Tech TopicAvoid problems with runaway coils by following these instructions.WHEN YOU RECEIVE YOUR PALLET OF AUTO COIL PIPE –1. Read the label located on the black stretch wrap and confirm the correct size ofpipe has been received.2. Inspect the black outer wrap for any tears that may indicate pipe damage. If damage is present, note it on the Bill of Lading.3. Locate the supplied cutting tool taped to the outside of the silo.4. Carefully cut the black stretch wrap using the supplied cutting tool, beginning at thetop of the silo. Be careful not to cut the clear stretch wrap around the individual coils.5. Cut enough of the black outer stretch wrap to expose the number of coils needed.6. Remove the needed coils.7. Fold loose black stretch wrap over remaining coils on pallet until needed.WHEN HANDLING INDIVIDUAL COILS –1. Do not remove the clear stretch wrap as it maintains the coil integrity of individualcoils.2. Unroll the coil by pulling the pipe end from the inside center of the coil, leaving theclear outer stretch wrap in place.3. If unrolling by hand, unroll pipe in the direction the ID pipe end is pointing.4. If using uncoiling equipment, spools or cages, modification of the equipment maybe necessary to allow for uncoiling from the center of the coil rather than the OD.5. Return any unused pipe to the ID of the coil by tucking pipe back into the clearstretch wrap for storage.NEWPocket Air Check Portable Gas DetectorMemphis Flex Tuff 2 GlovesPortable, battery operated (not included), solid-state instrumentused in applications requiring detection of combustible gas. What’s Happening in the IndustryJohn Ives Retires from Smith PumpsA lot has changed in the last 47 years. Walt Smith, President ofSmith Pumps, shared a few of these gems at a retirement celebration for John Ives, who began working at Smith Pumps in 1970. Richard Nixon was President of the United States The cost of gas was 36 cents per gallon A postage stamp was 6 cents And an 8-track stereo player was 39I mean, what’s an 8-track player? Just kidding.John was hired back then as a “trainee in assembly” for 2.50/hour. He learned quickly, and became the Assistant Supervisor ofthe Assembly Department, then Supervisor. He was later offered a position in the office to assist with Customer Service. After that, began a rigid schedule of travelling tovarious events around the country. In time, John was promoted tothe position of Sales Manager where he wore many hats, all withhis usual organization and attention to detail.John was also instrumental in the birth of the Full Circle swivel inthe 1990’s. Those SMAC-series hose reel swivels were the first oftheir kind to be listed with Underwriters Laboratories. Today, FullCircle continues to provide useful and highly engineered productsthat are innovative, user-friendly, maintenance-free, and performance based.John has been an invaluable source of knowledge and experience, not only at Smith Pumps and Full Circle, but in the Propane Industry as a whole. He has provided countless hours of training to industry members over the years, including to many of us at TeecoProducts. His quick wit and warm personality will be missed atthe many industry events where he’s been a regular for decades.Needless to say, John has worked hard over the years, and heloved what he did. He’s now enjoying his well-earned retirementand spending lots of time with his grandkids.John, we wish you all the best!Bob Bailey, President of Teeco Products, presents John Ives with a Meter HeadClock to celebrate his retirement and hislongstanding relationship with Teeco.Walt Smith, John Ives & Bob BaileyJohn dancing with his wife, Brenda, athis retirement celebrationDon’t ask.Above are a few photos from John’s retirement celebration.Below is one from back in the day.Walt Smith and John Ives at one of the many tradeshowsthey’ve attended togetherTo learn more about Smith Pumps and Full Circle Swivels, please contact Teeco or visit: www.smithpumps.com and www.fullcircleswivels.comPage 7
