123Spring 20 17The Pregnancy Care Centerhas offered help and hopeto those facing an unplannedpregnancy in the greaterRockford community for 34years.Signs of New Life & Deep GrowthAt our board retreat in January,we celebrated our new facilityand God’s amazing provision. We celebrated the mobile unitand growth in clients. Wecelebrated God’s goodness inproviding gifted leaders andneeded finances. And we askedGod, “What’s next?”We began praying. We startedasking the question, what wouldit look like to serve our clientsmore holistically? The truth is, we are seeing morepregnant clients than ever whoare homeless, living in their car, orcouch surfing from friend tofriend clients who havedropped out of school, are notworking, and are living offwhatever public aid they can.The fastest growing homelesspopulation in Rockford is thesingle, twenty-something momwith children. Moreover, did you know 62% ofteen moms drop out beforecompleting high school; less than2% complete college by age 30?Or that the median income of ateen mother is less than 26,000,and 80% will spend part of theirlife on welfare?Or that 80% of fathers do notmarry the mother, leaving themwith little or no support at all andtheir child without a father figurein their life?Or that 70% of these mothers willhave a recurring pregnancy withinthe next 24 months of the firstchild unless there is intervention, trapping them in a never-endingcycle of depending on welfare fromgeneration to generation? We have seen this to be true.4108 Morsay Drive, Rockford, IL 61107815.997.1200thepregnancycarecenter.orgOffice Hours: Monday-Thursday 8 am-4 pm; Friday 9 am – 1 pmAnd we believe God is leading usto do something about it.As a result, we announced at ourAnnual Banquet that we aredeveloping a brand new holisticcase management program tohelp clients create a plan tochange their lives.By assessing all areas of a client’slife, a case manager can help aclient capture a greater vision forher life, create a customized planwith attainable goals, and hold heraccountable- one accomplishmentat a time. The outcome will be women whocapture a vision for a different lifeand are empowered to overcomewhatever obstacles are in their wayso they can finish high school, pursue additional education, secure jobs, become independent, contributing members of theircommunity without relying ongovernment assistance. 41Lorem IpsumFrom theExecutive DirectorAs a child,I lovedwinter withits giantsnowflakesandlopsidedsnowmenand flyingsledsdownthrillinghills. As ateenager,I lovedsummerwithfreedom from school, hot sandybeaches and cool swimming pools. Asan adult, I have loved autumn with itscrisp cool air beckoning sweatshirtsand bonfires and trees ablaze withcolor. But lately, I have fallen in lovewith spring with life emergingeverywhere from what seemed frozenand dead. The four mama robinsbuilding nests on each side of myhouse bring me joy and dailyanticipation. Maybe I love springbecause it represents new growth, newlife, new hope for change. In her song,Every Season, Nicole Nordeman sings:Signs of New Life & Deeper Growth (cont.)(continued from page one)Their children will be raised in homes that are more stable, secure, andhealthier. They will have less repeat unplanned pregnancies and breakgenerational cycles of poverty that impact both the lives of the mothersand their children. To that end, we have hired our first full-timecase manager. God provided an amazingwoman, Brittney Fry, to fill this critical role.Brittney Fry is a Belvidere native who has workedfor the past four years at the Rosecrance WareCenter as a case manager in an adultoutpatient mental health program. She has been a volunteer for Rockford SexualAssault Counseling since August 2010, providingcrisis services to girls and women following asexual assault or dealing with the ongoingtrauma of a past assault. She also serves on theboard for Rockford Alliance Against SexualExploitation, providing services and support to women in our communitywho are sexually exploited and trafficked.Brittney is fun loving but passionate about empowering women, and sheworks tirelessly to improve the lives of individuals and our community as awhole. We can’t wait to see what God does in the days ahead!Servant LeadersThe Pregnancy Care Center of Rockford isfortunate to have a strong Board ofDirectors who deeply desires to make adifference. They have servants’ hearts andare actively engaged in the work of theministry, raising awareness and funds, aswell as providing strategic guidance andinsight. We are so thankful for theircommitment and leadership! And everything that’s new has bravely surfacedTeaching us to breatheWhat was frozen through is newly purposedTurning all things greenSo it is with You and how You make me newWith every season’s changeAnd so it will be as You are re-creating meSummer, autumn, winter, springWe often think of our clients as the onesneeding to experience new life, growthand hope for the future. And whilethat’s true, I have been reminded thisyear, that I, too, need to re-learn howto breathe, how to let God re-purposewhat has become frozen inside me. I,too, need to be made new each dayand each season. I cannot depend onlast season’s growth. I must be willing toundergo change if I invite and expectour clients to do the same.May God renew you this spring, makingthis a beautiful season of growth, life, and change for you and yours. With great joy,Pastor AlvinWhite (picturedwith his wife,LaToya) leadsEmpoweringWord ChristianCenter and isour newestboard member.Left to Right: Scott Richert, Tiffany Staman, Dr. Luke Herman,Michelle Bowman, Janine Schneider, Anita Countryman, and Lois Dixon.
