INTRODUCTIONThis publication is intended to help you understand and interpret entries on the driving recordsavailable from Oregon Driver and Motor Vehicle Services (DMV).RECORD TYPESThere are four types of driving records available: Certified court prints; nonemployment drivingrecords; nonemployment, open-ended driving records; and employment driving records. The certified court print driving record includes most traffic violations and accidententries for at least the previous five years. Serious criminal traffic offenses, such asdriving under the influence of intoxicants, may remain on the record permanently. The nonemployment driving record has entries for at least the previous three years.This record lists all nonemployment-related accidents, convictions, suspensions,cancellations, revocations, and diversion agreements. The nonemployment, open-ended driving record contains the same information as anonemployment driving record but is not limited to three years and is available only forthe purpose of providing insurance discount to an individual. The employment driving record is a three-year record that is limited to convictions andaccidents the driver had while on the job.For each record type there are two versions of the record available: (1) a version containingthe driver’s personal information and (2) a version that has the driver’s personal informationremoved (sanitized). Personal information is removed from a record if a requestor does notqualify to receive it under Oregon’s Record Privacy Law (ORS 802.175-802.191) or does nothave a written, notarized permission slip from the individual whose information is requested.Personal information is: driver license, driver permit or identification number; name; address;and telephone number.Under Oregon’s Record Privacy Law, only certain qualified entities are allowed to receivepersonal information. These include such entities as attorneys, legitimate businesses,insurance companies, police agencies, and other government agencies. See the Records,Privacy & Account Holders section on the DMV website (www.oregondmv.com) for additionalinformation.FIXED ENTRIESFixed entries generally include information we record for each driver/customer, such as name,address, and date of birth. This portion of the record also contains information about anyidentification card or Oregon driving privilege the person holds, as well as endorsements,restrictions, and expiration dates.VARIABLE ENTRIESVariable entries are those that make up an individual’s driving history, such as accidents,convictions, suspensions, revocations, cancellations, and other administrative actions. Variableentries may also include information about the type(s) of license, permit, and/or endorsementthe person holds (or has held in the past).1

DRIVING RECORD EXAMPLESCERTIFIED COURT PRINT DRIVING )(r)(l)(q)This is a certified court print that includes convictions for traffic crimes, commercial driver license entries,diversion agreements, and alcohol rehabilitation entries; convictions for minor offenses and accidents will showfor at least five years. Suspensions, cancellations, and revocations also are included, along with miscellaneousadministrative entries and multiple status entries. It may also contain some out-of-state commercial driver entries.The example shown above is displayed as a sanitized record, without the name, address, and driver licensenumber.2

NONEMPLOYMENT DRIVING )(i)(q)(n)NAMEADDRESSCITY STATE ZIPThis is a certified three-year record that includes Oregon accidents, diversion agreements, and convictions otherthan those in the employment driving record. The record may contain some commercial driver license entries,some out-of-state commercial entries, miscellaneous administrative entries, and multiple status entries.The example shown above is displayed as a sanitized record, without the name, address, and driver licensenumber.3

NONEMPLOYMENT OPEN-ENDED DRIVING )(q)(i)(n)This record is available only to an insurer, insurance support organization, and the person to whom the recordpertains for the purpose of providing a discount to the individual. It contains the same information as anonemployment driving record but is not limited to three years.The example shown above is displayed as a sanitized record, without the name, address, and driver licensenumber.4

The following entries show the formats that Oregon uses to post accidents to driving records. The firstformat is an example of an accident occurring in Oregon. Future responsibility must be filed and maintained for threeyears with DMV by persons suspended for the following reasons: uninsured accident, fail to furnishproof of insurance, driving uninsured, and false certification.Future responsibility filings are also required at the end of mandatory suspensions or revocationsissued by a court or DMV. These include traffic crimes such as reckless endangerment, menacing,criminal mischief, failure to perform the duties of a driver in an accident, reckless driving, DUII, etc
