CHAPTER ONEINTRODUCTIONThis handbook provides you with the necessary information you need to request and obtain a temporary service.Snohomish County Public Utility District #1(PUD) defines a temporary service as “a meansof supplying electricity to your constructionsite for a maximum of 18 months.” Typically, atemporary service is installed to provide powerfor the construction phase of your projectwhile provisions are being made for your permanent power system.Several items need to be completed before wecan energize your temporary service. They are: Call the PUD office closest to your location and ask to speak to an Area Designerto determine whether or not you have overhead or underground service available; Install your service equipment; Obtain a state or city electrical inspectionand approval of your service equipment; Obtain a service inspection approval fromPUD; Pay fees. The remainder of this brochure will assist youwith this process. If you have any questions, please call or visit your nearest PUD office (seeinside front cover) for information on permanent services, or check our website at snopud.com and search on “electrical service requirements.”INSPECTIONS AND CODESThis handbook should be used as a guide. Itdoes not cover all possible federal, state, orlocal requirements. It is your responsibilityto ensure that your project complies with themost recent issue of the National Electric Code(NEC) and any other federal, state, or localcodes that may apply.METER SOCKET REQUIREMENTSYou are required to provide a meter socketwith the following specifications:w Rated 120/240 voltsw Single-phasew Minimum rating of 125 ampsw Maximum rating of 200 ampsw Four jawsw UL-approved (Underwriters Laboratory)The PUD will supply a meter ring.If you would like a service other than 200amps 120/240 volt single-phase, please contact your PUD Area Designer prior to beginning construction.Snohomish County PUD Electric Service Handbook Temporary Service Rev. CHAPTER TWOTEMPORARY OVERHEADSERVICE The process and cost of obtaining your temporary overhead service can vary, depending uponthe location of our existing facilities. The leastcomplicated and cheapest way a service can beinstalled is if a transformer is located on a pole(see figure 3-3) on or along your property. METER LOCATIONYour temporary meter post should be locatedon your property within 150 feet of the PUDpower pole that will serve you and should belocated within 15 feet of the road or driveway. If the service line will pass throughtrees or brush, a 5-ft. path must becleared to allow our service personnelto run the line and allow the lines tohang without contacting trees or limbs.Maintaining this clear path is your responsibility. The service line path should avoid areas where vehicular traffic will occur, unless your temporary service postheight is increased to provide adequateclearance. (See figure 3-3 for clearancerequirements.)CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTSPlease consider the following: The path that the service line will takeshould not cross property belonging toother individuals.Figure 3-3 shows the clearance requirementsfor the types of terrain most commonly encountered.FIGURE 3-3Service DropPUDFacilitiesPoint ofattachmentMin.24 feetState Highways2—Min.18 feetCity, County roadPrivate roadCommercial drivewaysTruck traffic areasMin. 15-1/2 feet Min. 10 feetResidentialdrivewayFinal GradePorch / DeckWorking PlatformSnohomish County PUD Electric Service Handbook Temporary Service Rev. Thecustomer shall backfill the entire temporaryservice excavation within 24 hours after thePUD has energized and shaded the serviceconductors.Figure 4-4 illustrates the recommended temporary underground service installation. Pleasenote the dimensions shown. Deviations to thisrecommended standard could result in a delayin receiving your service and/or your servicebeing denied.Items owned and installed by the customer:1. 4" x 4" x 10' continuous single structure2. 2" x 4" bracing (post should be bracedfrom two directions)3.
