interface (CLI)eliminates the need for staff retraining. As a result, the Brocade ICX 6650 enablesorganizations to better leverage their currenttraining, tools, devices, and processes.Brocade enables organizations to furthermaximize their investments by not requiringadditional licensing fees for advancedLayer 3 features, including IPv6 routing.SIMPLIFIED, STANDARDS-BASEDMANAGEMENTDeploying more switches in a data centerinfrastructure can increase overall networkperformance, but it also can preventorganizations from gaining a complete viewof network capacity, bandwidth consumption, utilization, and overall health. To overcome this challenge, the Brocade ICX6650 utilizes sFlow, a unique solution thathelps simplify network management and

monitoring. By providing real-time visibilityinto the network, sFlow helps organizationseffectively manage transactions flowingthroughout the network. This openstandards-based approach integrates with awide range of management, monitoring, andtrending utilities. For example, organizationscan use Brocade Network Advisor to manageall Brocade data center Ethernet/IP switchesand routers, including Brocade VDX switches, Brocade TurboIron 24X Switches,Brocade ICX switches, Brocade FCX Seriesswitches, Brocade ServerIron ADX Seriesapplication delivery switches, and BrocadeMLXe Core Routers. The Brocade ICX 6650 also supports theIEEE 802.1AB LLDP standard, enablingorganizations to build open, converged, and advanced multivendor networks. LLDPgreatly simplifies and enhances networkmanagement, asset management, andnetwork troubleshooting. With the resulting insight, organizationscan quickly and accurately review overalldata center operations, identify hot spots, and quickly diagnose and troubleshootissues before they develop into widespreadproblems. The Brocade ICX 6650 alsoprovides accurate SNMP/RMON statisticsto Brocade Network Advisor, reducing theadministrative burden normally associatedwith proactive network management, design, and capacity planning.PURPOSE-BUILT FEATURE SETThe Brocade ICX 6650 combines awide range of unique features to helporganizations overcome the mostchallenging business requirements.Industry-Leading Advanced Layer 2and Layer 3 FeaturesTo provide self-healing topologies in Layer 2configurations, the Brocade ICX 6650 supportsindustry-standard Ethernet protocols, including multiple varieties of STP and linkaggregation as well as optic-, link-, andswitch-level fault detection and correctionfeatures.
