BROCADE CAMPUS FABRICTECHNOLOGYBrocade Campus Fabric technologybrings campus networks into the modernera to better support seamless wirelessmobility, security, and ease of applicationdeployment. This innovative technologycollapses multiple network layers into asingle logical switch, flattening the networkand eliminating deployment complexitywhile simplifying network managementand reducing operating costs.Brocade Campus Fabric technologyenables organizations to build networksthat deliver: Consolidated management: Reducesunnecessary network layers to createlarge management domains thateliminate individual switch touch points, reducing maintenance time and costs. Shared network services: Allowspremium and entry-level switches tomesh together into a single logicalswitch and share advanced Layer 2/3services, delivering lower price-per-portfunctionality without compromisingperformance. Scale-out networking: Integrates high-performance, fixed form-factor switchesto create a single distributed logicalswitch that is independent of physicallocation and allows organizations to addports whenever and wherever neededacross the campus without addingcomplexity.Figure 1: Up to 12 Brocade ICX 7450 switches can be stacked together using two full-duplexQSFP 40 Gbps ports that provide a fully redundant backplane with 960 Gbps of stacking bandwidth. The Brocade ICX 7450 also offers a lowcost entry point. By providing the flexibilityof a stackable switch, the Brocade ICX 7450saves organizations from having to invest ina costly chassis upfront and tie up valuablecapital. Instead, they can buy a singleBrocade ICX 7450 Switch to get startedand add new Brocade ICX 7450 Switchesto the stack as their business grows.Brocade Campus Fabric Technology:Extending Options and ScalabilityBrocade Campus Fabric technology, offered for Brocade ICX 7250*, 7450, and7750 Switches, extends network optionsand scalability. It integrates premiumBrocade ICX 7750, midrange BrocadeICX 7450, and entry-level BrocadeICX 7250 Switches, collapsing networkaccess, aggregation, and core layers intoa single logical switch. This logical deviceshares network services while reducingmanagement touch points and networkhops through a single-layer designspanning the entire campus network. These powerful deployments deliverequivalent or better functionality thanlarge, rigid modular chassis systems, butwith significantly lower costs and smallercarbon footprints.Brocade ICX switches support aDistributed Chassis deployment modelthat uses standards-based optics andcabling interface connections to helpensure maximum distance betweencampus switches—up to 80 km—andminimum cabling costs—up to 50 percentless than incumbent solutions. This givesorganizations the flexibility to deliverports wherever they are needed oncampus at a fraction of the cost. The Distributed Chassis design futureproofs campus networks by allowingnetworks to easily and cost-effectivelyexpand in scale and capabilities.Flexible, Long-Distance Stackingfor the Most DemandingEnterprise EnvironmentsBrocade Ethernet switch stackingtechnology makes it possible to stack upto 12 Brocade ICX 7450 Switches togetherinto a single logical switch using standardQSFP or SFP stacking ports. Thisallows the Brocade ICX 7450 to deliver aclass-leading 960 Gbps of aggregatedstacking bandwidth and offer simple androbust expandability for future growth atthe network edge (see Figure 1).A selection of standard QSFP or SFP copper cables or standard QSFP orSFP optics can be used to stack BrocadeICX 7450 Switches together, enablingstacking over distance and therebyeliminating the need for stacked switchesto be colocated in the same wiring closet. This stacked logical switch also has only asingle IP address to simplify managementand offers transparent STP-free trafficforwarding and shared Link AggregationGroups (LAG) across a pool of up to576 1 GbE ports and 48 10 GbE ports. When new switches join the stack, theyautomatically inherit the stack’s existing* Support on the Brocade ICX 7250 to be available in a future release.2
