Diagnostic Microbiology Rotation-421: Studies the clinical aspects of infectious diseases, including bacteriology, mycology, parasitology, and medical virology. The course includesspecimen collection and handling, normal flora, and expected pathogens for various regionsof the body. The course also examines the pathogenesis, clinical syndromes, epidemiology, treatment, and laboratory identification of each microorganism. Laboratory emphasizes theperformance and interpretation of appropriate tests used to identify commonly encounteredmicroorganisms in the clinical microbiology laboratory.Clinical Microbiology-314: The course aims to introduce students to fundamentals ofdiagnostic microbiology. Emphasis will be placed on bacteriology techniques commonlyencountered in the clinical laboratory including staining methods, sterilization, aseptictechniques, bacterial growth, morphology identification, understanding normal flora fromdifferent body sites and the isolation and identification of bacterial pathogens and usage ofcommon media.Parasitology -322: The course aims to introduce to the students the parasites associated withinfectious diseases and to the laboratory skills required for the diagnosis of parasiticinfections from clinical specimens. The medical technologists have a major role in thediagnosis of parasitic infections.Postgraduate#Course/Rotation TitleNo./Code123Communication SkillsMicrobiology & ParasitologyPathology andMolecular Basis ofDiseaseML 822ML 833ML 821Extent of Contribution(no. of lectures/Tutorials. The student should also gainproficiency in the management of medical microbiology and parasitology laboratories. Bythe end of the course the candidate should be able to know in detail the microbiological andparasitological investigation procedures and undertakes efficient organization and functionof microbiology and parasitology laboratories and to gain familiarity with the epidemiology, control, prevention and other special problems with respect to endemic parasitic diseases inSaudi Arabia through understanding the life cycle of common parasites in the Kingdom.Course Coordination
