Instruction reflects the working environments in which students will beemployed upon graduation. The general education courses complement the technicaleducation programs to enhance personal and professional growth.Certificates and AAS DegreesNorthwest Kansas Technical College offers technical education programs of study and confersthe Associate of Applied Science (AAS) Degree, Technical Certificates, and Certificates ofCompletion under the authority of the Kansas Board of Regents and the Higher LearningCommission.The AAS degree is intended for students who desire immediate employment upon graduationor plan to transfer to another institution of higher education. At Northwest Tech, the AASprogram includes a minimum of (15) credit hours of general education courses in addition to itstechnical program requirements for a total of (60) credits minimum; this degree typicallyrequires two years for completion.The AAS in Applied Technologies is a way for students to mesh together two programs of studyinto one degree plan. Students who wish to pursue this pathway should meet with theRegistrar to determine the course of study to complete this degree.A technical certificate will be issued to students satisfactorily completing a program of studyconsisting of more than 17 but less than 59 credit hours. Students working for a technicalcertificate must successfully complete the course requirements and program specificcompetencies with a 2.0 or higher GPA. Northwest Tech confers three types of technicalcertificates: Tech Cert A is for programs with 17-29 credit hours as approved by KBORTech Cert B is for programs with 30-45 credit hours as approved by KBORTech Cert C is for programs with 46-59 credit hours as approved by KBORA certificate of completion will be issued to students completing a program of 16 or less credithours with a 2.0 or higher GPA.[return to this section’s Table of Contents]

2022-2023 NWKTC CATALOG AND STUDENT HANDBOOKAuto Body (Automotive Collision & Repair)Description:The Auto Body (Automotive Collision & Repair) program is designed for the student to learnbasic concepts and skills during the first year. Examples of some of these skills are windshieldreplacement, MIG welding, minor metal straightening, basic refinishing, and minor electricalrepair. These basic skills are the foundation for the more advanced areas of the trade, whichthe second-year student will encounter. Some examples of these advanced areas are majorcollision, custom paint techniques, color matching, metal fabrications, basic wheel alignment,and advanced welding.The curriculum is directly related to trade standards and employment opportunities. As repairmethods change, the curriculum is continually updated to provide instruction on the safe andproper use of the latest tools, equipment, products, and procedures currently being used inthe industry. Instruction includes both shop and classroom situations with the emphasis onthe actual “hands-on” experiences. Applied shop instruction involves individualized live workon customer and students’ vehicles, shop projects, and demonstration mock-up tasks.Degree/Certificates awarded:AASTech Cert CAccreditation/Certification:Seeking NATEF Re-Certification during 2022-2023By meeting strict industry related standards, the Auto Body (Automotive Collision & Repair)program became certified by the National Automotive Technician Education Foundation(NATEF) in 1992. NATEF is a part of the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), which is theorganization that tests and certifies technicians in this trade.Program Learning Outcomes:Upon successful program completion, students are able to:1. Coursework includes use of technical service manuals; testingequipment; electronic ignition systems; rear, front and four-wheel drive; power steering;brakes; and electronics used in brakes, transmissions, steering systems, and a variety of othercomponents. Students will use the latest in infrared engine analyzers and computerizeddiagnostic devices.The auto tech shop is similar to repair bays in an automotive dealership. Only students who have started theprogram prior to Fall 2022 are eligible to complete this program.Description: Learn how to develop iOS and Web Apps in the rapidly expanding mobilemarket. The cloud and mobile environments are some of the fastest-growing technologyopportunities in modern history. The training received from our Cloud Computing & AppDevelopment program will enable you to create apps that are rich in data and run on allplatforms.Degree/Certificates awarded:AASTech Cert BAccreditation/Certification:Program Learning Outcomes:Upon successful completion of the program, the student will be able to: Design and build from scratch, apps for iOS using swift devices. Design and build apps for both iOS and Android using REACT Native Create front end websites from HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
