IntroductionIntroductionAs the SAT School Day testing supervisor orServices for Students with Disabilities (SSD)coordinator, you play a significant role in an eventthat affects many, including your students, yourschool, and the wider education community.Testing during the school day in a familiar, easilyaccessible environment allows the SAT SchoolDay to serve as part of an integrated approachto improving college and career readiness withinyour community.Furthermore, the SAT is now one of a verticallyaligned suite of assessments that reflect whatstudents are already learning in their classroomsand provide educators what they need to monitortheir students’ progress. Visit collegereadiness.collegeboard.org to learn more about the SATSuite of Assessments.IMPORTANT: Be sure to destroy any manuals youhave for SAT School Day that are for use in 2015.What Is Changing forthe Redesigned SATThe SAT you will administer in March or April2016 has been redesigned to focus on the skillsand knowledge that current research indicates areessential for career and college success. Here are a few basic changes to prepare for:1. The Math Test is divided into two portions: onethat permits calculator use, and one that does not.2. Students should be encouraged to give their bestanswer for every test question, since there is nopenalty for guessing.3. For standard time test-takers, the first break (afterthe Reading Test) will be ten minutes instead offive minutes.4. Students testing with extended time will alsoreceive additional breaks as noted later in thissection. Students will only receive extended timefor the subject areas for which they are approved(e.g., math only or writing only). Exception:Students approved for reading will continue toreceive extended time for the entire test.5. The Essay Test may or may not be included inyour school’s contract. (See the Contract Typesexplanation in the next column.)6. The online Attendance Roster has been enhancedto better assist you in making room assignments.Note that the SSD coordinator will continue to usethe NAR for a roster of students testing under hisor her supervision.ivTest FactsThe redesigned SAT is composted of threesections, which follow the same order in every testbook.Evidence-Based Reading and Writing: Includes aReading Test and a Writing and Language Test. Each test is composed of multiparagraph passagesand multiple-choice questions.
