DRAWING &LETTERINGA century of fine pen-making began in 1899, when theC. Howard Hunt Pen Company began manufacturingand distributing steel pens. In those days, drawing andlettering was laborious and time consuming due to theonly available tools—small brushes and fine pens. Lookingfor a method to improve the speed of this work, Speedball joined forces with master letterers Ross F. George andWilliam Hugh Gordon in 1913 to contrive and perfect a nibwith a reservoir. It was nicknamed “Speedball” because ofthe efficiency of the pen, which cut working time in half.Since that time, the Speedball name has becomesynonymous with high-quality lettering pens.
