Senior School EventsWelcome to Family Day!9.00 amEvery year ‘Family Day’ is met with great excitement by the community atScotch College. It is a day when boys compete for their respective houses inYear 9 to 12 and their interform classes in Year 7 and 8. The boys will becompeting for every position in every race, throw and jump as house and classpride are at stake.The sport of athletics takes its place on the Main Oval and will see featureevents such as the Scotch Flyer and Quarter that have made their mark in recentyears at the College. This year Discus will be introduced in Year 7 through to 12as it has become an official APS Athletics event. Family day is an opportunityfor our community to come together and celebrates this competition, rich inhistory and interest. It is a day that involves great effort on and off the field andwe thank all those for contributing to the magnificent atmosphere that has beencreated. May the best house win!Family Day Memorial Walk - Memorial Hall9.00 am - 3.30 pmThe ‘Family Day Memorial Hall Walk’ is part of the school’s commemoration ofWorld War I, and comprises displays and activities relating to the service of OldScotch Collegians. Posters, photographs, medals, wartime footage and letters areon display, while computer stations allow visitors to look up war records or tolisten to readings from wartime letters. There are ceramic poppies made byJunior School boys, a large wreath commemorating our 226 war dead and arecently restoredbust of Sir John Monash. Entry to the Walk is possible from the Hall’s northernand western doors and is free of charge. Anyone with questions or informationfor the Archives should either visit or contact the Archivist, Paul Mishura.Senior School Art Exhibition9.00 am - 4.00 pmOpen all day in the Lithgow Centre Atrium. This exhibition includes a diverseand exceptional catalogue of the Senior School’s emerging artists and shouldnot be missed!Design and Technology Exhibition9.00 am - 4.00 pmOpen all day in the David Yu Family Foyer in the James Forbes Academy.Come and see why Scotch boys’ award-winning work in this area has attractedso much attention in recent years.

Initiated by Ross Campbell, Teacherin Charge of Pipes and Drums (1976-2007). It adds a wonderful Scottish flavourto the day.The Ewen Macdonald 800m Handicap11.30 amConducted by the Old Scotch Athletics Club, and open to its members and anyOld Scotch Collegian, this race has been held annually since 1975 with theexception of a washout in 1992. Now named in memory of Ewen Macdonald, aScotch and Old Scotch athlete, this race is a real test for competitors of a varietyof ages.Scotch Quarter (400m)12.45 pmThis is a testing event, challenging our boys both mentally and physically. The boysrun a handicapped 400 metres, with much interest always on the athlete running offscratch and their ability to chase the pack. It is always a high standard race andattracts our best 400 metres and middle distance runners. The final straight is wherethe action really heats up.Participants: Lawson Argent, Ben Beischer, Seb Brassington, Joaquin Cross,Sean Elliot, Howie Japp, Finn Maginness, Charlie Loveridge,Tom Loveridge, Chris Papapetrou, Jack Polkinghorne,Charlie Schilling

Senior School EventsScotch Flyer (100m)12.55 pmThe highlight of the athletics program since its inception by former staff memberDon Davenport in the 1990s, this 100m invitational handicapped sprint sees thebest Scotch runners take on each other in an electric atmosphere, with the tracklined on both sides by their schoolmates. Theodore Panagacos won it in 1996and felt so inspired by the win, he decided that he would donate a trophy forfuture winners of the race. It was at this point that the race took on the title ofthe ‘Scotch Flyer’. Close finishes are typical, making it an event not to be missed.Participants: Luke Adams, Luke Clifford, Darcy Edgerton, Irfan Hrelja,Hamish Johnston, Jack McCorkell, Blake McLeish,Tate McLeish,Tom Polkinghorne, Thomas Sennitt,Josh Rubins, Harry WaltonWater Polo1.20 pm-2.05 pmMembers of the Water Polo 1sts take on past Scotch Water Polo playersin this annual event. The game is an energetic sport which emphasises swimmingability and ball skill over toughness. It is the most physically demanding of all teamgames, requiring top performers to cover up to 1.5 kilometres in the pool during the32 minutes it takes to complete a game, with small breaks between quarters.
