Gen2 PREMIER

31The Gen2 PREMIER system combines21st century technology and materials withmodern objectives including energy efficiency, environmental responsibility, passengersafety and comfort, increased usable space,62streamlined architectural profiles and timesaving installation. Gen2 PREMIER incorporatesthe latest major breakthrough in elevatoringtechnology—flexible, polyurethane-coated steel4belts replace the conventional steel cables.Combined with the equally innovative concept5of smaller, energy saving machines, and thelow noise controller and drive, this radicalinnovation produces a state of the art elevatorsystem. The Gen2 PREMIER system represents morethan a collection of new components. It isan imaginative re-invention of the most basicassumptions governing vertical transportation. The result is a completely revolutionarysystem—one that takes the elevator to itsnext level.Features1Compact, Energy Efficient Machine2Controller3Governor4Revolutionary Coated Steel Belts5Door Control System6Easy-access Emergency and Inspection PanelShown here is machine-on-beam configuration. Machine-on-rail configuration is used for higher duty ranges.

10 cmThe traditional cable wraps steel cords around aflexible core. The new flat belt wraps a flexible polyurethane skinaround steel cords which allows for a smaller sheave diameter Durable, Flexible BeltsOnly 3 mm thick and 30/60mmwide, the belts are more durableand flexible than the heavywoven steel cables that havebeen the industry standard forover a century, they are also 20percent lighter and last up to threetimes longer. Each belt actuallyincorporates more wires than aconventional cable—a total of588/1176 high tensile grade steelcords per belt. Yet their superiorflexibility allows the belts to bendaround smaller diameter sheaves.Additionally, Otis has developedPULSE , an electronic device thatcontinually monitors the status ofthe belt cords.A Compact MachineThe coated steel belts makepossible a machine that takes uponly 30 percent of the space of aconventional geared machine. The Gen2 PREMIER machine’scompact size enables Otisto position it at the top of thehoistway, thereby eliminating theneed for a machine room. Asmaller machine also means lessinertia, resulting in a dramaticreduction in the electrical currentrequired during acceleration. Anew generation disc brake makesthe machine more reliable. The belts’ polyurethane jacketprovides better traction thanconventional cable. Flat belts alsohave more surface area at thepoint of contact, which significantlyreduces wear on the sheave.Energy EfficientThe Gen2 PREMIER system standsas one of the most efficient—andthus cost-effective—elevatorsavailable today. The machine’sradial construction is as much as50 percent more efficient than aconventional geared system, and15 percent more efficient thanmachines with axial constructiondesigns. The system also featuresa ‘sleep mode’ for reduced powerconsumption. By reducing heatlosses, the synchronous motor withembedded permanent magnetsfurther enhances the machine’sability to use energy efficiently.

Safety FeaturesThe Gen2 PREMIER system’sadvanced safety features exceedthose required by even the moststringent international codes.Elevator doors reopen immediatelyif an invisible beam of light isinterrupted. If the car is stoppedbetween floors, evacuationdeterrents prevent passengers fromexiting. Hoistway access detectionprevents a car from moving ifa landing door is inadvertentlyopened. The Emergency andInspection Panel is positioned atthe landing for swift, easy access.LAMBDA LC entrance protectionOtis’ LAMBDA LC infrared curtaindoor protection system castsan invisible safety net of beamsacross the elevator entrance. Thedoor protection device scans withmore than 70 infrared beams persecond, in a response time of lessthan .1 second. If the systemdetects an obstruction, the doorsswiftly and smoothly open to avoidany contact.Environmentally ResponsibleIn addition to conserving energy, the Gen2 PREMIER system isenvironmentally responsible in arange of other ways. The needfor oil in the machine is eliminatedby the absence of a gearbox andthe use of permanently sealedbearings. Unlike steel cables, thebelts require no lubrication.Isolation pads between themachine beams and the hoistwaywall minimise building vibration, resulting in a quieter environment. The system also includes anelectromagnetic filter, whicheliminates interference with thebuilding’s other electrical systemsand complies with EN directives onElectro Magnetic Interference. The Gen2 PREMIER manufacturingfacility has received the ISO 14001certification for environmentallyresponsible production methods.Architectural BenefitsThe absence of a machineroom allows architects greaterdesign flexibility. Builders benefitfrom a controlled, streamlinedinstallation process and minimalinterference with other trades. For building owners, the Gen2PREMIER system translates intolower construction costs and asubstantial increase in rentablebuilding space.Compact, Simple, Logical making possible a more compact elevator system.

Speed – Time ProfileDoor Systems designed to meet varied passenger demandsController and DriveDesigned for groups of up tothree cars, the modular controllerincorporates a new generation ofprinted circuit boards and softwareto provide optimal response times. The digital closed-loop VF drive, with vector control technology, further increases efficiency andaccuracy, and a digital speedencoder ensures correct car speedand positioning. The result is asystem of exceptional reliability. When a hall button is pressed, Otis’Relative System Response (RSR)dispatcher instantaneously selectsthe most eligible car in the elevatorgroup to answer the call. In asplit-second, the RSR dispatcheranalyses a set of parameters basedon response time estimates andideal group control practices. Bymaximising system performance,RSR enables passengers to benefitfrom dramatically reduced waitingtimes.Door SystemsOtis offers different door systemsto configure to the building’spassenger demands. The car and landing doors aredriven by a direct current (DC)permanent magnet motor. A speedencoder mounted on the operatoraxis controls the doors’ openingand closing positions. This allowsaccurate and smooth operation, enhancing the system’s safeperformance. For higher traffic applications, aclosed-loop VF door operatoris available. It allows flexibilityin adjusting and setting dooroperation, meeting a variety ofdifferent operating profiles to suitthe building’s needs.Smooth and Quiet RideThe design features of the systemproduce a ride experience ofunsurpassed smoothness andquietness. The digital closed loopvector control ensures smoothacceleration and deceleration. Theflat belt eliminates the vibrationcaused by wound cables andthe sheave has been speciallymounted to minimise vibration. The polyurethane coated belt alsoeliminates the metal to metal effectof conventional cables against thesheave and the rubber paddingisolates the car platform from theframe.Emergency and Inspection PanelThe Gen2 PREMIER system’scompact, vandal-resistantEmergency and Inspection Panelis easily accessed by authorizedpersonnel. Located at the landing, one panel contains all the functionsneeded for trained technicians tocontrol and maintain the elevator—simply and quickly.Emergency and Inspection Panel
