Our first festival was held in Mayof 2006, two years after the incorporation of The Friends of Nathaniel Boileau Farmstead, Inc., in 2004. Mark your calendars! These festivals have been held annually as part of the mission of the Friends of Boileau to provide the community witheducational activities on early American history. A second goal is the preservation of the farmstead, one of the few remaining inUpper Moreland Township and the only one owned by the Township. The cleanup of the farmhouse was begun in early Februaryand we expect it to be open for tours and public inspection during the afternoon. The hallmark of the earliest festivals was sheepherding, which we hope to feature again this year. We have watched some ofthe sheepdogs reach retirement, while new puppies were learning the ropes. Some years the children have gotten to herd thesheep and ducks, and they learn that it is not as simple as it looks.Though plans are still being made, we are planning on the return of many of our interpreters and re-enactors. Their offeringsinclude Colonial arts and crafts such as open fire cooking, spinning and weaving, blacksmithing, wood working, andglassblowing. We can also expect the return of our military re-enactors, as well as the puppet show, pony rides, face painting, and live music. Oh, and don’t forget the free hotdogs, soft drinks and balloons!Friends of Boileau is seeking active board members in all phases of our activities. Come to our next meeting! We meet on thesecond Wednesday of every month, at 7:00pm, at 117 Park Ave., Willow Grove, PA 19090 in the Upper Moreland HistoricalAssociation Room in the basement of the Township Building. The organization performingthis work will be the Fairmount Park Conservancy. Their expertise in historic preservation will give the group and the townshipthe tools to prioritize the work on the site will help us to fund essential projects to improve the farmstead for future use.Fall Into Your Park CleanupThanks to the National Environmental Education Foundation’s Every Day Events grant we received last year, the cleanuphelped improve the farmstead grounds. A dozen volunteers came out to weed and mulch beds of plantings in front of theFarmhouse and remove invasive growth from the barnyard stone wall and pen area near the Barn. 623UPPER MORELAND TOWNSHIP OFFICE OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENTU P P E R M O R E L A N D H I S T O R I C A L A S S O C I AT I O NCelebrating our 20th Anniversary!e prepared for emergencies and major events in our community! As a resident of Upper Moreland, you can be notified of emergencies, severe weather, crime alerts, traffic problems, and disasters inour Township, as well as throughout Montgomery County. “ReadyMontco” is a free alerting systemoffered by the Montgomery County Department of Public Safety. It allows subscribers to be notifiedand to be kept informed of any emergency or event that might affect you.B1) All it takes is 10 minutes to create a profile in order to be sent all the important information youwant and need to know. Your profile allows you to select how, when, and where you are notified.Simply go to www.readymontco.org to create your account and choose your alert settings (youcan later change them at any time). This is a great tool to help keep you and those important to you safe. If you subscribeto “Nixle” emergency alerts, also be sure to also register at www.readymontco.org.2) It’s almost spring, with summer coming soon: at that means summer storm season. As we’ve seen in the news, tornadosare out there too. Did you know that the biggest storm related risk here in Upper Moreland is flooding? Here are a few tipsto help keep us all safe during this season and its storms:A) If a roadway seems flooded, it probably is. Just a little water rushing over a roadway can be dangerous. If you see awater covered road, turn around, don’t drown! The road will eventually open back up. Just be patient. Wherever you’regoing isn’t worth risking your safety or the safety of our first responders. Also, know two ways to wherever it is you’retrying to go.B)During a weather emergency, communicating with your family might be difficult. Have a family emergencycommunications plan. Pick a place where everyone can meet. Make sure your cell phones are charged and thatsomeone has a charger.C)Bring in outdoor furniture and anything else that isn’t tied down to prevent damage and injuries.D) Build an emergency kit for your family, and don’t forget about the pets! Your kit should include:-Water for 3 days (about a gallon a day for each person).Non-perishable food for 3 days.Batteries, lots of them.A hand crank or battery operated radio.Flashlights or battery operated lanterns. LED are among the best.A first-aid kit.A can opener.Wet towelettes, garbage bags, and plastic ties for personal sanitation. You can also fill your bath tub and use that water to flush your toilet ifwater service is disrupted.- Cell phone and a charger.- Pet food and items for them.- Games and entertainment for the kids. The internet might be out for awhile!E)You may have to evacuate quickly. Know how to get out of your area and where you will stay. If you’re told to evacuate, evacuate!F)Generators are a great idea to get through a power outage or a disaster, but don’t ever use generators in garages, basements, or other inside areas. Carbon Monoxide can form, which is colorless, odorless, and very dangerous.G) If you hear the weather service issue a “Watch,” then conditions are right for severe weather, and it could happen. If a“Warning” is issued, then severe weather is going to occur, and you should find a safe place to stay.If you’d like more information, please go to www.ready.gov, email the Upper Moreland Emergency ManagementCoordinator at bnewhall@uppermoreland.org or call Upper Moreland at 215-659-3100.You are cordially invited to attend ourANNUAL DINNERWednesday, April 27, 2016Cash Bar at 6:30pm with Dinner at 7:00pmWilliamson Restaurant at Easton and Blair Mill Roads in Horsham 27.00 per personReservation and check must be received by Friday, April 15, 2016PROGRAM: THE BUCKS COUNTY COUNTRY GENTLEMEN BARBERSHOP CHORUSBased in Doylestown, this chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Societyhas performed their unique style in the area since 1975.UMHA ANNUAL DINNER RESERVATIONPLEASE PRINT CLEARLY ALL ENTRIES!!I / We plan to attend the dinner.
