Today’s service-enabling, high-bandwidth networks demand provisioning, monitoring, fault isolation,trouble- shooting and remote management tools that have long been deemed crucial in traditional,business-class WAN transport services. While Carrier Ethernet is being increasingly used as the unifyingdelivery service, increased geographic reach is far more likely to depend on multiple carriers andtechnologies. Multiple streams of concur- rent voice, video, data and wireless services are required tobe delivered over different transport networks.Though Carrier Ethernet is an excellent medium for service convergence and provides an effectivefoundation for optimizing total cost of ownership, effective management across the service deliverylifecycle can get un- wieldy, if unchecked.Telco Systems’ T-Marc Ethernet Demarcation and Extension (EDE) products are intelligent and remotelymanaged, multi-port customer-premises equipment (CPE) that deliver managed converged servicesover virtual Ethernet, MPLS/VPLS and IP access networks. T-Marc allows service providers to delivermultiple services on separate customer interfaces, including multiple services over a single customerinterface, thereby facilitating different business models.Network Edge: Purpose-built CarrierEthernet solutionsT-Marc is a purpose-built Ethernet demarcation systemthat maps into existing standards-based networks. Usingmulti-layer networking, flexible traffic management andengineering, and an embedded OAM, test and assuranceframework, the T-Marc product line provides a secure, managed, high-performance solution QoS-enabledEthernet service delivery.Telco Systems’ AccessNetworking Realizing the potential of Ethernet – its simplicity, flexibilityand affordability – Telco Systems embarked on a missionto extend Ethernet with Carrier-enablingattributes. Using attributes such as transparentOperations, Administration and Maintenance (OAM) andremote system management, Telco Systems pioneeredremotely managed carrier-grade Ethernet Access. These solutions offer service providers the ability forproactive fault management by performing remotetroubleshooting, loopbacks, statistics collection forperformance management. As networks evolve to provide converge service deliveryover multiple transport technologies, they drive the needfor highly- intelligent Ethernet demarcation and accesssystems. Not only do these systems need to run OAM forservice assurance by performing loopbacks, performancemanagement statistics collection, and verify the remotehealth and status, but they are also required to beservice- aware: manage customer traffic flows to enabledifferentbusiness/franchise models, and operate in differentmarkets.Service delivery lifecycle management is a key elementin reducing Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). All operationfrom initial circuit turn-up and provisioning, serviceadministration and qualification, performance assuranceand management, and application delivery must beconsolidated in a managed offering. For example, oncenetwork elements have been provisioned as part ofservice creation, it is essential that such services beverified during service turn-up without a need for externaltest heads. Demarcation systems function as testelements during the service turn-up phase.Once a service is validated, the correspondingdemarcation system must change operational modes toprovide managed, multi-service networking, along withintegrated performance monitoring. These key elements form the basis and provide afoundation for Telco Systems’ T-Marc 3x0 EDE productfamily. Similar to H-VPLS, an IP-based CPE provides an“abstract” access networking model, allowing serviceproviders to leverage compelling networking, troubleshooting, and assurance services, independentof the underlying transport technology. This model isextremely important to carriers that prefer to providemanaged IP services that allow customers to outsourcetheir networking operations, and thereby focus on theircore business.AccessIP to provide scalable, carrier-class service deliveryof converged IP services. In addition to SNMP-based managed objects,AccessManagement also provides integrated supportfor XML/XSL-based interfaces and schemas to map intoNETCONF-based management paradigms.Using direct (IP-based) and proxy access models,AccessManagement provides consistent FCAPSmanagement across transport, network and servicelayers. It serves as the foundation to map into carriers’operational procedures to facilitate initial circuit turn-upand provisioning, service administration and qualification, performance assurance and management, andapplication delivery.Residing that the edge of the carrier’s network – betweencarrier’s and customer’s networks – T-Marc 3x0 useTELCO SYSTEMSTo learn more, visit Telco Systems at http://www.telco.com

SummaryNetworking frameworks, rich protocol suites andmanaged solutions are key enablers that allow vendorsolutions to address carrier requirements. However, it isextremely critical that vendor solutions transparently mapinto carrier networks, adapt as those networks evolve, and flexibly interface into existing process workflow andbusiness operations.Telco Systems believes that any compelling networkingsolution must be capable of mapping into existing carrierworkflow processes and business operations. Using apolicy- enabled networking framework, T-Marc 3x0 andother Telco Systems’ products provide such a capabilityby: Adapting to multiple transport domains for transparentdeployment into existing networks. Being extensible to allow future transport options andprotocol suites. Supporting multi-layer OAM capability for managedand assured service delivery. Providing full service management for adaptation intoservice provider and OEM management use models.Telco Systems’ Carrier service-enabling AccessNetworkingframework provides a sound foundation to allow serviceproviders to not only address all of the abovementioned, but to also cope with business, regulatory, and politicalissues.
