THE COMMUNITY OF ST. MARK, CATONSVILLE, MDDear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,The word, humility, finds its origin in the Latin word, humus, which means the ground or the earth. Spiritual authors suggest thata humble person is GROUNDED in honesty and reality. The author, Ben Sirach advised his followers to accept themselves as theyare and the author of Hebrews stresses we all share in God's love. The practice of a daily examination of conscience is a wonderfulinstrument for any person to grow in humility. On this Labor Day weekend, many of us will recall the practice of making a Morning Offering to the Lord. One offered God the“prayers, works, joys, and sacrifices" of each day. Christ invites us to work in the Lord's vineyard. Modern schedules (work, volunteer commitments, religious obligations - to name a few) can be demanding. Dedicating each day to the Lord can become asource of inspiration for one to persevere in the vineyard and to become more aware that Christ works beside us.In Our Lord,Fr. WhatleyThe second collection next weekend is for Maintenance. Please be generous.Readings for the Week of September 1, 2019Sun: Sir 3:17-18, 20, 28-29/Ps 68/Heb 12:18-19, 22-24a/Lk 14:1, 7-14Mon: 1 Thes 4:13-18/Ps 96/Lk 4:16-30Tue: 1 Thes 5:1-6, 9-11/Ps 27/Lk 4:31-37Wed: Col 1:1-8/Ps 52/Lk 4:38-44Thu: Col 1:9-14/Ps 98/Lk 5:1-11Fri: Col 1:15-20/Ps 100/Lk 5:33-39Sat: Col 1:21-23/Ps 54/Lk 6:1-5Next Sunday: Wis 9:13-18b/Ps 90/Phlm 9-10, 12-17/Lk 14:25-33PARISH FINANCES for the weekend ofOffertory .
