New Jersey at 7:00 p.m. onSeptember 21, 2020.Township Clerk Brunt called the meeting to order and read the following notice:The Notice Requirements provided for in the Open Public Meetings Act have been satisfied.Notice of this meeting was properly given by transmission to The Star Ledger, The Independentand Two River Times and by posting at the Middletown Township Municipal Building and filingwith the Township Clerk all on January 9, 2020.Roll Call Vote: Ayes:Absent:Hibell, Fiore, Settembrino, Snell, Mayor PerryNoneAlso present were Township Administrator Anthony Mercantante, Township Attorney BrianNelson and Township Clerk Heidi Brunt.PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCETownship Clerk led the assembly in the Pledge of Allegiance.Township Clerk Brunt requested a moment of silence to honor the troops serving worldwidedefending our freedom and way of life.CERTIFICATE OF APPRECIATOIN/PROCLAMATIONProclamation Celebrating the 110th Anniversary of New Jersey Blind Citizens AssocationStacey Stefanski addressed the audience and commented on the New Jersey Blind Citizen’sAssociations 110th Anniversary and their sacrifices during Covid 19. A campaign was started inthe beginning of the year to raise 110,000WHEREAS: The New Jersey Blind Men’s Club was established in 1910 by a group offorward- thinking men from Hoboken to help provide support for the blindto lead happy and productive lives and promote acceptance by the public forthe blind and visually impaired; andWHEREAS: In 1930, Camp Happiness, a free summer camp vacation program for blindadults, opened as a waterfront facility on the Sandy Hook Bay in MonmouthCounty. The camp allowed blind New Jerseyans to venture out on their own in asafe environment and learn the basics of mobility and independent living; and1

Today, theWobser Day Camp, named in honor of the day program’s founder, HelenWobser, is the organization’s primary focus. They offer creative activities suchas art, crocheting, wellness programs and peer support groups, to promotecamaraderie and enrich the lives of blind and visually impaired individuals; andWHEREAS: Now known as the New Jersey Blind Citizens Association (NJBCA), theorganization, located in Leonardo, continues to serve the blind of New Jerseythanks to community support and donations; andWHEREAS: This year NJBCA is celebrating 110 years of service to the blind, visuallyimpaired and those with deteriorating vision and they look forward tocontinuing to fosteran atmosphere of confidence, empowerment and community. Now,THEREFORE: Be it proclaimed that I, Mayor Tony Perry and the Middletown TownshipCommittee, join in the celebration of the 110th Anniversary of NJBCA andencourage the community to support this organization through its anniversarycampaign, especially during the month of October which is Blindness AwarenessMonth. Congresschanged the name to Veterans Day in 1954 to expand the significance of thecommemoration so that a grateful nation might pay homage to the veterans of allwars who have contributed so much to the preservation of the nation; andWHEREAS: Middletown Township and Middletown VFW Post 2179 will honor the sacrificeand valor of our brave servicemen and women with a Veterans Day Parade onSunday, November 8th; andWHEREAS: We, as citizens of a grateful nation, are thankful for the opportunity to recognizeour distinguished veterans whose service has allowed our nation to prosper andlet us live in freedom. We pay special tribute to the valiant guardians of ourfreedom who remain listed as Missing in Action, and we offer support to theloving families who hope for their safe return; andWHEREAS: This year we celebrate the 63rd anniversary of the Veterans Day Parade. Thetheme of the parade is “Honoring the Men and Women Who Are Deployed,” andon behalf of all Middletown residents, we will use this milestone to rededicateourselves to honoring all the veterans who have served our great nation.
