We have spent the month ofSeptember gathering information, reviewingdata and planning for Intervention.Intervention is a word that you will hearthroughout the year. Intervention might meanremediation for those in need of some secondchance learning or it might mean enrichmentfor those students who need a challenge. Indesigning the Master Schedule this year, Icreated blocks of time when a particulargrade level will have a designated block of“Intervention Time”. Our Intervention Teamwill be comprised of many individuals in thisschool. It truly takes a village. Our team willinclude the following individuals:embmeRoTD a te s Mrs. SpackOur school-wide goal is help all studentssucceed no matter what. This means that wewant to raise the bar and support the studentswho need extra help and more opportunitiesto learn, while ensuring that our brighteststudents are challenged and enriched. Withthe implementation of the new JourneysReading materials and the new mathprograms over the past two years, and withthe adoption of the Common Core Standardsfor learning, we are raising the bar for allstudents. As part of the team, you can helpby making sure that your children are readingeach night for 15 minutes and practicingthose basic math facts for 5/10 minutes anight.Research tells us that when youincrease the volume of reading material, youimprove comprehension.Increased mathrigor is attained when students have masteryof basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts. We know students areinvolved in many activities outside of school, but success in school takes practice and time.Thank you for your help with our schoolinitiative. We want allstudents atEdgewoodto be thevery bestthey can be!Pretzel DayRai e for Reading - bills6pm - Book Fair FAMILY NIGHTFriday, October 12thMarket Day Orders DueTuesday, October 16th7:00pm - PTO MeetingWednesday, October 17thPICTURE DAYThursday, October 18thPretzel DayMarket Day Order DeliveryMonday, October 22ndRED RIBBON WEEK beginsThursday, October 25th4:00pm - Family Fun Night atShady Brook FarmFriday, October 26thTHE PAW PRINT DEADLINEthepawprint@me.comWednesday, October 31st2:00pm - Halloween Parade2:45pm - Halloween Parties

The Clas sifiedsWe are known as “WednesdayMorning Moms (Helpers)”. EveryWednesday morning, we come to school (usually between 9 am and 9:30) and wework on little projects that teachers have asked us to do for them. On any givenday we might sort book orders, make banners, take down bulletin boards, mountstudents’ work, use the die cut machine, sharpen pencils, etc. Doing these jobsfor the teachers gives them more time and energy to focus on lesson planningand other things that we hope benefit our children! This is a flexible volunteerjob, because you can choose to come when it suits you – some might just comefor 1 hour every Wednesday, others might just come a couple of Wednesdaysper month. We usually finish the work between 11am and 12 noon. This volunteerjob is fun because it’s flexible, there are a real variety of tasks to do eachweek, and, it gives you a chance to chat with other parents, and a chance to geta glimpse of children with their classes! Feel free to join us. You can usuallyfind us at a table in the “glass corridor” (in front of the phone booth); or, wewill be in the “Paper Room” (just ask someone where that is). If you have anyquestions, please call either one of us. Thanks for volunteering to help.Laura Buchinsky & Kristin Tyler - 215-321-5693Race for Education FundraiserOur Race For Education is off to a great start!Thank you to everyone whocontributed stamps or a monetary donation for the stamps.
