Inaugural Sustainability Report 2021NAVIGATINGOUR INAUGURALSUSTAINABILITY REPORTNeo’s inaugural Sustainability Report provided an opportunity toreflect on the past and imagine the future. Over the past fewyears alone, we have: Managed consistent improvement in Occupational Health &Safety (OHS), including the tracking and management of nearmisses and the limiting of lost time injuries. For example, Neo’sTotal Reportable Incident Rate (TRIR) compares very favorably toU.S. manufacturing industry data forour industry. Embraced the strengths of a diverse workforce, with a preference to hire management from local communities. In fact, 90% ofplant managers we hire are from local communities (nationaljurisdiction) in which we operate. Re-weighted the importance of Health, Environment, Safety andSustainability (HESS) initiativesin our annual strategic planning, with an objective tied to theimproved ESG outcomes and reporting; Implemented and prioritized employee continual training andlearning initiatives including harassment prevention, Foreign CorruptPractices Act (FCPA) compliance, and ethical conduct policies; Improved product labeling and customer communicationsregarding product safety, and; Focused on ethically sourced/conflict free tantalum and niobiumfeedstock and qualifying forthe Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI), with an eye towarddeveloping industry standards forrare earth material sourcing11

Inaugural Sustainability Report 2021Neo’s Sustainability VisionNeo’s Corporate Vision picturesa world that has substantiallydecarbonized major industrial andmobility sectors. Neo’s innovativeresearch and development historyhas been integral to unlocking manynew technologies that improve energyefficiency, reducing the intensity ofuse of fossil fuels and carbon intensiveworkstreams, and helping protect air andwater quality. Driving new technologiesforward and accelerating the adoption ofclimate-friendly products, is imperativefor us. The “How” we manufacture theseproducts and manage our business isequally important to the “What” ourproducts do. Neo seeks to displayleadership in the pursuit of responsiblesupply chains and excellence in materialscience. Through disciplined practices, policies and procedures, we can helpset the new standard for the criticalmaterials industry. To aid this effort, it is critical to have a strong foundationthrough ESG Reporting. Early in our journey, ESG is alreadytouching every aspect of our business, and we are implementingcontinuous improvement processes. We anticipate publiclyreporting every year for our stakeholders.12

Inaugural Sustainability Report 2021Continuous Improvement underlies our ESG13Our disclosure processis guided by a continuousimprovement method inspiredby Six Sigma quality control.CONTROLReporting Period and BoundariesFor our inaugural report, our primary emphasisis the calendar year 2021 reporting.Institutionalizing Our SustainabilityReporting and Continuous AdvancementIMPROVEDESIGNREPORTMEASUREThe recent several years will also providecontext for certain results that might be skewed bythe global pandemic during 2020 and 2021.For this first edition, report boundaries includeentities in which Neo has had a controlling majorityinterest prior to 2021. Environmental data isemphasized for our five largest plants.ANALYZEDuring 2021, Neo’s Working Group onSustainability convened 23 times from March throughDecember. In line with Neo’s robust corporategovernance practices, the Working Group onSustainability was supported by an administrativeprocess that developed agendas, meeting minutes, and progress tracking with the use of projectmanagement frameworks. Between official meetings,Panel members led individual workstreams incollaboration with colleagues across the geographiesandfunctions throughout Neo’s large bench oftalent. The updates of these workstreams werebrought to the Panel for information consolidation, effort coordination, duplication prevention, resourceallocation, and progress tracking.

Reporting and Disclosure MethodologyInaugural Sustainability Report 2021Primary Reporting StandardsFollowed for Our Inaugural ReportIdentifying Neo’s SustainabilityContext and Report Production MethodologySustainability Accounting Standards Board: SASBconnects businesses and investors on the financial impactsof sustainability. SASB Standards enable businesses aroundthe world to identify, manage, and communicate financiallymaterial sustainability information to investors. They areindustry-specific and are designed to be decision-usefulfor investors and cost-effective for companies. They aredeveloped using a process that is evidence based and marketinformed.Neo’s inaugural Sustainability Report production process began witha clear mandate by our Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer toform an internal working group that would deliver an ESG report on 2021.This internal working group became Neo’s Working Group on Sustainabilityand began developing the report’s production strategy. The first step wasto benchmark Neo against 20 other corporate issuers in terms of disclosuregranularity and standards deployed.United Nations Global Compact: In 2021, Neo became asignatory to the UN Global Compact. By incorporating the 10Principles of the UN Global Compact into strategies, policiesand procedures, and establishing a culture of integrity, Neo isnot only upholding its basic responsibilities to our planet andpeople, but also setting the stage for long-term success. The 10 Principles of the UN Global Compact arederived from: the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Labour Organization’s Declarationon Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work, the RioDeclaration on Environment and Development, and the UnitedNations Convention Against Corruption.United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals: TheSDGs are a collection of 17 interlinked global goals designedto be a “blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainablefuture for all.” The SDGs were established in 2015 by theUnited Nations General Assembly (UN-GA) and are intendedto be achieved by the year 2030. They are included in theUN-GA Resolution called the 2030 Agenda.Next, Neo’s Working Group on Sustainability recruited expert advicefrom external advisors to buttress our in-house knowledge base. Thisincluded educational material and training courses on ESG ReportingStandards and Frameworks. With the assistance of our external advisor,we then created a shortlist of relevant topics to be assessed for inclusionin our 2021 Sustainability Report. Relevant topics were those that mayreasonably be considered important for reflecting the organization’seconomic, environmental, and social impacts, or influencing the decisionsof stakeholders. All such topics potentially merit inclusion in Neo’s futuresustainability reporting. Neo applied a wide-ranging radar to identify allrelevant topics, based on standard disclosure guidance set by SASB, andUN SDG frameworks. This was informed by the use of a survey and a seriesof confidential one-on-one interviews of the Board HESS Committee’sDirector members and Neo’s senior management team.14
