KEYNOTE SPEAKERTHURSDAY, JUNE 25TH 8:30am – 9:30amLocation: Dallas D, HThe Alliance – Managing Talent in the Networked AgeBEN CASNOCHABest-Selling Author, Technology EntrepreneurBen Casnocha (Ben Kas-no-ka) is an award-winningentrepreneur and author from Silicon Valley. He is co-author, withLinkedin founder/chairman Reid Hoffman, of the #1 New YorkTimes best-selling book The Start-Up of You: Adapt to the Future,Invest in Yourself, and Transform Your Career. Most recently, Ben coauthored The Alliance: Managing Talent in the Networked Age, a highlyanticipated book based on his article in Harvard Business Review entitledTours of Duty: The New Employer-Employee Compact. Ben has separately written for Newsweek, the American Enterprise Institute, NPR’s Marketplace and the U.S. State Department. In addition to his writing, Ben is a technology entrepreneur. He founded Comcate, Inc., a leadinge-government software company, at age 14. He wrote a book about his experience titled MyStart-Up Life. PoliticsOnline named him one of the “25 most influential people in the world ofinternet and politics.” He also incubates and advises internet entrepreneurs at Wasabi Ventures.Businessweek named Ben “one of America’s top young entrepreneurs.” And dozens of outletshave covered his work including CNN, Charlie Rose, and The Economist.Today’s managers face a dilemma: organizations nolonger offer lifetime employment, but leaders can’tbuild lasting, innovative businesses when everyone actslike a free agent. In essence, the employee – employerrelationship is broken. Based on his latest book, TheAlliance, Ben’s keynote will address this problem andoffer solutions. He proposes that organizations viewemployees as allies on a “Tour of Duty”. The alliance isa two-way relationship that lets company and employeework together toward common goals, even when someof their interests differ. The paradox is that recognizing anemployee’s independence allows a company to rebuildthe loyalty and trust that’s been missing from today’semployment relationship. This activity has been approved for 1 general recertification credit hour through theHR Certification Institute.
