JULY 2022KAABAGRAM4ASSISSTANT RABBANBrian Huffbjhuff62@gmail.comHIGH PRIEST & PROPHETNathan Stonendstone70@hotmail.comORIENTAL GUIDEWhat a great start to the year. Fish fry’s, Spaghetti dinner, Iowa Ceremonial, somegood Events and a lot of good fellowship. The parade season has officially kicked off.I look forward to getting out and as much as I can. Whether you are a new Shriner orone that has been there and done that. I say get out and do some parades it’s alwaysfun to see them smiling faces and there is nothing like the energy of the people watching. We will be starting a new public activity next Easter. We would like to do a breakfast with the Easter bunny and photo opportunity for the kids. We had the first fund raiser for the Easter andhad a silent auction and auctioned off a hand made Shriner bear that was donated by lady Jody Nunn (AKA.Mom) and raised 100. We will be having a few fund raisers to help get it going. Anyone that would like tobe part of it we will be needing help. Let me know if you would like to help. For those that did not know I am a firearms instructor. I was thinking of starting a Firearms clubSportsmen club not sure what to call it yet. It would promote firearms safety and many different disciplines(Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun,) as well as training and events such as target shoots and trap shooting and all thefriendly competition to go with it. (Yes, the ladies are going to be part of it. They can outshoot most of us anyhow). I Was thinking about kicking it off later in the year with a basic pistol and safety course. To see whatkind of participation there might be. Anyone interested please reach out to me and let me know.RegardsOriental GuideDavid Downs

JULY 2022KAABAGRAM6Iconic photo taken in Evansville that becameShriners' logo still resonates 50 years laterEvansville Courier & PressJune 11, 2020Bobbi Jo WrightEVANSVILLE – Bobbi Jo Wright, only five years old, needed assistance on a beautiful day, 50years ago at Mesker Park. Hadi Shriner Al Hortman picked her up and carried her in his arms andheld her crutches as his daughter, Laura, walked alongside.Wright never imagined that Hortman’s act of kindness would resonate so strongly that it wouldbe recognized as a worldwide symbol of Shriners Hospitals for Children. The iconic photo, taken bySunday Courier & Press photographer Randy Dieter, labeled it "Editorial Without Words."Because Wright was so young at the time, she only has a slight recollection of that day at MeskerPark.“I do have a very faint memory of Al picking me up,” said Wright, who has cerebral palsy. She said it’s amazing to think that she would become part of history.“It just seems unreal,” Wright said. “I knew it was me. It had to be me. After all these years, Iam humbled and amazed that I, unknowingly at the time, was blessed to be a part of such an iconicphoto which has become an inspiration to Shriners and Shriners Hospitals For Children patientsaround the world."Note from Shriners InternationalShriners International has been informed of a phishing email that targets Shrine Nobles with afalse Membership Suspension Notice. You have probably received your tickets from the Temple along witha very well written letter from our Ills Potentate. What a great way to raise money for Kaaba and hopefully introduce Masonry and the Shrine to prospectivemembers. With Parade season starting it’s a good time to start selling those tickets. As you know I ask all of the Clubs and Units to help with this fund raiser bydonating 50 or a prize worth the same amount or close to it. If you have beenthere in the past you have seen these prizes. Lady Shirley and I are alreadystarting to purchase items for the Silent Auction, Raffle, and Live Auction. I truly thank all of you for your participation in this event. I’ll be seeing you aroundat the parades and other summer activities. Have a great summer and hope tosee all of you on October 15 at the American Legion in Columbus Junction.Es Salaam AlekumBill Juhl PPx2

Be sure to bring your lady with.Until next time.Yours in the faith,Roger Kadel PPRecorderChuck Norris JokesContrary to popular belief, Chuck Norris, not the box jellyfish of northern Australia, is the most venomous creatureon earth. Within 3 minutes of being bitten, a human being experiences the following symptoms: fever, blurred vision, beard rash, tightness of the jeans, and the feeling of being repeatedly kicked through a car windshield.Chuck Norris is a former #1 draft pick in the NFL. He immediately retired when they told him in training camp thata round house kick to the face was not a legal method of tackling. Enraged, he cursed the franchise to never evermake the playoffs.
