Asuccessful graduate of this program will be granted anAssociate in Applied Science degree. The curriculum willemphasize the development of technical competenciesand professional abilities needed for an enteringdealership service technician. The student will attendboth classroom lectures and laboratory sectionswhich will concentrate both on diagnosis and repairof equipment specific to the sponsoring dealer. Thisprogram will provide a unique opportunity for studentsto work at a dealership.semester/summer breaks. Subjects covered in theclassroom will be followed by related work experiencesat the dealership.The total degree program is completed in 21 months.Four semesters are spent in school and a minimum of 16weeks (640 hours) in the sponsoring dealership. Thestudent will be involved in a work experience duringStudents are required to obtain a sponsor from adealership. Students can request assistance in locating asponsoring dealer, and dealers can request assistance inlocating a student to sponsor.A major component of this curriculum is the sponsoringdealership. From the educational area, we understandwhat a powerful impact a successful work experience canhave on a student.Dealers are responsible for providing students withtraining related employment during the work experienceperiods. The dealership will provide the necessary toolswhile the student is enrolled in the program.1

PARTICIPANT RESPONSIBILITIESGoalThe goal of the Construction and Forestry Equipment Technicial Program is to develop successful, qualified, well-trainedservice technicians that will work in John Deere dealerships. The C & F Technician program is a partnership betweenSUNY Cobleskill, participating John Deere dealers, dealer sponsored students, and the John Deere Construction andForestry Company.SUNY CobleskillJohn Deere Dealer1. Maintain a current curriculum.1.Actively recruit potential students for theprogram.2.Interview and select students the dealership willsponsor.4. Provide equipment and tools not included in thestudent’s tool list or in donated equipment andtools.3.Provide an appropriate paid internship thatreinforces the student’s most recent classroominstruction.5. Maintain C&F Tech classes separately from othertechnical program classes based on a minimumenrollment of 10 students.4.Provide a tool set for the use of the studentduring the internship.5.Transfer ownership of the tools to the students atthe end of two years of work at the dealershipafter graduation.7. Send C&F Tech program information to allinterested candidates for the program.6.Provide a racf id for qualified second semesterstudents.8. Assess college readiness for all approveddealership sponsored candidates.7.Repay the tuition after two years of continuousemployment or per individual agreement forgraduates hired by the dealership.8.Provide use of the “student” tools to the hiredgraduates.9.Appoint an in-dealership coordinator to assist thecollege’s faculty in planning and monitoring thecooperative internship.2. Applicants with a strongacademic background have an advantage over thosewho have completed less rigorous high school programs.At Cobleskill, admission requirements vary among thecurricula.Early Admissions ProgramThe College admits high school students under its EarlyAdmissions program following completion of the junioryear.
